Hi Friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to celebrate with friends and family! We had a great Thanksgiving and I enjoyed way too many sweets and am looking forward to getting back on track this week. It was a busy week getting ready for the holiday, but I did get in several runs. This is going to be a long recap, but a good one! Here’s what happened in my life last week. more “Thanksgiving Week”
Yesterday was a really special day! It was full of family, food, and fun. I had all of my family at my house, and we had a feast!
My day started early. I woke up at 7 am to set out the hot rolls so they could rise.
I debated on going back to bed, but instead finished all the last minute cleaning – mopping the floors, setting the tables, things like that. We had to set up a table in the living room so we would have enough room for everyone.
After doing all of that, I sat down for a minute and thought about going for a run. I knew it was supposed to rain later in the day and once I ate I probably wouldn’t want to go. I sat there for probably 10 minutes watching out the window deciding if I wanted to go or not. I was feeling better than I did on Wednesday, and I wasn’t wheezing as bad, so I put on my shoes and out the door I went. It was surprisingly warm, but it was wet.
Nothing was falling when I started, but about halfway in, it started raining. I kept going, and got soaked! But, that was okay, because I have always wanted to run in the rain and it was fun. I got in 3 miles in the rain!
After my run, I cleaned up and turned on the parade. My cousin’s group wasn’t on until the very end, but I watched the whole thing. I wanted to see if I could see any of our family in the crowd. Around 11, I started cooking the hot rolls and ham. Everyone started showing up around 11:45. My parents, Jeremy’s dad, my grandparents, and my sister and her boyfriend came. We also had my aunt, uncle, and my cousins from Texas.
Once everyone arrived, my mom and aunt helped me finish up everything in the kitchen, and we finally got to eat!
I was starving by the time we ate. I didn’t eat anything before or after my run because I knew I would have a huge meal.
We had sooooo much food!
My aunt brought a honey ham, and we had a smoked ham.
She also brought brussels sprouts. My mom brought sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, and some dessert. And, my grandma brought turkey, dressing, and cranberry sauce.
Even though we had so much food, I didn’t overeat. I was not miserable when I got done. I was really tired and wanted to take a nap! I tried a little bit of most of the food. My favorite was and always is the sweet potato casserole! My mom makes it every year and I love it! I also love the hot rolls. I could seriously eat a dozen of them, but I didn’t.
I ate some honey ham and some turkey. I had corn casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, and a hot roll. I think I could have eaten another plate full, but I tried to have some self control!
And then we had dessert. Oh my, it was so good! My mom brought mini cheesecakes.
We also had pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cherry pie, peach pie, and a cranberry fruit salad. I had a bite of each of the pies, seriously, just one bite! I didn’t try the cheesecakes, but my mom left us some.
My grandpa liked the cherry pie! He got really excited when I told him I made him one! (He also tried my pecan pie.)
Then, I sent all the food with everyone else so we all we have left is ham. I just wanted to have one cheat meal, and not have a bunch of it left to eat on for the next few days.
After lunch, we cleaned it all up and sat around for hours just visiting and watching football. We have a hard time getting everyone together, so it was nice to be able to spend a few hours together with no distractions.
As I sat there, I started getting sleepy! After everyone left, I just wanted to take a nap. But, we had to put up all the tables and chairs. We also had to run over to my grandmas because I forgot to give my aunt some pecans.
We sat over there for a couple more hours visiting with them. My aunt and uncle only get to come to town a few times a year, so I really enjoy when they are here. When we left my grandmas, the rain had finally started! It has poured and thundered all night, and it is still raining.
It’s supposed to rain for the next 4 days. I have seriously got to look into getting a treadmill!
I had a really good Thanksgiving. I loved having everyone at my house, and seeing everyone together. I am so thankful to have my family all here this year. I saw a commercial during the parade that said instead of saying what you are thankful for, say who you are thankful for. So, I am thankful for my family. Each and every one of them.
What or who are you thankful for this year?
I have had an extremely busy week, as I’m sure most of you have too! I feel like I have been running around like a crazy person!
Monday morning, I was not very hungry for a long time. I think around 10, I finally ate a Bear Naked bar. Then, for lunch I made a salad.
It was a Dole sunflower chopped salad, and I added grilled chicken to it. It looked really good, but I had a couple of bites, and it just didn’t taste very good and I didn’t have much of an appetite. So I didn’t eat it. Later that afternoon I had another Bear Naked bar and some turkey snack sticks. I had planned on running, but instead I took a rest day. Not necessarily because I needed it, but because I had so much stuff to get done before Thanksgiving. I had to make a last minute mad dash to Wal-mart. That place was absolutely crazy! There were people everywhere, and it makes it so much worse when you’re in a hurry. I only needed a couple of things, but I ended up being in there for half an hour. When I got home, I took Jake for a run/walk.
We ran the trails in our pasture. They are just trails that the horse has made, but they work! He ran a mile with me, and then we walked for a mile. We have to go around and around the pasture, but he loves it! At least in there, he can be off of his leash and run as much as he wants to.
Once we got back from his walk, I got busy doing things around the house. I started picking up everything and getting ready to clean. One of my friends told me that she hired a house cleaner to come this week. Jeremy offered but I said no. Now, I’m wishing I would have taken him up on that! Then I baked a cherry pie. My grandpa and I love cherry pie. I always bake him one for Thanksgiving.
After that, I had to get all of Jeremy’s refereeing clothes ready for Tuesday night. And then, I spent forever cleaning up my room. (It’s our guest bedroom, but it’s where I get ready.) I had clothes strewn all over the bed, shoes thrown all around the room, jewelry lying all over the dresser, and makeup scattered everywhere! Plus, Jake had drug out all of his toys and they were all over the floor. I don’t know how it got so bad because I am very OCD about keeping things picked up.
After all of that, I stayed up until 11:30 so I could watch Adele on Jimmy Fallon. She is really funny!
Tuesday I had my normal green tea and yogurt for breakfast. Then I had some chicken strips for lunch. I went to a bird show at our local university. The show was put on by the Sutton Center. They are a conservation organization from Oklahoma and they work with OU to find conservation solutions for birds. They had a lot of birds and owls, but the Bald Eagle was my favorite! I wanted to hold it really bad!
Later in the afternoon I got in a 3 mile run. It was chilly!
My weather app said that it was 60, but I don’t believe it! Plus, the wind was blowing 22mph, and it was cold!
But I like running in the cold weather once I adjust. I had a good run. I felt really good, and was pretty much pain free. I did start having a dull pain in my foot during the last mile, so I slowed way down and just jogged it. I ran up and down a little side road. I went up and down it probably 3 or 4 times and then on my way back down, I ran into these little guys.
I thought they were turkeys at first, until I got closer. LOL
They didn’t even run from me!
And then there was the swarm of the birds. There were literally hundreds of them, and every time I would run under these trees, they would all fly to another one. I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture of them all flying away, but I got a few.
After my run, I went home and got busy! I did not sit down until I went to bed around 11:30. I had to run back to Wal-mart to pick up some cleaning supplies and dog food. (I have not been very organized for this holiday!) I also grabbed the ingredients for corn casserole. Monica at RunEatRepeat posted it this week. This is one of my favorite dishes, and I can’t remember the last time I had it, so I decided to make it too. You can find her recipe here. When I got home I started my house cleaning frenzy! The first thing I did was wipe all of my cabinets and furniture with Liquid Gold. It just makes them look new and shiny.
Then I started baking pies while I cleaned the rest of the house. I made good use of a lot of those pecans I picked up! First I baked two pecan pies.
Then I baked two pumpkin pies.
When Jeremy got home from his basketball game, he wanted me to fix him a frozen pizza. I realized then (at 10:30) that I had not eaten anything. So, I fixed him a pizza and had a piece of it. I was exhausted by the time I went to bed.
I woke up this morning with a sore throat, headache, and was having trouble breathing. I immediately did a breathing treatment and started some medicine. I don’t worry so much when it’s just a cold, but when it’s in my chest it quickly turns into a respiratory infection and I can’t get rid of it. Seriously, it will last for months! I was just thinking yesterday that I hadn’t been sick in a while! I guess I jinxed myself. Since I wasn’t feeling so well, I just went for a two mile walk. I didn’t want to try to run and make it worse. Plus, it was misting really heavily, and I didn’t want to be out in that for too long.
Once I came in, I threw the corn casserole together and put it in the oven while I showered.
Jeremy came home from hunting with a surprise for me! He got my deer back that I shot last year!!
This was my first buck, and I have been really upset about it because the taxidermist promised us it would be ready in June (we even paid extra to have it rushed), and after June we have not been able to get a hold of him. He won’t answer the door to his shop or his phone. I was really afraid that I wasn’t going to see it again. But, here it is!!
Jake wasn’t so sure of it.
Then, Jeremy and I ran to town to pay a bill. He had to go to the ER back in September. We got a bill for an insane amount of money, and it showed that his insurance had only paid $200 of it! When I called the insurance company, they told me what they had been billed, and it was $700 less than the total amount of the bill that we received. This made no sense to me! So, when we went today to pay it, I asked about that, and the cashier said that they had not billed his insurance yet, that they had given him a $200 discount because he was put in the computer as “self pay”. So, that was good news! Hopefully now his insurance will pay some of that ridiculous bill.
After that, we came back home and I baked the green bean casserole.
Now all I have to cook tomorrow is hot rolls and ham.
This afternoon I started feeling a little nauseous, so when Jeremy went hunting, I laid down to take a nap. I felt a little better when I woke up. I really hope I am not getting sick! I am so excited for Thanksgiving tomorrow. And, I’m really excited to watch my cousin on TV in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Her group is the Spirit of American Dance Team, they will be after Mariah Carey and right before Santa.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
What are you thankful for this year?
I am so excited for Thanksgiving next week! I can’t wait! I have so much to be thankful for this year. The biggest thing I am thankful for is my family. You never know what could happen. We’ve had some really rough patches with family members being very sick this year, so I’m very thankful that we are all together.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I’m not big on Thanksgiving food, but I love having everyone come together. We do Thanksgiving at my house, and that is probably one of the reasons why I love it so much! Everyone comes over to eat lunch and spend the day visiting. My grandma gave me this beautiful centerpiece a couple of years ago for hosting. She thought it would work for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Jake had to check it out when I got it out this week.
I also enjoy the preparation for the big day just as much. All of the women divide up the dishes, so I don’t have to cook everything. (Although, I don’t think I would mind that) I do the ham, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, hot rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and cherry pie. We always have so much food!
This past weekend, Jeremy and I went ahead and bought everything we will need.
Jeremy ordered a smoked ham, so all I will have to do is heat it on Thursday morning. I think being organized is the biggest part of hosting a holiday! I plan on spending Wednesday cleaning my house and baking pies.
I will probably make the green bean casserole on Wednesday too.
I think the more you can get done before, the more it will help you the day of. It will also free up the oven for other things, and it will give me more time to visit with everyone instead of being in the kitchen all morning.
This year I’m really excited about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. My cousin is dancing with the US Tap Team in the parade. Watch for them, they are supposed to stop and dance on TV!
What do you do to get ready for Thanksgiving?
