Runs, Walks, and a Vacation

Hey Guys!  Thanks for stopping by this week’s recap!  I had a fun week and even had a little vacation.  I’m all about little get-a-ways.  Next week, make sure you stop by and join me as I host the Weekly Wrap up for Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippi Piddlin!  I’m excited and can’t wait to see all of you next week!  But, let’s get caught up with this week first.

On Monday, it was supposed to rain all day.  Luckily, that turned into several different rain showers so I was able to run and get lots of walking in.  I started my day with some Spark and a banana and took Jake for a walk.  Then I headed out for a run.

I ran 4 miles and got rained on twice.  And it felt awesome!  It was so humid, which made it hard to breathe, and within the first couple of minutes I was drenched in sweat.  The rain felt amazing!!  By the time I got done, it had stopped raining, so I took Jake on his second walk of the day.  He sat at the front door and watched the rain all day.  Whenever it would stop, I took him for a walk and he ended up with two more walks later in the afternoon.  I ended with 8 miles for the whole day.

Monday night we made carne asada and pollo asada.  It was our first time making it, so we didn’t know how it would turn out.

Jeremy went out to turn the grill on.  He opened it and before he could turn it on, Max jumped right up on it and laid down.  Jeremy isn’t a big cat person, so he called me to come move him!  I don’t think he appreciated me laughing hysterically at him.  But, it’s so funny that cats are drawn to him since he does not like them at all!

Our dinner turned out really good.  We will make it again, and when we do I’ll take pictures and post how we did it.

Tuesday morning I got up and got ready to run.  But, as soon as I walked outside I knew that there was no way I would be running.  It was around 8:30 and it was already close to 90 degrees.  It was way too hot!  So, I found a Jillian Michaels video online and did that.  I did the six weeks six pack video.  It was pretty tough, but I like feeling like I’ve actually done something when I get finished with a workout!

Lunch today was leftover chicken and some yogurt and chocolate cheerios.

I took Jake on several short walks since it was so hot.  He can’t handle the heat too well, so we kept them short.  Later in the evening when it cooled down, we went on a long walk.  He was super tired afterwards!

Dinner was grilled turkey sausages and baked sweet potato fries.

Wednesday morning I got up at 7, so I could get a run in before it got too hot.  But, the joke was on me because it didn’t get above 82 all day.  I should have checked the weather.  But, I got my run done early.  By the time I had some Spark and a banana and was ready to go, it was 7:30.  I had actually debated heading into town to run at the park, but had decided against it and thought I would just get a quick run in at home.  If I’m running anything over 4 miles, I go to town to do it, so I don’t have to run up and down a dead end road a million times.  It’s a quarter mile long side road.  I just run up and down it. I had just headed down my normal road, when some workers showed up and were going to blacktop the road.  I was a little annoyed, but turned around and ran over to another side road (another dead end).  I got in a couple of miles there and a tree company showed up and closed off the road so they could cut limbs out of the power lines.  Seriously!  I ran back to my house and that turned out to be three miles, so I called it good.

After my run, I decided to brush Jake.  He is shedding so bad since the temperatures are heating up.  I brushed him for 10 minutes and he had so much hair that it filled up a small trash sack!

That’s just crazy to me how one dog can have soooooo much hair!  Since it was so nice out, we sat outside for most of the morning.

I really didn’t do much on Wednesday besides walking Jake and working on some blogging stuff. Jeremy worked late Wednesday night, so I fixed us some tacos for dinner.  It’s so quick and easy.

Breakfast Thursday was Spark, yogurt, half a banana, and chocolate cheerios.

I did a quick strength training circuit and then started packing.  We were going to Norman for the weekend.  Jeremy was working a basketball camp at OU, and I was going to treat myself to a little shopping!

We got there late in the afternoon, dropped off our bags at our cousin’s house, and went our separate ways.  Jeremy headed to a meeting and I headed to the mall.  I walked around the mall until I had in 3 miles.  I bought a couple of shirts and some new shorts.  Then, I picked up some sushi on my way back to the house!  I love sushi, and Mr. Sushi has the best!  I had two pieces of salmon sashimi and half of a salmon teriyaki roll.

After Jeremy’s meeting, he had a dinner to go to, so our cousin took me to try out this new ice cream place on Campus Corner.  It was called Baked Bear.  They make ice cream sandwiches out of fresh baked cookies and then they put them in a hot press like a panini.

You can choose your flavor of cookie, ice cream, and any toppings that you want.  They also had a donut sandwich and brownie sandwich.  I just had a chocolate chip cookie, but this is what our cousin’s sandwich looked like.  He ordered gluten free chocolate chip cookies, chocolate ice cream, and hot fudge on top.  He said it was really good!

Jeremy had to be on campus at 6:30 Friday morning.  After his alarms (yes plural!) rang I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I got around early (with the help of some Spark) and headed out for a day of shopping.  I had two specific things in mind, and I struck out with both of them.  I wanted a couple of new swimsuit tops and some new dresses for vacation.  I guess I am too picky, but I just didn’t find anything that I really liked.  I shopped until I was super hungry and knew I had to eat.  I went to CoolGreens and had a salad.  My salad had spinach, romaine, carrots, cucumber, mango salsa, grilled chicken, avocado, poblano peppers, and southwest vinaigrette.  It was huge and I couldn’t even eat half of it!

After lunch, I treated myself to a much needed pedicure!  Then I went back to the house and sat around the pool for a little while.

Later that afternoon I met up with my friend Megan and her little boy.  Her husband is also working the camp, so she came to town to hang out with me.  We shopped a little and then went to Ted’s to eat dinner.  I ordered the Monterey chicken wrap.  It had grilled chicken, onions, peppers, and cheese.  It was probably one of my favorite dishes that I have ever eaten there!

After dinner, I headed back to the house and played with Sally while I waited on my stomach to settle.  This is the sweetest dog.  Anytime you sit down, she crawls in your lap and just wants to be close to you.

Then, I ran 3 miles on the treadmill.  This was a challenge because my stomach felt so full from dinner, and because I was bored after the first minute.  I hate running on the treadmill!

Saturday morning I had some Spark and a Lean Bar for breakfast.  Jeremy didn’t have to be there so early today, but I still couldn’t go back to sleep after all his alarms rang.  He is such a heavy sleeper that he never hears them. But I do….

I hung around the house until lunch and I went and met Megan at Pei Wei.  I had never eaten there before.  I tried the Vietnamese Chicken Salad Rolls.

Then, Megan and her son came over to swim and hang out! The weather was perfect and it felt awesome to just enjoy the sun!

After Megan left, Jeremy and I went to eat dinner at Logan’s Road House. I ordered a steak, sweet potato, and salad.  The salad was drenched in dressing so I couldn’t eat it. Jeremy ate most of my steak cause I wasn’t too impressed, but that sweet potato was awesome! It was the biggest I have ever seen!

This morning I got up and walked Sally. It was so nice out and I enjoyed looking at the neighborhood.

After that, I packed up and when Jeremy got done we headed back home.

Make sure you join me next when I host the Weekly Wrap Up!

LOL Lucky for me I can’t eat ice cream, or I know I would’ve had a huge sandwich with lots of toppings! It did look really good!

My husband’s alarm wakes me too! He doesn’t understand why I can’t just fall back to sleep. I wish I could…

I wish I could too… LOL I hate alarms with a passion and I am always up before mine goes off. I just hate being startled. So, when I hear one, I can’t ever go back to sleep!

OMG all that yummy food! And sweet dogs! My husband was just commenting this was an unusual vacation because we didn’t have sushi. 🙂

Bandit sheds pretty fiercely, but not that much, thank goodness!

That ice cream shop sounds brilliant! My mom and I made ice cream sandwiches with freshly made cookies once, but a shop that does that? It sounds like heaven. Definitely a good treat to have once in a while.

I need to make my husband some ice cream sandwiches at home. I’ve never thought about doing that, but I bet he’d love it! The hot press was what was most impressive. The ice cream didn’t melt at all!

I tried one the other day (the maple donut), and it is actually a candy bar- even more so than quest bars. It’s sooo good! That baked bear ice cream looks phenom too!!
