Hey guys! Happy June! I hope you all had a great week! I had kind of a slow week. I didn’t feel 100% so working out and running was a bit of a struggle. I left off my last recap last Saturday. So we’ll pick up on Sunday and get you all caught up on what’s been happening in my life this week! more “Hello June!”
Hey guys! How has your week been? I hope you are all getting some nice spring weather. We’ve had great temperatures all week which has made it nice to be outside! This week was pretty low-key. I didn’t do anything exciting. But, it was nice to have some quiet and be able to be at home and get some things done! more “My Life This Week”
I spent all day Monday doing some last minute shopping. I always think I’m done, but then I remember “just one more” thing. I do this a lot and I don’t know why because I make tons of lists!!
Monday was supposed to be a rest day from running, but since I missed this weekend’s long run, I decided to make it up. When I got up, I ran 5 miles. It was a really pretty morning, and there were a million squirrels playing in the road.
Well, maybe not a million, but a whole bunch of them!
I was doing really good until about half way in and my stomach started hurting again. It made me start to think that maybe I was really sick after all. I felt pretty nauseas, but I kept going. I walked / jogged the last half of my run, but I powered through and got it done!
After I was done, I went home and laid in the floor until my stomach settled. I felt fine after that! Then I got up to do some work on the computer, and this is what I found.
It really kind of creeped me out, I started thinking I had been hacked. The screen stayed like that for several minutes before it finally let me on my desktop.
When I finally got around, I met Jeremy in town to run some last minute errands. This turned into an all-day event. We went shopping for his dad. He was the only person that we hadn’t bought for yet. While we were out shopping, we decided to try the new food truck that we have in town.
They were really busy, so I took that as a good sign. The food was phenomenal! I had the beef street tacos. They came with seasoned beef, onion, cilantro, shredded cheese, and an avocado Verde sauce. They were so good! I am really excited about this place now! I’m going to try the chicken street tacos next time.
After shopping for a while and striking out everywhere we went, we decided that we would go see a friend of mine and have her print some t-shirts and jackets for Jeremy’s dad with their business logo on it. I think he will love it!
Then I had to go exchange some jeans at Rue 21 and Maurices. I don’t know what the deal was, I tried them on in the store, but once I got them home and put them on, they were way too big. After that I ran to Wal-Mart to get everything that we will need for Christmas Eve dinner. I had a snack too!
Then I came home and sat with Jake. He went and got a bath yesterday, and we noticed when we picked him up that he was limping a little.
I don’t know if she trimmed his nails to short, or if jumping out of the truck hurt his legs, but I was worried. When we picked him up, he wouldn’t even jump up in the truck. Jeremy had to put him in there and get him out. I don’t know what it was, but when we brought him home, he slept all day and night. He didn’t want to get up, and he barely ate anything. I was really worried. But, he is doing much better today!
I felt like I was on the go all day Monday! I finally sat down late Monday night, and we watched Elf again! I love that movie! I think I fell asleep before 10.
I woke up around 8 this morning. I was surprised because Jake hadn’t woken me up yet. I got up and let him out, and then got dressed to run. The road was empty and it was awesome to run on!
I ran 3 miles and it was a little chilly! The horses were still asleep.
But the guineas were not!
I really don’t live way out in the country, it just looks like it.
After running, I iced my leg. It started bothering me a little during my run. But, after icing it, it didn’t hurt at all. I had to go run a few more errands. My mom had texted me Monday night about what I needed to bring to Christmas, so that meant another trip to Wal-Mart!
I actually went over to my mom’s first to return her ugly Christmas sweater that I borrowed.
I visited with her and my dad for a little while and then I headed to Wal-Mart. I was in and out of there in 15 minutes! The check outs weren’t busy at all, it was just all of the people with their baskets parked in the middle of the aisles that slowed me down!
On my way home, my grandma called and wanted me to meet her at a store in town. So, I turned around and headed back up there. I spent an hour shopping with her. She wanted to buy me something else for Christmas, and I kept trying to tell her that she didn’t need to. But she kept insisting, so I picked out a pair of house shoes and some measuring spoons. (A couple of mine had an unfortunate meeting with my disposal!) This store has a senior citizen discount on Tuesdays. They get 20% off, so I used her discount and bought Jeremy some cologne that he has been wanting. I’ll stuff it in his stocking later! (Hopefully he won’t read this before Thursday night!)
Then, I went to get my hair trimmed and I finally broke down and got some bangs cut. I have been thinking about this since before Halloween and I just couldn’t make up my mind. My best friend kept reminding me how much I have hated them before. But my hair has been the exact same for years and I was kind of tired of it. So, I decided to change it up a bit with some side bangs. They are kind of long, but if I like them, I may go have them cut shorter.
After that, I came home and took Jake for a walk. The weather had warmed up and it was 70 degrees!
We walked for a long time while Jeremy vacuumed and cleaned out our vehicles.
I also started a new book today. It is called See How They Run. It’s the second book in the Embassy Row series by Ally Carter. I read the first book, All Fall Down last year and had to wait a whole year for this new one to come out. I hate that!! But it was really good, so I bought the new one today.
The series is about a girl name Grace who has moved to an Embassy Row in another country to live with her Ambassador grandfather. Her mother was killed and Grace starts remembering details about her death, but no one believes her. They all think she is crazy. So she works to find out what happened. It’s a good really good story line with a lot of suspense and mystery.
I am planning on cleaning, baking, and running tomorrow. I am supposed to run 9 miles this weekend, but we will not be home and there is no way I will be able to get that in. So, I am thinking about running it tomorrow. We’ll just see how my day goes. If I don’t get it in, I will have to do it next Monday or Tuesday. Or, this may have to be a week that I redo after Christmas! I’m just going to have to play it by ear!
Jeremy and I are going on a date tonight! We’re going to dinner and then to look at Christmas lights! I’ll take lots of pictures and post them tomorrow!
Are you ready for Christmas?
Before I get busy this weekend, I thought I would catch you up on what I have been doing this week.
It has felt like this week has lasted a year! To be honest, when I sat down to write this, I couldn’t remember what I did on Monday or Tuesday. So, I had to look back at what I have posted this week and I realized that I already posted Monday and Tuesday. So, that brings me to Wednesday.
On Wednesday, I had oatmeal for breakfast and a Smart Ones meal for lunch. It was Alfredo with broccoli. It’s probably one of my favorites. Since the weather has started to get cold, I have been wanting hot food. So, I bought a bunch of frozen dinners to eat for lunch. They are hot, and they keep me full all afternoon. I ran 3 miles on Wednesday.
It was a pretty good run. I started having a little bit of soreness in my left leg. It’s not the same pain that I was having in my right leg, so hopefully that is a good sign. It’s just sore right above my ankle. It’s more in the muscle, and it only hurts when I run. So, after my run, I iced it and massaged it and it felt a lot better. Then I took Jake for a walk. It ended up lasting a lot longer than I planned because we ran into a pack of puppies. I have no idea who they belong too, but they were super cute. They squeezed through the fence so they could play with Jake and he loved it! They were all jumping on him and rolling all around him and he just played and played with them. He was mad when I pushed them back through the fence so we could go home. He ran up and down the fence whining and barking with them. We tried to convince Jeremy that we needed the black and white one, but he wasn’t going for it.
Once we got home, I got busy baking. I made homemade oatmeal cream pies. I got the recipe from Tara at Simply Taralynn. You can see her recipe here. Mine look nothing like hers. I couldn’t get the filling to be thick and not runny. But, they were delicious! I mean, I could have eaten all of them by myself! I actually cut the recipe in half because I knew we didn’t need a whole bunch, so maybe that was what went wrong with the filling. The cookies were soft and chewy, and the filling was sweet. After I let them sit for awhile, the filling seemed to harden up a little bit. I’ll definitely be making these again!
On Thursday, I had oatmeal for breakfast and a Lean Cuisine chicken and Spanish rice meal for lunch. It was okay, not one of my favorites, but I didn’t hate it. I was really dreading my run because I was so tired. But, I knew I had to do it, so I did and it was awesome!
It’s always days like that when I don’t want to do it, that I usually have a great run. When I went out to start, I turned my app on and found out that I had forgotten to turn it off the day before. It said I had run 3 miles in 18 hours. Oops! I ran 3 miles with no pain! After my run, I got out all of our Christmas stuff, and got busy putting up our trees, and drinking eggnog. You can see my Christmas tree post here.
Today, I ate an oatmeal cookie for breakfast! It was so good. Then I had a Fit and Active meal from Aldi for lunch. It was Chicken Alfredo with spinach. It was pretty good to just be 97 cents!
After lunch, I went to Aldi to pick up some wrapping paper, bows, gift bags, and ribbon. They have cute stuff and it is cheap! And, I also picked up some more of the Fit and Active frozen meals. I’m going to try the lasagna next. I’ll let you know how it is.
I got a huge surprise when I got home. When I pulled in my driveway, I noticed that there was a lot of water running out from under the garage door. When I opened it, I found that the garage was flooded! My washer had backed up, and there was water standing everywhere! Jeremy was gone, so I had to try to clean it. I had to move everything to the middle of the garage and dry it all off. The water ran out in front of the washer and then down the side to the opposite wall of the garage and down it. It was weird! I had to sweep out all of the water. I couldn’t believe how much of it there was! But, once I got it all out, the floor dried pretty quickly. We’re hoping that it just backed up because we got over 7 inches of rain this week and it just didn’t have any place to drain because there is so much water everywhere.
After cleaning that mess, I took Jake for a walk to see the puppies again. He loves them! He played with them while I talked to our neighbor. We stayed out until it was almost dark, and then I made Jake go home because I was cold!
When we got home, I finished wrapping presents with all of my new wrapping paper. And, Jake kept stealing my bows. I thought this year I would try to put them on and see if he would leave them alone, but I guess that’s not going to happen!
This week was a really long week, but it was a good week as far as running and eating go. I noticed this week that I am starting to get back on track. I have really been struggling the last few weeks with my food choices. I have tried to make healthy choices, but with all of the pies and breads and also with being so busy, I have really not been very good. I was craving sweets and carbs, even a cheeseburger. I know it’s only been a week, but I am already feeling better. Getting back in a routine of running has really helped. When I am consistently running, I crave healthy foods. I make much better choices because when I eat junk, it makes it harder to run. I am really excited about this marathon training. It’s going to give me something to work towards!
Tomorrow, I have 6 miles to run. I’ll update you when my week one training is complete!
What are your plans this weekend?
If you like dogs, then keep reading! Or you could just keep reading anyways! This is going to be a long post, but my dog is one of the most important things in my life. Getting him was the best decision we ever made! So, this post is dedicated to Jake.
When we started thinking about getting a dog, we weren’t sure if we wanted one yet or not. We lived in an apartment, and we didn’t have a fenced yard. But, Jeremy was working a lot at night, and I didn’t like being alone so we decided to get one. We found a breeder a few hours away from us, and contacted them. They had their dogs set up on webcams so you could look at the puppies. We picked one out, but we wanted to go see it in person. So, we went for a visit when the puppies were about 3 weeks old. At that time Jake was named “Puppy 4”. When I first held him, I knew that he was the one. He nuzzled into me and just slept in my arms. It was so hard to leave him for another 3 weeks.
On the day we went to pick him up, we were so excited. We got there and they handed him to me. We went to leave and they told us that he had never been outside before. I took him out and set him on the grass, and it was so funny watching him sniff everything and walk around so gently. On the ride home, he slept on my lap.
That night that we got home, we woke up in the middle of the night and he was throwing up. He threw up all night, and I cried and cried. There was nothing we could do to help him, and I was so scared that something was seriously wrong with him. The next morning, we took him to the vet’s office as soon as they opened. They checked him out and said he was fine. They figured it was just the stress of him leaving his mom and riding in a car for so long. We took him home and I held him all day and he was fine.
I have so many funny stories about Jake. He is such a ray of sunshine in our lives. The first one that I want to share is that when he was little, he would sleep in the bed with us and he would sleep across the tops of our pillows. One morning, I left for work and he was lying on Jeremy’s pillow sleeping with him. Jeremy called me later and said that when he woke up he was covered in sheet rock. Jake had started licking the wall, and had licked and chewed a hole in it and Jeremy never woke up! I wish we have taken a picture of it! It was hilarious! That was the only thing that Jake has ever chewed up. People never believe us when we tell them that because he is a lab.
Jake loves the water! As a puppy, we couldn’t keep him out of it. If I tried to take a bath, I would have to close the door or he would jump in with me. Several times I would start the water and come back to find him in the tub turning in circles and digging in the water. He will dig and shoot water all over the walls.
The funniest one to me though is that when we leave and Jake gets mad that we’re gone, he will find dirty clothes or my kitchen towel and drag them out all over the house. He won’t chew any of the up, but he will get it all out. He does this when he stays with my father in law. He has a doggie door there, and one day we came home and he had gotten 8 hats and a whole bunch of socks and took them outside.
When we got Jake, we didn’t want to leave him in a crate all day. Luckily, Jeremy works for himself, so he would take Jake everywhere with him. He sits in the front seat just like a person does and just watches out the window. People all over town loved him! The bank, the cleaners, the gas station – they would all get excited when he came through because they thought it was so funny how he just sat in the truck. And of course, Jake loved the attention!
Jake also loves kids! Anytime our cousin comes to stay, Jake wants to sleep with him and he follows him around everywhere. I was babysitting one of my friend’s babies one time. She was around 8 months old. Jake sat right next to her carrier and just watched her. If she made noises, he would cock his head to the side. If she cried, he wanted to lick her. The whole time she was there, he never left her side. He will be a good big brother when we have kids.
This summer, our local animal shelter hosted a race to raise money for the shelter. They had a dog run, so we took Jake. They had swimming pools set up at the finish line. Jake was the only dog that would get in them. The others would just drink from them, but Jake tried out all of the pools before he found the right one. This was the third year that Jake has gone to this race. The dog part is not a race, but Jake thinks it is. As soon as they sound the horn to go, he takes off full speed until he crosses the finish line. The other dogs just walk or jog, but Jake thinks he needs to win. He must get that from me! This summer it was way too hot for him, so we didn’t let him run because we didn’t want him to get sick. (The picture is last summer)
I love it when he gets excited and runs around with his butt tucked under. He will run in circles until he is tired and just flops down on the floor. We laugh so hard at him when he does that. He is very entertaining.
He is so full of energy and personality. He is such a happy dog and is always wagging his tail and wanting someone’s attention. He never meets a stranger and he is so friendly. He is so smart. He knows what we are saying when we talk to him. He also knows where his treats are, and he will sit in front of the cabinet and bark at us if he wants one. He may be a little lot spoiled! But, I want to make sure he is happy and healthy. I want him to be around for a long time!
