All About R.I.C.E.

This week was all about RICE!  That is not easy for me at all.  I tend to ignore aches and pains and keep pushing on.  But, I couldn’t ignore this.  I spent the first part of the week resting, icing, and elevating my feet while wearing compression socks.  So, this week was not a good one in terms of running.  But, it did get better towards the end, and my dad and I are planning a long run together next weekend.  

Lunches all week were ground turkey, green beans, roasted sweet potatoes, and a side of fruit. 

 

Monday

I had planned on a run after work.  But, my feet had hurt all day and when I got home and took my shoes off I realized why.  They were super swollen!  Although they had been hurting since Saturday, I hadn’t noticed them being swollen.  So, I took Jake on a quick walk and then came in and propped them up with some ice. 

Between icing, I did do an ab workout.  I had planned on starting a Fit Affinity 12 week program today, but the first exercise was jump squats.  I didn’t think I needed to be jumping.  So, I did the moves that I could without putting too much extra pressure on my feet. 

Then I iced and elevated for most of the night, and it seemed to help a little.  Since I couldn’t do anything, I spent the evening catching up on some DVR shows and then when Jeremy came home we watched baseball.  Since he was home late, I ate dinner before he got home.  I had scrambled eggs (1 egg + 3 whites), turkey sausage, and kiwi and pineapple. 

Jake thought he needed some too. 

I came across this episode while watching my DVR and I laughed so hard.  I had to rewind it and video it to send to a couple of co-workers! I may have watched it several times.  I don’t know why it is so funny!

Jeremy took this picture of Jake late Monday night after I went to bed.  Yes, Jake has his own bed in our extra bedroom (which he thinks is his room).  He always sleeps like this – he’s so weird.  LOL

Tuesday

 When I got up today, my left foot wasn’t swollen, but it hurt bad!  My right foot didn’t hurt but it was still huge.  I didn’t notice them hurting so much at work all day.  But, I stayed off of my feet as much as I could.  When I got home, I was thinking about trying a light run, but after taking Jake for a walk they were both hurting again.  So, I spent the evening RICE-ing again. 

I did an ab workout (workout B) and that was it.  After the walk, they both hurt bad!  So, I propped them up for the night. 


I was craving some cookies, but I’m trying to eat healthy.  So, I made some healthy ones.  I mashed 2 bananas, 1 cup of oats, and threw in some mini chocolate chips and dried cranberries.  I baked them for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.  No shame in saying that I ate half of them! 

Jeremy’s games got rained out so I fixed us both dinner – eggs, turkey sausage, and toast. 

Bedtime was when I finally had to admit to myself that I may have actually hurt myself.  My feet hurt so bad that I had to get another pillow to prop them up.  

Wednesday

Again today I was thinking about going for a light run just to see if I could.  But I couldn’t!  I did do a Fit Affinity circuit and ab workout.  I had to leave out a couple of the moves – jumping rope and burpees– but I had a pretty good workout without those. And I did their ab workout C.  

I took some Ibuprofen, threw on my compression socks, and iced.  I will admit that I enjoyed one day of rest and watching tv, but after 4 straight days of this, I’m getting pretty frustrated – no today I was just straight up mad! 

I took Jake on a walk, and had to turn him loose so he could run, since I couldn’t run with him. And we went to see Jessie.  She was trying to lick my phone. 

When I got home, I had a package on the porch.  It was a good mail day! If you have not tried Spark, then you should!  It is such a game changer! 

Jeremy was home tonight, which helped my mood and he helped me fix dinner.  We had chicken fajitas.  We liked that seasoned meat from Aldi so much that we bought two more packets this weekend.  It is really good! 


Thursday

My feet were feeling a little better today.  They weren’t aching and there were no sharp pains, so I thought I might try a light jog.  I took Jake for a walk and tried to jog next to him.  I only made it half way down the road before the pain came back.  But, it wasn’t as bad as it had been.  So, I’m taking that as a good sign that maybe they are healing.  I walked the rest of the way with Jake and then we went to visit Jessie. 

When we got home, I put the compression socks back on and iced my foot.  Later in the evening I did part of the Fit Affinity circuit. 

Jeremy had games, so I was on my own for dinner.  I had a sandwich with turkey, swiss, and mashed avocado. 


Friday

I started Friday morning with a different breakfast.  I had a Mighty Muffin.  I love these things and they keep you full for so long! 

I finally ran today!  My feet were feeling better and the swelling was gone.  I was on them all day at work and when I got home, they still weren’t hurting so I decided to try out a light run and see how they did.  I ran a slow 3.5 miles with a little discomfort.  They didn’t hurt, but my left one was uncomfortable. 

After my run, I took Jake for a walk.  He actually wanted to walk today – and smell all the flowers! 

As soon as we got home I iced my foot.  It felt a little sore, but not too bad.  I think it’s getting better! 

When Jeremy got home, we got ready for our weekly date night!  We went to our taco joint and I ordered something different this week.  I had tacos.  I ordered a fish taco and a chicken fajita taco for me, and a carne asada for Jeremy.  I love, love, love their fish tacos!

Saturday

 I got up today and decided to try another run.  My feet still felt good, so I headed out.  The weather this week is beautiful!!  I ran 4 miles and stopped when I started feeling a little soreness in my left foot.  I went home and iced it.  I’m proud of myself for being responsible and listening to the pains instead of trying to push through.  🙂  LOL  That is a little victory for me, since I usually don’t stop. 

After my run, I did a Fit Affinity Ab workout.  (Workout E and F without the pulley or ab machine.)

Around 3, Jeremy and I headed out of town to visit some fam!  We hung out at his aunt and uncle’s house for a few hours and then we all headed to eat.  It was a birthday dinner for our cousin!  We went to Pete’s Place.  I have talked about it on here before. It’s in a little Italian community and it is so good!  I don’t eat a lot of pasta, but when I do, I eat Pete’s!  🙂

It’s all served family style and you get salad, spaghetti, meatballs, raviolis, and garlic bread.  I was stuffed when we left!

When we got back, we had some gluten free cherry cheesecake. 

That’s a 13 on the pie.

Jeremy and I got back home around 12:30 and crashed in bed!

Sunday 

After sleeping in a little today, I got up and worked on some of my freelance stuff.  I had a lot of writing to do today, so that has taken up most of my day.  Since I had so much to do, I threw some food in the crock pot to make my meal prep easier! 

I did take a break to go with Jeremy to get a few groceries, and then I did a Fit Affinity workout. 

I’m going to go take Jake for a walk and spend some time outside.  It’s soooo pretty!  And then I’m going to be writing all evening! 

Before I go, I have to share this review that I came across with you.  I am currently working on an article about compression sleeves for runners.  While researching, I found this review on Amazon and it cracked me up! 

Unexpected consequences….beware! I bought these because I chew up hills and swallow marathons for dinner, leaving most socks whimpering in dishevelment and disarray. I can’t foil these beasts! They support my ripped calves and keep me looking fine while doing it. I do love them, but they are dangerous. I wear them and I go so fast that girls skirts fly up revealing their goodies. I am always embarrassed, but I do fly in these bad boys….and I gotta fly.

      I think it’s hilarious! Sometimes he’ll just hang his head off. I’ll put a throw pillow u see it but in the morning he’s always laying on the floor again. Lol

    Oh no Tara! I hope by now your feet are looking much better, and not swollen anymore! I know what foot issues as a runner feel like – so frustrating! You have the cutest compression socks though…:) Yes, the weather is so pretty right. Enjoy your walk with Jake, and take it easy! Walking is still so good for you, even if you’re not running for a few days!

      My feet are looking better. One of them is still pretty sore but I think it’s getting better. It is frustrating! I know you understand!! I love my socks. Lol they are so comfy!

    I wonder what caused your feet to be swollen and in so much pain? I’m glad that doing RICE helped and that you’re feeling much better. You definitely made up for the running with lots of great workouts! Those cookies look AMAZING by the way!

    Sorry to hear that you have been having swollen feet. st least you were still staying active . Jake is adorable wrapped up in his blanket. My lab will lay with a blanket on her as well on the couch. Those cookies sound so easy and tasty. I will have to try those. Almost like a healthy version of no bake cokes.

    Having to rest can suck, but it is much needed. I’m glad that even though you weren’t able to run you still were able to stick with your healthy lifestyle by doing some ab workouts!

      It does suck! LOL And I am not one to sit still for very long. But, it was needed and it helped!
