A Fast Week & A Birthday Celebration Weekend

Hey Friends!  Today is a very cold day, so I opted to stay inside all day and skip my run.  I’m trying to stay well!  I just finished meal prepping for the week.  I made the same lunch that I did last week.  We’re getting ready to watch the Super Bowl.  To be honest, I’m more excited about Justin Timberlake at half time than I am the actual game.  Before the game gets started, let’s get right into my recap!  more “A Fast Week & A Birthday Celebration Weekend”

Workouts, Runs, & Eats From This Week

Happy Monday Friends!  It is currently 5 am and I am sitting here sipping my morning Spark and finishing up this recap.  I had it almost ready to go last night and I just could not keep my eyes open anymore.  This past week was filled with some really good workouts, runs, and lots of good healthy food!  Most of the time I eat my meals on repeat and it was no different this week.  more “Workouts, Runs, & Eats From This Week”

My Week So Far

My week so far run and live happy

Hello Everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  Let’s catch up on what I’ve been doing so far this week.

Monday morning when I woke up, I was full of energy!  We were in bed by 8 on Sunday night, and I was asleep before 10.  I wish I could sleep that much every night!  I didn’t want oatmeal for breakfast, so I ran through McDonald’s and picked up 2 yogurts.  I ate one Monday, and saved the other for breakfast on Tuesday.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (6)

For lunch, I had a grilled chicken salad.  I made it with kale, spinach, onions, and Skinny Girl balsamic dressing.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (2)

I also tried the Margaritaville Pina Colada trail mix.  I was not a big fan of this one.  It had a really strong pina colada after taste.  That was about all you could taste, no matter which individual piece you ate.  I like the Coco Banana mix so much better.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (12)

After lunch I took Jake for an hour long walk.  It was a rest day from running, so we jogged a little, but I mostly just let him walk and sniff everything.

PicMonkey Collage1

I am going to start running him more.  He has put on some weight the last few months, and I need to get it off of him.  When we got back home, he wanted to play.  He has figured out that he likes empty toilet paper rolls, and he will stand and whine at it until you give it to him.  He has even started checking the bathrooms to see if there is an empty one in them!

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (1)

While he played with his toys (right in my way), I did some strength training and an ab workout.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (9)

I have a ton of them saved on Pinterest, so I thought I would finally start going through them and trying each one.  The one I did was from leanitup.com.  You can see it here.  It really worked my abs.  I also did 120 squats.

When Jeremy got home, we watched the National Championship game.  I really didn’t care who won, and I only halfway watched.  I was on Pinterest most of the time.  I fixed us some chili for dinner.  I like chili, but it always makes my stomach hurt, so I didn’t eat very much.  We tried the Margaritaville Sriracha trail mix, and it was disgusting!  I can’t even describe the taste, it was just spice.  It had pineapples in it, and they were gummy and spicy.  I didn’t really think it tasted like sriracha, it was just hot.  We threw the whole bag in the trash.

I ended up falling asleep before the game was over.  Monday night, I woke up at 2:30, 3:30, 4:45, and 5:30.  I finally gave up at 5:30 and just got up, so I was a little tired Tuesday morning.  I have always had a hard time sleeping.  I have a hard time going to sleep, and then I can’t stay asleep.  Every now and then I will take a Benadryl to help me, but even if I take it at 10, it usually wears off by 3 am and I’m wide awake.

I guess since I didn’t eat much dinner, I woke up hungry Tuesday morning.  I got out my yogurt, and stirred it around.  I noticed that it was a little watery, and when I took a bite and it was sour!  I found the sticker on the bottom of it, and it had expired on Saturday! (2 days before they sold it to me!)  So, I ate a granola bar instead.

Then for lunch, I fixed another grilled chicken salad, and this time I added roasted red peppers to it.  I also used Olive Garden Italian dressing on it instead of the balsamic.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (7)

After work, I got home and had time to take Jake for a walk.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (8)

It was such a beautiful day!  The temperature was 59 degrees!

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (10)

We ran a little bit, and then he played in the pasture.  He ran the fence with his friend.  They are cute, they lick each other through the fence.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (5)

Then we sat on the porch waiting for my dad to come get me.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (11)

I had planned on running after our walk, but I had to go with my dad to pick up my mom’s car.  She had to go to LA for work, and the girl she rode with to the airport lives in a nearby town about 40 minutes away.  So, we had to go get her car and bring it back home.  By the time we got back, it was dark outside.  So, I had to run on the treadmill.

my week so far run and live happy

I was scheduled to run 3 miles, but I only made it a mile and a half.  My foot started hurting a little, and I didn’t want to push it since I have 6 miles scheduled today.  I think it was hurting because I wore my Uggs on Monday.  I put insoles in them, but I guess it didn’t help.  🙁  But, that little bit of running that I did get in was so much better than any of my runs last week.  Hopefully that is a good sign for the rest of the week!

After my run, I fixed a spaghetti squash for dinner.  I tried this one with Alfredo sauce and I really liked it.  Then I settled in and watched Monday’s episode of the Bachelor.

My week so far run and live happy

Since I have been running, I have always used my iPhone to track my runs.  I tried RunKeeper, but it’s been so long ago, that I can’t remember why I didn’t like about it.  But for the last few years, I have been using Map My Run.  I like it, but I really want a Garmin.  I have been looking at the Garmin Forerunner 220.  I have never used a watch to run, but after reading about what it does, and reading the reviews on it.  I think this is the one I want.  Does anyone have this watch?  What are your thoughts on it?

The Week is Finally Over – Weekly Recap

Hi Everyone!  It’s been a really busy week.  But, I guess it always is right before Christmas!  This week did go by fast, but it was a very stressful week.  This was basketball tournament week around our area.  So, that meant that Jeremy had games every day and night this week.  Some days he did 6 games a day.  It’s just hard when he is gone when I get home from work, and then I am asleep when he gets home at night.  I feel like I saw him for about 30 minutes total this week.  So, here is what my week looked like.

I did a picture post about my Monday.  (You can see it here.)  It was a rest day from running.  So, I took a rest day from running and everything else!  I took Jake for a long walk, and then we hung out being lazy.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (10)

I was really hungry after our walk, so I made an omelet egg scramble with bacon and cheese, with a side of toast and hash browns.  Then, I relaxed and got caught up on Married at First Sight:  The First Year.  I love reality TV!

Tuesday morning I fixed some oatmeal for breakfast.  I was out of the instant packets I have been eating, so I made regular oatmeal with some brown sugar and dried cranberries.  For lunch I had another Smart Ones Chicken Parmesan.  That is probably my favorite right now.  Tuesday afternoon I was getting ready to take Jake for a walk and when we went outside, the most random thing was in our yard!!

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (3)

A potbelly pig!  I have begged Jeremy for a long time to get me one of these, but after seeing it, I think I have changed my mind.  It was cute, and really friendly.  But, it was weird.  Jake loved it!

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (1)

It came right up to him and was wagging it’s tail.  It walked all over our yard, and Jake just followed it.  I put Jake in the backyard, and the pig went to the fence trying to get in with him.  I got some corn and led it back down to the house that I think it lives at, and once it ate the corn, it came running back to our house.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (2)

When the pig finally went home, Jake and I went for a walk.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (7)

He got mad because when we got to the other side of the pasture, he could see all the puppies down the road, but they wouldn’t come to see him.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (11)

After I walked Jake, I went for a run.  I ran 3 miles.  Then I went home and ate a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, with a side of hash browns.  I am really liking hash browns lately.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (4)

Wednesday morning I fixed some oatmeal with a stevia packet and some mini chocolate chips in it.  And for lunch I finally tried the Fit and Active lasagna meal from Aldi.  It was not good!  It tasted as bad as it looks!  So not worth 97 cents.  I will not be eating this again.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (5)

Wednesday afternoon I ran a bunch of errands.  We had a new store open up in our town that sells name brand products that have been damaged or are dirty and can’t be sold in stores.  Jeremy wanted me to go by there because he heard they had a bunch of hunting stuff.   I went it, and it really stressed me out.  There were folding tables set up all over the building, and the tables had boxes on them overflowing with stuff.  None of it was organized or sorted.  It was kind of overwhelming.  I walked around for about 10 minutes and left.  I was on a mission to try and find Jeremy a new shirt to wear to his family Christmas next Saturday.  I went to the two stores in town that sell men’s clothing, but neither had anything he would wear.  One of them sells clothes for older men, and then we have a Rue 21, and he won’t wear anything in there.  I did not find him any shirts.

When I got home Wednesday afternoon, I ran 3 miles.  Then I took Jake for a walk.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (8)

This time a couple of the puppies came through the fence and played with him.  He loved it!  We really need to get him a friend.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (12)

I was planning on cooking dinner Wednesday night, but Jeremy had done 6 games that day and he ate at the gym.  Since he wasn’t hungry, I fixed me a grilled cheese and turkey sandwich.  Then I curled up in bed to play on Pinterest, but I fell asleep!

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (9)

Thursday morning when I woke up, I literally rolled out of the bed.  My body felt like I had been run over.  It hurt so bad everywhere.  My back was hurting, and the pain was going down through my hips and into my legs.  I hurt my back a couple of years ago, and every now and then it bothers me.  It usually doesn’t last long, and it isn’t very bad.  On top of that, my foot was hurting as well.  I took some ibuprofen and did some stretches that usually help my back.  I happened to look out the window while I was getting ready, and the sunrise was beautiful.  I immediately went outside to take a picture.  The pinks and purples were absolutely gorgeous!

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (14)

I was hoping that by later in the day, my body would quit hurting and I could run.  Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.  I hurt bad all day, so I decided that instead of running and risking getting hurt, I would take a rest day and hopefully it would make me feel better.

Since I wasn’t running, I went with Jeremy’s dad to Jeremy’s basketball games.  It was a tournament, and his games didn’t start until 7:30.

Watch the game and quit looking at me! :)
Watch the game and quit looking at me! 🙂

I didn’t have time to eat before we left, and I knew I wouldn’t eat when we got home because it would be so late.  I don’t like concession stand junk, so I had a couple of chocolate chip cookies instead.  😉  (I’m sure that’s not much better.)  They were baking them fresh in the lobby, and they smelled heavenly!  My father-in-law went to get us some, and he came back with 8 cookies!  There were delicious, but I stopped at 2.  We got home close to 11, and I went straight to bed.  I was tired, but couldn’t wind down, so I watched the new episode of Big Bang Theory and then I went to sleep.

I must have slept hard last night because when I woke up today I felt refreshed.  I wasn’t tired at all, and my body didn’t hurt!  I fixed some oatmeal with dried cranberries for breakfast.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (16)

Then for lunch I had the alfredo meal from Aldi.  It was pretty good.  I also had a small piece of strawberry cake at work.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (17)

While I was eating lunch, my friend texted me and asked if I wanted to go shopping with her tomorrow.  Of course I said yes!  She is the one we had the baby shower for last weekend.  She needs to go pick up some more baby stuff and get some Christmas shopping done.  While I was talking to her, I realized that I forgot her birthday.  It was Tuesday!!  I am the worst!  I feel awful!  So, we will celebrate with a girl’s day tomorrow!

I spent all afternoon making lists of stuff I need to do, and groceries I need to buy before next week.  I was starting to feel a little stress, but I felt better after I made my to do lists.  I will get a bunch of it taken care of tomorrow when my friend and I go shopping.

I had a good run today.  I finished just before dark.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (20)

Then , Jake and I went for a walk. The sunset was beautiful!

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (19)

I was starving after my run, so I fixed some eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (23)

I ate every bit of it!  And now I’m just talking to you nice people and trying to find something on TV to watch.  I think I need to get Netflix!

I have a busy weekend planned with shopping and hanging out.  And, I am looking forward to sleeping in on Sunday!

What are you doing this weekend?

Birthday Party!!

Yesterday was Jake’s birthday!  He’s 6 years old!

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

You will probably think I’m silly, but we always have a party for him and he loves getting presents!  I love to spoil him and see him get so excited!  On Monday night, Jeremy and I took Jake to my father-in-law’s house so we could go shopping for his presents.  I always get him a ton of toys at Dollar Tree because he tears them up quickly.  I got him a bunch of stuffed balls and stuffed animals.  We also went to the pet store and Jeremy bought him a new bed for “his” bedroom.  (Jake thinks our guest room is his room.)  I wrapped all of his presents in tissue paper, so he could tear them open!

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (7)

Then, we picked out his birthday “cake”.  Crème Brulee pupcakes – only the best for my puppy!

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (1)

We also got him some peanut butter cookies and a shortbread cookie.  (We won’t give him all of these at once.)

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (5)

On Tuesday, Jeremy had to work late, so I baked him a cake (to have for Jake’s birthday party).  I love to bake, but I don’t do it very often, because we don’t need the sweets.  And it is just a temptation having it in the house.  We usually eat one or two pieces and then take the rest to Jeremy’s dad, because I have no self control around sweets!  But anyways, Jeremy has been wanting a German chocolate cake.  So, that’s what I made.

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (8)

Jake got a bath yesterday, and while he was at the groomers we set up his new bed.  When he got home that afternoon, I took him for a walk.  Then, last night we had his party! He was so excited, and ripped into all of his presents.  He will rip a hole in one, and then go on to the next one.

PicMonkey Collage6

Then he went from one toy to the other checking them all out.

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (10)

He also tried out his new bed!

A Birthday Party! New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (11)

Then, we gave him his “pupcake”.  He loved it!!

After all of that, he was pooped!  He wanted to play with his toys, but he was too tired.

Do You Like Dogs?

If you like dogs, then keep reading!  Or you could just keep reading anyways!  This is going to be a long post, but my dog is one of the most important things in my life.  Getting him was the best decision we ever made!  So, this post is dedicated to Jake.

Race

When we started thinking about getting a dog, we weren’t sure if we wanted one yet or not.  We lived in an apartment, and we didn’t have a fenced yard.  But, Jeremy was working a lot at night, and I didn’t like being alone so we decided to get one.  We found a breeder a few hours away from us, and contacted them.  They had their dogs set up on webcams so you could look at the puppies.  We picked one out, but we wanted to go see it in person.  So, we went for a visit when the puppies were about 3 weeks old.  At that time Jake was named “Puppy 4”.  When I first held him, I knew that he was the one.  He nuzzled into me and just slept in my arms.  It was so hard to leave him for another 3 weeks.

Puppy 4

On the day we went to pick him up, we were so excited.  We got there and they handed him to me.  We went to leave and they told us that he had never been outside before.  I took him out and set him on the grass, and it was so funny watching him sniff everything and walk around so gently.  On the ride home, he slept on my lap.

jake (44)

That night that we got home, we woke up in the middle of the night and he was throwing up.  He threw up all night, and I cried and cried.  There was nothing we could do to help him, and I was so scared that something was seriously wrong with him.  The next morning, we took him to the vet’s office as soon as they opened.  They checked him out and said he was fine.  They figured it was just the stress of him leaving his mom and riding in a car for so long.  We took him home and I held him all day and he was fine.

jake (40)

I have so many funny stories about Jake.  He is such a ray of sunshine in our lives.  The first one that I want to share is that when he was little, he would sleep in the bed with us and he would sleep across the tops of our pillows.  One morning, I left for work and he was lying on Jeremy’s pillow sleeping with him.  Jeremy called me later and said that when he woke up he was covered in sheet rock.  Jake had started licking the wall, and had licked and chewed a hole in it and Jeremy never woke up!  I wish we have taken a picture of it!  It was hilarious!  That was the only thing that Jake has ever chewed up.  People never believe us when we tell them that because he is a lab.

jake (15)

Jake loves the water!  As a puppy, we couldn’t keep him out of it.  If I tried to take a bath, I would have to close the door or he would jump in with me.  Several times I would start the water and come back to find him in the tub turning in circles and digging in the water.  He will dig and shoot water all over the walls.

jake (58)

The funniest one to me though is that when we leave and Jake gets mad that we’re gone, he will find dirty clothes or my kitchen towel and drag them out all over the house.  He won’t chew any of the up, but he will get it all out.  He does this when he stays with my father in law.  He has a doggie door there, and one day we came home and he had gotten 8 hats and a whole bunch of socks and took them outside.

Jake Socks

When we got Jake, we didn’t want to leave him in a crate all day.  Luckily, Jeremy works for himself, so he would take Jake everywhere with him.  He sits in the front seat just like a person does and just watches out the window.  People all over town loved him!  The bank, the cleaners, the gas station – they would all get excited when he came through because they thought it was so funny how he just sat in the truck.  And of course, Jake loved the attention!

My love

Jake also loves kids!  Anytime our cousin comes to stay, Jake wants to sleep with him and he follows him around everywhere.  I was babysitting one of my friend’s babies one time.  She was around 8 months old.  Jake sat right next to her carrier and just watched her.  If she made noises, he would cock his head to the side.  If she cried, he wanted to lick her.  The whole time she was there, he never left her side.  He will be a good big brother when we have kids.

jake (1)

This summer, our local animal shelter hosted a race to raise money for the shelter.  They had a dog run, so we took Jake.  They had swimming pools set up at the finish line.  Jake was the only dog that would get in them.  The others would just drink from them, but Jake tried out all of the pools before he found the right one.  This was the third year that Jake has gone to this race.  The dog part is not a race, but Jake thinks it is.  As soon as they sound the horn to go, he takes off full speed until he crosses the finish line.  The other dogs just walk or jog, but Jake thinks he needs to win.  He must get that from me!  This summer it was way too hot for him, so we didn’t let him run because we didn’t want him to get sick. (The picture is last summer)

Race

I love it when he gets excited and runs around with his butt tucked under.  He will run in circles until he is tired and just flops down on the floor.  We laugh so hard at him when he does that.  He is very entertaining.

jake (11)

He is so full of energy and personality.  He is such a happy dog and is always wagging his tail and wanting someone’s attention.  He never meets a stranger and he is so friendly.  He is so smart.  He knows what we are saying when we talk to him.  He also knows where his treats are, and he will sit in front of the cabinet and bark at us if he wants one.  He may be a little lot spoiled!  But, I want to make sure he is happy and healthy.  I want him to be around for a long time!

What is wrong with people??

Ok, I am on a little bit of a rant today. But before I get to that, I had a fairly good run yesterday, it was just way too hot.

Before my run
Before my run

What is wrong with people??

The last time I tried to run in the heat I got sick. But, yesterday I thought I could make it because it was a little overcast, but that didn’t last long.

What is wrong with people??

I ended up walking more than running, but that’s ok. When I first started it was overcast and there was a breeze blowing. I started out strong until the sun came back out and was beating down on me. It just gets so hot that it is really hard to breathe.

What is wrong with people??

So, I slowed to a jog and then eventually to a walk.

What is wrong with people??

I was listening to the Undisclosed podcast Episode 4. It is an hour long, and my plan was to run for the whole thing. I made it about half way through it.

What is wrong with people??
While I was running, one of my neighbors pulled out of his driveway and stopped to tell me that his car was saying it was 102 degrees in the shade and he wanted to know why I was out in this heat? He was really concerned that I would get too hot. I thought it was very nice of him to stop.

My little bit of shade!
My little bit of shade!

I noticed that the leaves are falling, but they are just dead from the ridiculous heat!  I can’t wait until they turn red and orange.

What is wrong with people??
I made it 2.75 miles, and I started feeling a little sick, so I didn’t want to push it for that last quarter mile. After I went home and iced my leg and rested for a little bit, I took Jake for a walk.  He made a new friend. 🙂

What is wrong with people??

Hopefully (fingers crossed) yesterday was the last hot day of the year. There is supposed to be a cool front coming in. The weather for the rest of the week is looking substantially cooler than it has been, and I’m excited!

What is wrong with people??
Ok, now back to my rant – What is wrong with people? When you have a dog, why would you let it roam free? I have been running the same little road for three years and have never had any trouble with dogs until this year. Back at the end of April, I got bit by a little dog. It belonged to a family that lived down the street from me, the owner is actually a sheriff deputy. It had barked at me before and it would chase me and when I yelled at it, it would stop. It was almost like a game. But this time, it came running and barking very aggressively. I yelled and it didn’t stop. It lunged at me and got the back of my knee and I kicked at it. Then it got my calf and latched on. It hurt so bad!! I kicked it off, and then of course I felt bad, but I was MAD!! I ran home and had blood running all down the back of my leg. We got it cleaned up and went down to the owner’s house. (it didn’t look that bad once it was cleaned up – but it sure hurt!)

What is wrong with people??

The woman came to the door holding it and that little monster was acting all innocent and sweet. It didn’t even bark. I showed her my leg and told her what it did, and she seriously didn’t even apologize!! She just said that she had noticed it had been a little more aggressive lately. Jeremy asked if it had had it’s shots and she said yes, but she wouldn’t let us see any proof.

We left, and Jeremy was planning on going back when her husband was home to talk to him. We went home and called the after hours clinic to find out if I needed a shot of some kind. They told me that I needed a tetanus shot, but that they couldn’t treat me. They said I would have to go to the ER. And, they told me that the ER wouldn’t treat me unless I made a report. We were going out of town for the afternoon so I didn’t have time to go to the ER.
The next day, it was really swollen, red, and bruised. So, I called the ER to find out what I needed to do. They told me the same thing that I would have to make a report. I didn’t want to make anyone mad, because I didn’t want anyone to do anything to harm my dog. That may be an irrational fear, but I still just didn’t want to make them mad. But, because it was so sore and swollen, I called the sheriff’s office to make a report. I explained that to them what had happened and they said they would send someone right out. Another deputy showed up and I told him I didn’t want to make the report, I just needed to get a shot. He said they sent him because they thought it was the deputy’s police dog that bit me. When I told him no, he said that he couldn’t make a report, that I would have to call the health department.

So, to make a long story short, this dragged out over 2 days before I finally was able to find out that the dog had had it’s rabies shots. I was advised to get a tetanus shot, but I was running a half marathon that weekend and didn’t want to have any side effects. And, thankfully, I’ve been fine!
After this happened, Jeremy bought me some pepper spray to start carrying with me. And, good thing he did because the people at the end of the road suddenly got a Doberman and it chased me one day. (They already have about 8 weenie dogs) They just let it roam free in the front yard. I don’t understand this at all! Especially when there are older women that walk up and down that road in the evenings, why would you let aggressive dogs roam free?

What is wrong with people??

My dog would never bite anyone, and has never been aggressive towards anyone or anything. He may lick you to death, but he isn’t going to hurt you. But I would still not let him roam free. I wouldn’t take that chance of him hurting someone.

What is wrong with people??

So, again, my question is what is wrong with people and why do they think it’s okay to have dogs but not keep them in fenced yards?

I get really tired of carrying pepper spray when I run. I’m afraid to clip it on me because I think if I need it, I may not have time to get it off my pants. So, I carry it and it is really annoying. What brought all of this about today is that both dogs were out roaming yesterday. That little one chased me again, but thankfully this time it stopped when I yelled at it. The Doberman was out, but it just watched me. I just don’t understand. Hopefully I will never have to use the pepper spray on them, but I won’t hesitate if they come after me. Maybe if that happens their owners will learn to put them in the back yard.

That’s enough of my rant for now.

What makes you mad?
