Vacation in the Bahamas

Hey Guys!!  This isn’t my typical weekly wrap, but I wanted you to know why I’ve been so quiet for a couple of weeks.  If you read my last post, you know part of the reason, but the other part is because we have been in the Bahamas!!!  We had such an incredible time,  and did so many fun things, and I cannot wait to share it all with you!  Since we did so much, I’m going to have to break it up into several posts so you’re not reading for hours! (You’re welcome! 🙂 )

We take a vacation every year for our anniversary.  This was number 8 for us!  This year we went to Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, Bahamas.  This has been a bucket list destination for me FOREVER!  It’s always soooo expensive, but by chance I found it on sale for waaay cheaper than usual back in February and we didn’t think twice about booking it.  It was by far, the most beautiful place I have ever seen.  For this post today, I’m going to start with our first day of vacation, Tuesday the 18th

(P.S. I got my boot five days before we left, but decided not to wear it on vacation.  The doctor said that was my choice, and he didn’t blame me, and gave me some anti-inflammatories.  It was painful without it, but there was no way I could have enjoyed myself with it on. Actually, I think it just went numb during the day, because it kept me up all night! But it was totally worth it!!)

We had a 6:00 am flight out of Tulsa, so we got up at 2:15 am, had some Spark, and were at the airport by 4.  I know it was early since Tulsa’s airport is tiny, but there is only one flight into Georgetown, Bahamas each day, so if we missed it we could’ve missed our entire trip.

Of course, even the airports were eventful.  Going through security I set off the scanner.  I had to be searched and patted down.  The lady had no idea what set it off.  It was something showing on my back??  But, she sure searched me good.  After that, we had a smooth flight to Atlanta.  Once we got there, we only had 40 minutes to get from Terminal A to Terminal F to catch our flight.  We barely made it! Partly because I’m slower now due to my foot.   It was the smallest plane we had ever been on.  It only had 50 seats – 2 on each side of the aisle. The plane was so small that they wouldn’t let us take our carry-on’s onboard.  I was really nervous because I don’t like flying very much, but I was surprised at how smooth it actually was.  The take off and landing were so much better than the big planes.

We landed in Georgetown at 1:15, and we had to get off on the tarmac.

We’ve done this in the Domican, but this airport was the smallest I have ever seen.

Customs and baggage claim were in one small room.  There were two booths and a hole in the wall where they just tossed the bags in.  (Since it was in the same room as customs, I couldn’t take a picture.)  Once we got our bag, we were on our way!

The drive to Sandals was only 10 minutes.  Pulling in, the property was beautiful!

Check in was super quick and we were in our room fast.  We were on the second floor and had a great view of the ocean.

We spent a quick minute checking out our room and then were out the door and on the beach!  The beach was stunning!  And huge!

The sand was thick and like powder.  It was hard to walk in, but it sure was pretty!

Since we were returning guests, we were invited to a private dinner that night at 6:00.  We only stayed out for a couple of hours so we would have time to get ready for dinner.  This was a fancy dinner with a cocktail meet and greet party right before.

The dinner was in the ballroom and it was set with white tablecloths and white chair covers.  The tables all had candles on them.  A Bahamian band led us into the ballroom.

Once we were taken into the ballroom, we found a table to sit at.  There were four other couples at our table.  As soon as everyone was seated, they started serving us.  (I want to throw this out there – there is going to be a TON of food on these posts.  We did not eat all of it.  Their food is so rich and unlike anything that we normally eat.  So, even though it is really good, it’s hard to eat a lot of it.  It seriously makes your stomach sooooo bloated.  We sampled a lot of different things!)

I don’t know if it was just because we hadn’t hardly eaten anything all day, but the food at dinner was AH-MAZING!!  The first course was a yellow bell pepper soup.  I scarfed it down!

The next course was a Caesar salad.  (Sorry for the picture quality.  I was trying to use my digital camera and the candle light would not cooperate!)

The entrée was steak, stuffed chicken, and salmon.  I traded my steak for Jeremy’s salmon.  I did not care for the stuffing in the chicken, so I didn’t eat that.  But, I was full from two servings of salmon and all of the veggies.  I hardly ever eat potatoes, but Jeremy told me that I had to try what we were served.  I think I could have eaten an entire bowl of those!  Seriously, they were divine!  (And I guess I forgot to take a picture. 🙁 )

The service at dinner was really slow, and we were getting really tired sitting there.  We decided to skip out before dessert.  We headed back to our room to finish unpacking and get some sleep.

I was up early the next morning and ready to go!  We went to breakfast at the buffet first.  They have an omelet station and you can get anything in them that you want!  You can actually get eggs cooked anyway you want.  I had scrambled eggs a couple of days.  The cook is awesome and she’s fun to watch too.  She’ll have 6 or 7 skillets going at once – on all the burners and in that brick oven!

I ordered an omelet with bell peppers and cheese.  It was HUGE, and I could not eat all of it.  I also tried a bite of French toast.  It was cold and not good.

We were still a little tired from the day before, so we just relaxed at pool all morning.

I was super excited about all of the flavored water coolers that they had all over the resort!  This was my favorite and it had the same fruit in it every day that we were there!  I probably drank a whole cooler every day! (The water that they served you was not safe to drink.  It smelled like sewer.  So you had to drink bottled water from your room or the water in these coolers.)

For lunch we wanted to try the Jerk Shack and also a pizza.  They have the best pizzas!  Jeremy ordered some jerk chicken and sausage.  The chicken was good, but we did not care for the sausage.

And we had a meat lover’s pizza.

It was pretty cheesy. 😉

Then we headed down to the beach for a bit.  We didn’t spend as much time on the beach during our trip as I would have liked, but it was so hard for me to walk in the sand and the beach was huge so it was a trek down to the water.

When we came back up from the beach, we decided to check out the dessert café.  The choices were enticing, there were too many to choose from!  They had all kinds of treats, coffees, teas, crepes, and ice cream.  It was awesome, and it was open all day! I was super excited about that!  LOL

We chose a few pastries to share.  We had a coconut macaroon, a chocolate cream puff, and some kind of layer bar that tasted like a lemon bar.

This night was white night.  Everyone wears white and they have a chocolate buffet.  Since we were dressed up for that, I wanted to have some professional pictures taken.  Here’s a few of them: (Those shoes were only on for pictures and then I changed!  I could not walk in them! LOL)

We headed to dinner at Il Cielo, the Italian restaurant.

This was our only really frustrating experience with the resort staff while we were there.  We were seated at 7:45 and within 10 minutes had our appetizers.  Our waitress would not come back to our table after that.  Jeremy kept having to get up and get us our own drinks.  I caught our waitress as she was walking by at 8:35 and asked her if our food would be coming out soon because we wanted to go to the chocolate buffet at 9.  She laughed and said we had plenty of time, and just kept walking.  By 9:15 we still had no food and there was only one other couple sitting in there at that point.  We got up and left.  Our waitress chased us down to see why we were leaving, and we explained that we still hadn’t eaten yet.  She said she would go check on our food.  We told her not to worry about and we headed to the chocolate party.  (A manager did come find us and apologize and offered to have dinner fixed for us right then.  We declined and enjoyed the chocolate party.)  They had a bunch of little chocolate pastries.

We tried a few, which were heavenly, especially the strawberry and white chocolate mousse!  Oh my!!  We decided to go to the pub to have some actual food. (It was all that was open after 9.)

We shared a burger and fries.  And again…more potatoes…but those fries were to die for!

This place ended up being our favorite place to eat and hangout.  We were in there every night!

When we finished eating, we played a little pool.  We met some new friends, Julianne and Rich, and ended up staying till after midnight playing pool and hanging out with them.

And the fun is just getting started!  On Thursday, we took a trip off the resort.  It was an all day event, so I’ll put it in a separate post.  Make sure you come back and check it out!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

That water!! I can see why you would want to go there. I’ve never been to a resort like that. Is your stay all inclusive (food, drinks, etc)? I’d love to learn more about it!

You should go! Everything is included – all the food and drinks you want 24/7. It’s awesome to not have to worry about carrying money around or about how much more we’re going to spend when we get there. And, it gives you the chance to try lots of different foods that you might not normally. It’s great!!

Wow, that sand and water look so pretty! You mentioned that the water was not safe to drink but yet it was served to you during your meals? I don’t understand why the resort would do that?

Everywhere we have been serves us water. We just either ask for a bottle or bring our own from our room. And, it could have been fine, but it just had a really strong smell and I was not going to chance getting sick.

I did see your IG picture, and I know walking in a boot in quite frustrating. I needed foot surgery my senior year in college, and my parents were taking me to Italy after graduation. I made sure the surgery was early enough so I wasn’t in a boot at all for the trip. I couldn’t really wear anything fancy, but I wasn’t in a boot!

That chocolate bar looks amazing. I know if I was wearing white, I’d also be wearing pieces of chocolate. Tide pens are saviors.

That would’ve really stunk if you had to wear that boot in Italy! Good thing you got the surgery done early! There was no way that I was wearing it on vacation. I only got to wear flip flops with all of my dresses, but they are a really comfortable pair and we didn’t have to walk too far from our room to everything. LOL The first time we went to the chocolate buffet a couple years ago, Jeremy tried the fountain first and had chocolate all down his white shirt! He didn’t think it was as funny as I did. Luckily the resort was able to wash his shirt and get the stain out.

Looks like you had a fantastic time. I have been to a Sandals resort in Jamaica. They are fabulous!

This was the best Sandals that we have been to. But, the beach and water made it all 1000 times better! Which one did you go to? We’ve been to a couple in Jamaica.
