Hey Everyone! I decided to come back and join the Weekly Wrap link up! I haven’t been linking each week because since surgery I haven’t been able to run or workout. But, this week I was somewhat active. I walked almost every day and got in a few short workouts as well, so here I am! more “A Week of Activities”
My New Years Eve started out really great. I got the best news when I checked my email that morning. I found out that I am a new Sweat Pink Ambassador!! I am so honored and excited! This news made my day! For those of you who don’t know, Sweat Pink is a community of active women who sweat hard and inspire others to do the same. The community is a place for enthusiastic, positive, inspirational people to connect and support each other in reaching their goals around health, fitness, life… and more. I am really excited that I have my own treadmill now.
I used to have to go to my moms when the weather was bad to use hers. But, she decided that she wanted an elliptical, so she gave me the treadmill! We picked it up Wednesday night and I got to use it it Thursday morning. The weather was actually nice, but my left leg was a little sore, so I thought it would be easier on my leg to run on the treadmill. And it was! I had a really good 6 mile run and no pain!
He couldn’t wait for me to get finished so I could take him for a walk.
We walked quickly because I didn’t wear enough clothes and was cold!
We chilled at home and watched my Sooners get their tail handed to them.
After running so much I was starving, so I ate a little cheese dip. That didn’t fill me up, so I ate some turkey snack sticks. I felt like a bottomless pit! I hate that feeling after I had such a good workout. I felt hungry the rest of the night!
After the OU game, we flipped through the channels and watched some of the Alabama game. We were bored, so we decided to go to the casino.
We never go because I always lose! We took Jake across the street to my father-in-laws, and he gave me $14 to take. Jeremy had $15, and we decided that was all we were going to play and when it was gone we would go back home. My $14 lasted about 10 minutes! Then Jeremy handed me a $10 to play with and I lost it all.
One of Jeremy’s employees was in there, and he put $25 in for me. I tried to tell him no because I knew I would lose it, but he insisted. (He had already won a bunch). I pushed Bet 1 on the machine and meant to hit play, but instead I hit max bet, which was $10, and I won $204!! I immediately cashed out, and I gave the guy $100 since it was his money that I played with. Jeremy decided he wanted me to play it again, so he handed me another $20 and on my first spin I won $60! I was done after that!
When we got home, I fixed us a plate of Hickory Farms sausage and cheese. I didn’t like the turkey sausage at all. It was disgusting! It had kind of a sweet flavor, and a really bad after taste. I did like the beef sausage, but not the cheese. But, I’m not big on cheese anyways.
We ate a little bit of it while we watched the Rockin New Years Eve show. As soon as the ball dropped, we were headed to bed! I saw this on Instagram, and it is so true!
(That’s why we went to the casino; it was either there or to bed.)
New Years Day, we slept in until around 10. I had some toast for breakfast with low sugar jelly. See I’m already following my resolution on cutting back on sugar!
Then we got ready to go hunting. I sat in the blind by myself. It wasn’t to cold at first. But around 4:30 my hands and feet were freezing! I got my heater on and it stayed lit for about ten minutes and then it wouldn’t come back on. So I just had to be cold! I didn’t see a single deer!
After dark we went home and got ready to go eat. We went to Rib Crib so we could watch the Sugar Bowl.
We started with some chips and salsa.
This morning I got up early and ran 10 miles on the treadmill. It was really boring and more of a mental challenge than anything. But, my legs have been a little sore this week and the treadmill doesn’t make them hurt, so I thought I would play it safe.
What did you do for New Years?
What do you do on a treadmill to help pass the time? Any good podcasts or audiobook recommendations?
I’m finally to our last Christmas and this one lasted the longest. After Christmas morning with my family, we went home and packed to head out of town to spend Christmas night with our cousins and Aunt S and Uncle B. S and B were at my father-in-law’s, so we went over there before we all got on the road. Jake was trying to tell S not to leave him.
We arrived at Jeremy’s other aunt and uncle’s house around 5:30. His cousin K was there with her husband and my favorite tiny person! I got her all to myself for about an hour!
Then the other cousins and their kids, M and C got there. They were having tacos for dinner, but I was still pretty full. I ate a tiny taco salad and a little bit of cherry cream cheese pie. (We brought all of our leftover food)
After dinner we let the kids open the gifts in their stockings.
We were going to have Christmas the next day and have a huge meal with all of the Thanksgiving food. This whole family was in New York over Thanksgiving. M was dancing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, so they missed a traditional meal.
By 9:30 I was exhausted, so I went down to the guest house to get ready for bed. The next morning, everyone got up early to go hunting. I didn’t want to go, so I slept in. I slept through breakfast, but that was okay since I ate so much the day before. M got a deer, so Jeremy and her dad had to clean it and take it to the processor. While they did that, and everyone else got ready for Christmas lunch, I got to play with my favorite tiny person! She is a ball of energy! She wanted to ride her tricycle, and then we made pictures with Christmas stickers.
Every few minutes she kept asking if we could open gifts. She was really excited about them!
For lunch we had turkey, stuffing, broccoli and rice casserole, corn, green bean casserole, hot rolls, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and salad. I was still full from all of the food I had eaten in the last 24 hours, so I didn’t eat very much. I had some sweet potato, turkey, salad, and corn. Jeremy’s aunt makes the best corn!
After lunch, we opened gifts! Jeremy and I gave our favorite little person a toy walking dog. She absolutely loved it! More than I thought she would! She kept hugging it and petting it like it was a real dog.
I gave M a Divinity LA bracelet. She was really excited about it!
And, we gave C a National Geographic Kids weird facts books. He really liked it.
They gave Jeremy an original Wa-Hoo board. He has been wanting one for a long time.
And, they gave me some lululemon tights! This is my first pair of them, and I am in love!! I also got a camo t-shirt with a pink monogram on it, and a rain jacket with my monogram on it!
This one got a karoke machine and she serenaded us all night with Frozen songs and Taylor Swift! She is so cute!!
When we were done opening gifts, we went hunting. M and I sat together in a tower blind.
Jeremy and C dropped us off and we weren’t in it ten minutes and a massive thunderstorm hit. The wind was blowing so hard, and the blind was swaying. There were bolts of lightning all around us, and the rain was pounding so hard that it was coming straight in the closed windows. At one point it completely stopped and was eerily still. I kept thinking a tornado was going to drop down on us any second. But then the storm started again.
We were pretty scared!! But, we had fun taking pictures and talking. We knew we weren’t going to see any deer so we didn’t really try to be quiet. Plus, they wouldn’t have been able to hear us over the storm. It was quite an adventure!!
Jeremy and C came to get us in the middle of the storm, and we headed back to the house to get dry! Once everyone got back, the kids opened a few more presents and then we just hung out and visited. We played Blockus, and I am not any good at it!! I lost every time we played! He beat me twice!
They set some food out for dinner. I ate some goat cheese and crackers, turkey, and a piece of sweet potato. Then I had a piece of pumpkin pie for dessert. Then C got out his new hover board and we all took turns on it. It was so hard!! I was impressed that I could actually stand up on it. It took me a little bit to get used to it.
Jeremy had a hard time getting up on it.
He was able to figure it out and get it going.
We hung out with everyone until around 8 when the storm let up a little and then we headed home. We got home around 9 and unloaded the truck. We were both so tired, so we went straight to bed. I think I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow!
Sunday morning we slept in, and then got up and put up all of the Christmas decorations. I always hate to put them up. 🙁
As much as I love the holidays, I am glad to get things back to normal. I love all of the unhealthy food that comes with them, but I don’t like to eat that kind of food so much. At least three times over this holiday, I got sick to my stomach. It’s because I never eat such rich, greasy, and good food. I know it’s unhealthy and my body isn’t used to it, so it makes me sick. So, I am ready to be able to get back on a healthy routine and get my running back on schedule and eat healthier again
Jeremy and I went to the grocery store Sunday in the pouring rain and got some healthy foods!
I left all of our leftover pies and food at his aunt and uncle’s house. I have cleared out all of unhealthy foods in our house and I am ready to clean up my diet!
I also bought myself a Christmas present – a Pioneer Woman skillet!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday and were able to spend time with your loved ones!
Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? I did! I hunted all weekend, and I think it’s exciting!
When I got up Saturday morning (at 4:45), I had every intention of going hunting with Jeremy. It was opening day of rifle season and I was excited! But, when I started getting ready, I was so sleepy because we had stayed up till midnight, I decided to go back to bed! It was really windy so I didn’t think the deer would be moving anyways. So I slept for a few more hours and then went for a run. It turned out to be more of a walk and some jogging, because I was so tired, but I did it! The wind was blowing hard and it was cold!
I have been kinda down all week. I’ve had a lot going on and it has really been weighing on me this week. So, I treated myself to some retail therapy! And it helped!! I found this cute dress on the clearance rack for $5!
Then we ate a sandwich for lunch and got ready to go back to the woods.
A cold front came through Friday night so we had to bundle up! I had on 3 layers of clothes. I feel like a giant marshmallow and can’t move when I have on that many clothes, but they kept me warm.
We went home and watched the OU and OSU games. I also did a little Christmas shopping online and bought my first present! I fixed us some frozen hot wings that we found at Aldi. They were huge, and I forgot to take a picture of them. They probably would have been good, but I accidentally cooked them to long (the smoke alarm went off LOL), so they were extra crunchy! They didn’t burn, so we did eat them.
When the alarm rang Sunday morning at 4:45 I debated sleeping in. But, I knew the weather was going to be perfect! It was supposed to be cold, clear, and no wind. So I went. It was freezing, literally!!
The ground was covered in frost and I could see my breath. If it wasn’t for my Big Buddy heater, I would have been miserable! It kept me pretty warm until we ran out of propane!
We were really surprised because we only saw a few does. When we were ready to leave, the 4 wheeler would not start. Jeremy tried and tried to start it, but it just wouldn’t. So we pushed it out of the trees and I walked all the way back to get the truck. It was probably about a mile, but it felt like 5 because of all of my layers of clothes and my big boots! By the time I got back with the truck, Jeremy had finally gotten it running. So, we loaded it up and headed to our cousins land to check their feeders and cameras for them.
It had warmed up a lot, so I didn’t have to wear so many layers.
When we got in the blind and I got still, the sleepiness set in! I literally could not keep my eyes open. I really thought about laying on the ground! I took a little nap until the feeder went off. We sat there for several hours and didn’t see one deer! Jeremy had decided that he was going to shoot them with his slingshot!
Just kidding! We had a random dog come running through a few times. So he shot some bb’s at it so it would leave and quit scaring the deer away.
We think we didn’t see any deer because the man who has the land that joins ours kept driving up and down the fence! He does it every year during rifle season and it is so annoying! He thinks he owns all of the deer!
We stayed until the sun was setting. So, I saw the sunrise and sunset from a deer blind on Sunday!
After hunting, we went home and watched the AMA’s and ate some scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast for dinner, and we were in bed by 10!
What did you do this weekend?
Every year I put a lot of thought into the gifts that I give people. I want gifts to be something that they enjoy, but also something that they need. I also try to start early, so I can buy something nice for everyone, and then I’m not broke at Christmas! With hunting season going on, and with me having so many hunters in my family, I thought I would put together a list of gifts that are perfect for the outdoorsman or outdoorswoman (I would like some of these!) in your life. I enlisted Jeremy to help me with this.
- Camo Backpack – All hunters need a backpack to carry supplies.
- Scent Blocker Jacket – Not only is it warm, but it keeps you scent free.
- Gloves – A necessity! It gets cold during hunting season!
- Scent Blocker Pants – All hunters need scent blocker thermal pants to stay warm and undetected.
- Hunting Boots – Hunters need to make sure that their feet are warm and dry.
For the ladies:
- Gloves – It is miserabl
Hi! Happy Monday!
How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? I had a pretty calm and relaxing weekend, and it was nice.
We had planned on sleeping in Saturday morning, but Jake didn’t want us to. He was up at 7! I let him out, and then tried to go back to bed, but around 8 he decided that he wanted to play with his toys, so I just got up. I tried to be quiet and let Jeremy sleep, but I guess I wasn’t because he woke up too. Since we were up early, we decided to be productive and get some stuff done. You know how I’ve been picking up pecans almost on a daily basis? Well we had them cracked and blowed and now we have to separate them. All 77 pounds of them!!
So, we worked on that for awhile and then I went for a 3 mile walk. The weather was really nice and the sun was out!
After my walk, I got ready and we went to get all of our groceries for the week, and also for Thanksgiving. Then we ran home to put the groceries up and get ready to go hunting. Jeremy has had pictures of a big buck on his trail cam and it is at the feeder everyday around 3. So he decided we needed to get there around 2. This was the first time I have ever hunted entirely by myself. Usually if we don’t sit in a blind or stand together, I will sit in a ground blind, and Jeremy will sit in a tree stand which are all right beside one another. But, on Saturday Jeremy wanted me to sit on the complete opposite side of our land from him. We’ve started having pictures of different bucks on both sides so he wanted us to split up and watch both sides. I was a little nervous being all alone, but it was okay.
It was in the lower 60’s, and the wind was blowing 10+ miles an hour. (Deer don’t move much when it’s warm or really windy.). About an hour after I got there, I had a coyote come in. It came really close to me, and I had my bow ready to shoot, but I never could get a good shot. Then, close to dark I had 2 does and a baby come in. They are the same ones that always come in. I think they like me because I’m pretty sure they know I’m there and they let me take their picture and they don’t run off.
After dark, Jeremy came and picked me up and we headed home. A couple of our friends came over to watch the OU / Baylor game. They brought all kinds of food! It was like a pizza party! They brought 2 pizzas, cheese bread, 2 kinds of wings, and a cinnaboli from Mazzios. My friend is pregnant, and she said when she was ordering she just kept adding stuff that sounded good. :).
It was so much food for just us 4, they had plenty to take home! This was my cheat meal for the week. I ate 2 pieces of pepperoni and 3 hot wings. The first 2 weren’t spicy at all but the last one burned!!
We watched OU and Baylor. It was pretty obvious that the officials were making calls that benefited Baylor. I don’t think I have ever watched a game where it was that obvious. And, Baylor was playing really dirty! The stuff they were doing and getting away with was ridiculous! The commentators thought so too any kept showing replays of every cheap shot they took. Watch the video below and see what you think!
Our friends left when the game was over and I went straight to bed. I was so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open.
Sunday morning we woke up early again. It was freezing!! A cold front came through during the night. Jeremy got up and turned the heat on and then went to help his dad with some stuff. I got up and prepped my lunches for the week. I made seasoned ground turkey and steamed asparagus. I’ll post that recipe soon.
I absolutely hate being cold! But, I actually like running in the cold weather. My best time in a 5K was on a night when it was 28 degrees! I can breathe better in the cold weather than I can when its hot and humid. I really wanted to run yesterday, but my foot was still a little sore so I thought I would give it one more day. I plan on running this afternoon.
After my walk, Jeremy and I went to pick up more pecans. There are millions of them! I wasn’t kidding when I said everyone is getting some for Christmas!
I like picking them up because it’s almost like a stress reliever. I can spend hours out there walking around with Jake picking them up. I just like being outside. But we didn’t spend too long out there because it was cold and Jake got in trouble! He’s started eating the pecans. He will it’s the whole thing and swallow it! He ate a couple last week before I could get them out of his mouth and I got really worried. I googled it (I know that’s like the worst thing to do) and it said that a small amount is not harmful to dogs, but if it’s moldy it can be deadly. So, yesterday when Jake took a bite of one and ran from so I couldn’t get it from him, I immediately took him back home!
The we got ready to go hunting, and had to get out all of our heavy warm clothes!
It rained off and on the entire time we were there. Jeremy saw a big buck, but it ran off before he shoot at it. About 5:00, it started pouring and we were ready to get out and go home. But, as soon as Jeremy said he was coming to get me, my friends came back.
And, they brought friends with them! I had 10 does and 2 babies in front of me. I watched for awhile so I could make sure I didn’t shoot a mom. I got my bow ready, and aimed, and the deer moved, so I moved to the other window and couldn’t get my body situated to where I could shoot right. I really tried, and thought I had my sight right on the deer, but when I released my arrow, I missed. 🙁 Oh well, I guess there’s always next time. I was pretty
mad disappointed though.
By the time we got back to the truck, we were soaked and freezing! We turned the heater on full blast!
We went home and got dinner ready. Jeremy cooked with me last night, and as I’ve said before, I love it when he wants to help me cook! We had pork chops, scalloped potatoes, and crescent rolls. I also made Jeremy some Velveeta shells and cheese. I refuse to eat those, they are so nasty! But, he loves them and asked me to make him some, so I did.
After dinner, we played with Jake. He kept taking the kitchen towels and running from us. He took one of them to bed with him, so I covered him up with it and he went to sleep.
Then we went to bed also!
I hope you all have a great week!
What did you do this weekend?
I have some more updates for you! Since it was such a busy few days, I had to break it up into multiple posts.
Saturday morning we got up and went to an estate auction. I’m not sure why Jeremy is all about these all the sudden, but it is interesting to see what people auction off. The advertisement for this one had a bunch of tools listed on it, so that’s why we went. But, when we got there, it was actually just junk!
They kept trying to auction off boxes of “miscellaneous items”, and they even started the bidding at a dollar! No one would even bid that. So, they would add it all to a big pile that they were going to try and auction at the end. I did try to talk Jeremy into letting me get the vases and then resell them. I knew I could get more than a dollar for them. The auction went pretty fast, since no one was bidding on anything. I did try to get a steam cleaner for my house. It was brand new, and they said it had only been used once. But every time we bid, this old man would bid too. He wasn’t backing down, so we let him have it. Jeremy got a new extension ladder for $15! That is a bargain!
We left there and went home to take Jake for a walk.
Then we got ready to go back to the woods.
Jeremy decided to let me sit by myself. This was the first time I have ever sat by myself, and I was a little nervous.
We got there about 4:30, and around 5:00 we had three deer come out. There was a baby with them, so I refuse to shoot any that have a baby with them. They stayed for about twenty minutes and left. Then, the feeder went off at 5:30 and we had three more come out. They also had a baby with them. But, then another bigger doe came out by herself. I kept thinking that I would try to shoot her.
She was big, and I didn’t think she was with the baby since she had come out later. I had a perfect shot several times, but something didn’t feel right. At one point, I even pulled my bow back, but I just couldn’t do it. Now, I’m glad I didn’t. It turned out that she was the mom. When they got ready to leave, the baby followed her. I would have felt so bad! They left around six, and we sat there until seven.
We went home and got ready to go eat dinner. I had wanted Mexican, but by the time we were ready, it was close to 9. All of the Mexican restaurants in town close at 9:30, so I didn’t want to go in there when they were about to close. So we decided on Chili’s because they have Mexican food. This was probably the worst experience we have ever had at Chili’s. It’s safe to say that we won’t be going back there for a very long time!
We got there a little after 9. They were busy, and it was extremely loud in there. We were seated on a wall next to the kitchen, and we couldn’t even talk to each other because the staff was in the kitchen yelling and beating on the wall. We had to wait around 15 minutes for our server to bring our drinks. I think she was new, and she had pretty much the entire room by herself. I only saw two servers for the entire restaurant and they were both running around in a panic! And, there were about 5 people standing in the bar area doing nothing. We ordered chips and salsa while to eat while we looked over the menu.
We decided to do the 2 for $20 and I ordered combination fajitas with chicken and pork and Jeremy ordered ribs and fries. We waited over 45 minutes on our food to come out. When the waitress finally brought it, my skillet wasn’t sizzling, and it was cold to touch. The food on it looked disgusting, and they were out of the pork.
Jeremy’s ribs weren’t even cooked, and didn’t even have any sauce on them, and he didn’t have any fries. His ribs were ice cold and were so hard that you couldn’t even cut them apart.
When she came back to check on us, we asked if she could have it warmed up, and she put her hand on Jeremy’s ribs to see if they were cold! Right then he decided that he wasn’t eating it. While we were sitting there waiting on her to come back, we noticed that the plate of cheese that they brought me to go with my fajitas was moldy. Then, she randomly brought out a bowl of French fries without any other food.
We told her that we didn’t want any of the food, and that we would pay for our drinks and chips and salsa. She went and got a manager and he apologized and gave us a “coupon” for a free meal. I’m not sure how we will actually use this “coupon”. He just wrote it on a card and gave it to us.
But, he didn’t charge us for anything but Jeremy’s tea. Which I thought was a little ridiculous. So after being there for almost an hour and a half, we left and went to Taco Mayo. It was late, and I had filled up on chips and salsa, so I just ordered one taco. I love their tacos! They are always so fresh, and the meat is really good. I also love the white corn crispy shells.
After we ate, we went to bed and slept in on Sunday. When I got up I went for a run to try out my new insoles. I’m not sure about them yet, but I will try them out again and see what I think. I ran 3 miles and I had to go slow to try to adjust to the insoles.
On my run, I had to spray the dog that bit me in April. It came at me again and wouldn’t stop. I yelled at it several times and it still kept coming. I sprayed the pepper spray at it. I don’t think it got on it because it didn’t whine or roll around or anything. But it stopped and just sat on the side of road and watched me for a little while. Then it went back to it’s yard and watched me from there. I didn’t want to spray it, but I was really scared it was going to bite me again. It came across 2 yards to get to me and was barking and growling. I really would have felt bad if I sprayed it and it hurt it, but I guess I just scared it enough to make it stop. Hopefully it will leave me alone from now on.
After my run, I ate some turkey wraps. I used 4 pieces of thin sliced turkey, 1 piece of white cheddar cheese, and a pickle on each one. I usually use pickle spears, but I was out.
Then I took Jake for a long walk and I picked up a bucket full of pecans!
Then I spent the rest of the day relaxing!
What did you do this weekend?
I’ve done pretty much nothing this week! I have been a little under the weather this week. The strep throat I had last weekend turned into a sinus infection, so all I have really wanted to do is just close my eyes! It always makes me feel so tired, but I can’t sleep! Plus, if I don’t catch it early, this time of year a simple cold or sinus infection will always turn into a really serious respiratory infection. And then I’m down for a long time. So, I caught up on my shows (NCIS: Los Angeles and Law and Order: SVU) on the DVR and have spent a lot of time resting and napping trying to get well. I’ve also been drinking a ton of extra water and taking lots of vitamin C!
I have really tried to eat healthy. I haven’t had much of an appetite, but when I am hungry I’m craving things like hamburgers and donuts. I don’t know why I do that when I’m sick. But, I resisted and have eaten yogurt and granola bars. I also had a peanut butter (with real peanut butter) and jelly sandwich for lunch one day. That’s comfort food for me! Jeremy made me a grilled cheese one night, and ham and eggs another night. I’m not real big on ham, but I ate a little bit and it was good.
I found a new game on the app store and it is really addicting. You should try it out. It’s called 1010! It’s kind of like Tetris but instead of the pieces falling, you have to strategically place them on the board to try and clear lines. I like it!
My insoles for my shoes came in, but I have not felt like running. I did try them out and take Jake for a walk. They were really comfortable and I’m excited to get to run in them! As per my doctor’s recommendation, I got the orthotics for my running shoes, and the other pair for my regular tennis shoes.
I have noticed this week that I have had very little pain!! I’m so excited about that! I woke up yesterday feeling much better than I had all week, so I’m hoping this weekend to get out and get a couple of runs in.
Yesterday when I woke up, I felt really good! I took Jake for a walk, and I was surprised at how hot it was. It was 91 degrees at 11 am! This is October – where is the fall weather!?!? At least it looks like it’s coming soon.
On our walk, I noticed that the trees are finally starting to change colors a little bit. The reds and yellows are really pretty.
We walked for almost an hour, and I was sweating!!
After our walk, we went home and had lunch and got ready to go hunting. We are 15 days in to the hunting season, and we haven’t been one time! I was really excited!
We got to our blind around 4:00. We sat there until 7:30 and didn’t see anything! Partly because it was 95 degrees and partly because when it got cool enough for the deer to come out I had a coughing fit and couldn’t stop! But oh well, there’s always next time!
We are visiting some family this weekend and will probably be hunting some more. It will be a fun weekend!
What are your plans for the weekend?
