Hey Guys! I just had a really fun weekend! We had a little overnight stay in Oklahoma City and I got to do some shopping! And, even more importantly, I got new running shoes! It was a nice getaway. I didn’t do a recap last week because it was a really boring week. So I know I owe you one! I’ll get you caught up now on what I’ve been up to this past week. This is a long one, so grab a cup of coffee and get ready!
After the OKC Half Marathon, I spent the week resting and recovering. My feet were super sore so I stayed off of them – actually, sore is an understatement, I was in a lot of a pain. So much pain that for two full days I could barely put any pressure on my right foot. But, I stayed off of them as much as possible and iced them every night and by Thursday they felt a lot better.
Last Sunday we worked in our garden and got it planted. We planted some okra, lots of different peppers, zucchini, squash, and some cilantro. We are still going to plant some more stuff, but we got a good start. Jeremy’s aunt and uncle also bought me some flowers for my flowerbeds as an early birthday present and she even planted them for me!!
I’m not kidding when I say I have a black thumb! I cannot seem to keep anything alive, no matter how hard I try! Then Jeremy rode Jessie around – it’s been awhile since we’ve ridden her.
By the time we went home, I was tired and didn’t really want to meal prep. So I threw together a quick lunch. I had a chopped kale salad package and some chicken tenders. I laid the tenders on a sheet tray, seasoned them with random seasonings – some of them were with Cavendars, some with Mrs. Dash Southwestern seasoning, and some with garlic and Italian herbs. I baked them at 350 for 20 minutes. Then I threw it all in containers and called it good! It took less than 30 minutes to do!
Monday morning I had yogurt with strawberries and Special K on top and a green tea for breakfast. When I got off work, it was pretty hot out, but I wanted to get in a run. After the race, I couldn’t wear my new shoes anymore, so I found a pair of old shoes that didn’t look too bad (read: still had tread on the bottom) and headed out. It was almost 90, and I got hot really fast! I ran 3 miles and headed home to do some arms and abs. I held a plank for 2:23.44! I was shaking! I want to build up and see how long I can hold one.
I had some company on my run. This is Gallagher. He is a retired drug dog that lives down the road from me, and he joins me every now and then. He used to bark at me and kind of scare me, but he is really just a big teddy bear.
After my workout, I took Jake on a walk to see Jessie. We moved her to our pasture down the road from us and it makes me sad. I know she has a whole lot more room to run around, but I like her being right across the street so I can look out the window and see her and know that she’s okay. She was excited to see me and Jake. She also watched me the whole time I was running and made me feel sooo bad!
When Jake and I got home, I went to check the porch for any boxes, and I found this! LOL This cracked me up because there are snakes hanging there to keep the birds from building, but they obviously weren’t scared. They built that fast!
Jeremy was working late so he didn’t want me to cook anything for dinner. Jake laid there and watched for him to get home all evening.
I fixed this veggie pizza that I found at Aldi. It was sooooo good, like really really good!! I seriously could have probably eaten the whole thing! Maybe because it was good, or maybe because I was so hungry after running and working out. Either way, I loved it!
I woke up a little late on Tuesday morning. We stayed up too late on Monday night. I was reading a book. If you are looking for a new book, I just read the Waverly Bryson series. It was kind of a romantic comedy. There are four books in the series and I enjoyed it.
Breakfast and lunch were the same today. At work, our break room was full of muffins today. I don’t know why, but there were like a million of them in there and they were all kinds and sizes. There were blueberry, orange, lemon poppy seed, chocolate chip, and banana nut. I caved and ate one mini lemon poppy seed.
After work, I stopped at the grocery store and then headed to my grandparents. My grandma wasn’t feeling well, so I fixed dinner for her and my grandpa. I visited with them for a little bit while they ate before I headed home. When I got home, I saw my neighbor out running and I wanted to join her so bad! My foot was really hurting. I think from wearing flip flops all day. So I thought I might should take a rest day. But, you know me, and I couldn’t stay inside. I headed out and ended up having a horrible run! My foot was so sore and I made it just under 2 miles before I had to slow way down and even take several walk breaks to finish 3 miles. I went home and iced my foot immediately and while I was sitting there, I was scrolling on Pinterest and came across this picture. I thought it was my run exactly!
Tuesday night we were planning on cooking some steaks, but by the time we got ready to eat it was pretty late. We decided to order a pizza instead. I was really happy with that because I was exhausted! We tried Papa John’s again – because they are the only ones that will deliver out to us – and it was just okay. I am really not impressed with their pizza. It was at least cooked this time, but I really would have preferred a frozen pizza over theirs.
And again I stayed up reading until late, so Wednesday morning came early. I had a hard time dragging myself out of bed. Right before I got off work, a storm blew through. I didn’t even know it was supposed to rain. I was drinking my Spark when I heard the thunder. So, I decided that I would do a circuit workout instead. But, by the time I got home it was just sprinkling. I checked the weather and it showed that I had about an hour before it was supposed to start raining again so I hurried and changed and headed out. I had just started down the street, not even a quarter mile from my house, and it started raining. It wasn’t hard, and it was actually really refreshing! It was so hot and humid out, and the rain felt good so I kept going. It rained off and on the whole time. I had a great run in the rainy weather!
I ran 4 miles and then went home and did some strength training and abs. I held a plank for 2:45 today!
When the rain quit, Jake went outside to visit Max. Jake had a bath today, so he couldn’t stay out long – he likes to roll in the dirt after he has a bath!
We finally cooked our steaks and they were delicious! We had some small bacon wrapped fillets, and Jeremy also got a strip for himself. I baked him a potato and I fixed myself a frozen sweet potato steamer packet.
I finished my book today, but I had some work that I brought home to finish before Thursday and that took awhile. I should have gone to bed when I finally got it done, but we stayed up late catching up on Love At First Sight. I really like this season so far!
Thursday morning I had to start my day with some Spark! (If you’ve never tried Spark, it’s seriously worth every penny! It gives me so much energy and it kicks in almost immediately.) Staying up late the last few nights made it hard to get up. Today at work, someone set up a trail mix bar in our break room. I thought that was a really cute idea! I did fix a small bowl for an afternoon snack! I had banana chips, a few pretzels, cashews, chocolate chips, and dried cranberries in my mix.
After work I had a few errands to run, and then I went home to run, workout, and pack.
We were heading to Oklahoma City for the weekend. Jeremy was umpiring the high school baseball state tournament and I was going to get some new running shoes! That might have been what I was most excited about! 😉
When it got close to time for Jeremy to get home, Jake and I sat on the porch. He loves sitting there watching the cars.
When Jeremy got home, he surprised me with these.
I had told him that I saw them at Braum’s when I was getting my grandparent’s groceries on Tuesday. Since we had some leftover steak, he stopped and bought these for me. I seasoned them with some Lawry’s and garlic and we brushed some bar-b-que sauce on them when we grilled them. They were really good! But for the price, I could make my own and make a lot more than 2. I fixed a kale salad to go with them.
Friday morning we got up early to finish packing and head to OKC. Jeremy’s first games were in Shawnee. About an hour from us, and an hour from OKC. I dropped him off and headed to OKC to go get fitted for new shoes at Red Coyote Running.
I took my old ones and showed them to the people working. They both said the only thing that they knew to be different about the Ravenna 8 is that it has a ton more cushioning in it. They thought that might be why it is so much tighter than the 7’s. So, I tried on several different pairs and brands and I ended up with some Brooks Pure Cadence. You know I love my Brooks! Once I put these on, I was sold! They are so light and so comfortable. I couldn’t wait to try them out! I was the only one in there, so I was fitted and out the door in 15 minutes!
When I left there, I headed to the mall. I didn’t really have anything in mind that I needed, but I thought I would go shop for a little while and kill some time. Jeremy didn’t want me driving back to Shawnee since he would be coming to OKC anyways.
I walked through the mall and found this!
LOL I realized that I hadn’t eaten breakfast and by this time it was almost 2, so I was hungry! I didn’t really buy much at all. I found a new ring at Francesca’s and that’s it at the mall. I just really have to be in the mood to shop, and I wasn’t. I did find one dress in a window that I absolutely loved! I went in and was going to try it on but when I pulled it off the rack it was $160! Seriously! I just can’t spend that much on a dress!
I left the mall and hit up a couple of more stores. I ended up getting some new running shorts and a sports bra at TJ Maxx. I scored all of these for $40!
Then I headed to the hotel to check in. The state athletic association always puts us up at the Doubletree. It’s super nice!
I was starving, so I grabbed a wrap at their snack bar on the way up to the room. It was a chicken caeser salad wrap. I ate the chicken out of it because it had way to much dressing and cheese on it. And, of course I ate the warm cookie! (I swear I took pictures of the wrap, the cookie, and the room, but they have somehow mysteriously disappeared!) I tried to find something on TV, but couldn’t. I was really bored, so I decided to head down to the gym. They have a really nice gym with several treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and one weight machine. I was the only one in there, so I got my pick! I did some arms on the weight machine and then also with the free weights. Then I did some abs using the big ball. I also did some squats and lunges. I spent almost an hour in there before Jeremy called and said he was there.
We went to the room and quickly got ready and then met the other umpires down in the lobby. They hung out down there talking until everyone finally joined the group and we all walked next door to the Frosted Mug to eat dinner.
It was late, and I wasn’t that hungry so I told Jeremy to order whatever he wanted and I’d eat a little bit of it. He chose wings and a burger. I had one wing and two bites of the burger. The burger was really good, I just hate eating that late, and I really wasn’t very hungry.
We ended up staying there until almost midnight. Usually at baseball state tournament, the umpires don’t ever hang out together. Everyone is with their families. But, for some reason this year, they all got together. There were at least 20 of us at dinner. By the time we got back to the hotel, I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I headed up to bed (first I took a bath in their humongous bathtub!) and Jeremy hung out in the lobby with the guys until almost 1. I was not asleep when he got back, the room we had was awful! It coincidentally was the same room we had during basketball state tournament and I remembered when I tried to go to bed why I hated it so much. The ceiling sounds like it is going to fall in, and you can hear everything from the room above! And, whoever was up there was stomping back and forth across the room until almost 2 am! I kind of think it might be a storage room because last time I was woken up at 5 am and it sounded like furniture moving.
Saturday morning we got up around 9 and headed down to breakfast. We met another couple down there and then were slowly joined by several other umpires. They had added a lot more food to their breakfast bar since the last time we were there. They had eggs, eggs with peppers, onions, and tomatoes, sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, french toast, cinnamon rolls, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, cereals, and an assortment of pastries. I stuck with some eggs, a piece of sausage, and some fruit. (It was all included with our room!!)
After breakfast we checked out and headed to Jeremy’s game in Edmond.
It was sunny and hot and the perfect day to sit outside! I got a nice tan sitting out there! And some awful tan lines!
The game went really fast and we decided to head on home. We were both tired and didn’t feel like shopping and we didn’t want to get home too late. On the way out of town, we stopped to get a snack. I had some Spark and an energy bar to help me wake up!
Jake was so happy to see us when we got home. We brought him a toy and he loved it!
Later in the evening we went to eat dinner. It’s been a couple of weeks since we ate at our taco joint, so we were craving it. We shared some tacos. I had a fish taco and a chicken taco. They seriously have the best fish tacos that I have ever eaten!
Sunday morning, Jeremy headed to see his mom. I had plans with my mom and grandma later in the day, but we were afraid if I went to see Jeremy’s mom that we may not be back in time to see mine. So, I stayed home with Jake. We went on a walk to visit Jessie, and then we cleaned up the house and I worked on this post.
Later today, I am planning on going for a run to try out my new shoes, and then I am heading over to my parents for dinner with all my family.
