Workouts, Food, & New Shoes

This week marked the half way point in my training.  I have 9 weeks left!  This week I didn’t run all of my runs.  My new shoes took a whole week to get here!  My shin was starting to feel better by Tuesday but I didn’t want to chance hurting it by running in old shoes.  Since I wasn’t running, I made sure to do other workouts in place of my runs.

The challenge this week was only counting nutrition.  We got bonus points for getting steps though.  5 points for 10,000, 10 points for 10,000-15,000, and 15 points for 15,000 +.

Today was the first rest day that I have had in over a month!  We weren’t counting physical activity anymore with the wellness challenge, and it was a rest day from running so I took it!  Plus, I was super sore from my workout on Sunday that I really don’t think I couldn’t have done anything.  I was off work today, so I slept in a little.  I actually didn’t sleep at all because my body was so sore that I couldn’t get comfortable.  I guess that means it’s a good workout!

When I got up, I started my day with some yogurt, fruit, and cereal.

Then I took Jake for a walk.  He loves it when I am home with him all day. Lunch was my Skinny Southwestern Chicken Salad.

After lunch, I spent most of the afternoon working from my recliner!  I took Jake on another walk, and went and brushed Jessie.  It was a very relaxing day!

Jeremy was craving pasta, so we invited his dad to dinner and I fixed spaghetti and salads.  I am not a big pasta fan, and I really got burned out on it last year when I ate it all the time during marathon training.  I thought it helped because of the carbs and sugar, but now I think it’s what made me so sick.  So, I roasted a spaghetti squash and I ate that with a little sauce on it.  (I forgot to take a pic! oops!)

After dinner, Jeremy and I watched a movie on TV until I fell asleep.

I tried out my new Slim today.   It worked really well!  I drank it at 6:15 am and I wasn’t hungry at all until 10:30.  And even then, I couldn’t finish my entire yogurt.  I tried the lemonade flavor and it tastes just like lemonade.  Around 3 I had another one, and I wasn’t hungry until close to 8!  I’m really excited about this!  It will definitely help me stop snacking!

I was supposed to run 3 miles today, but my shoes were still not here, so I walked instead.  The weather was absolutely beautiful!  Jake and I walked for almost 45 minutes.

Then, when we got home I did some yoga.  I was STILL sore from my workout on Sunday so I needed to good stretch.  I also did a quick ab workout when I finished yoga.  Jeremy burned a brush pile Tuesday evening, so we sat by the fire until we went to bed.  We roasted hot dogs – turkey dogs for me!

And then we made s’mores!

Jake loved it!  He sat and chewed on sticks.

Steps 20,734

I had another Slim this morning before breakfast.  I took a granola bar to work with me instead of yogurt since I couldn’t eat it all yesterday.

I had a really crappy day at work and I could not wait to leave.  But, it got a lot better after work.  On my way home I stopped and visited my grandparents.  And then when I got home, I had a package on the porch.  My shoes came!!  A day early!!

That made my day!  I couldn’t wait to get them out of the box and try them out!  As soon as I could get them on I headed out for a run.  Brand new shoes are the best!  Plus they are really pretty!

I ran a quick 3 miles and then headed home to help Jeremy rake some leaves.  But, by the time I got home he was already finished.  So, I stretched my legs and then showered.  We flipped through the channels all night and decided to order a pizza.  We gave Papa John’s another try.  It was better than the last time, but I don’t think we’ll be eating it again.  It was really doughy, like it wasn’t cooked all the way thru.

Steps 16,458

Today was a much better day at work.  Plus, the sun was shining and it was 83 degrees outside!  I had some blueberry Kodiak cakes for breakfast.

At lunch I added some salsa to my salad and it was awesome!  I like it better with salsa than with the dressing!

After work I was planning on running my long run from last weekend.  I wanted to run 13, but I would have been happy with 10.  I had some Spark and a Bear Naked bar before I got started.  At lunch my friends warned me that the pollen count was high and that the wind was blowing hard and it probably wasn’t a good idea for me to run in it.  Did I listen?  No!  I headed out and before I even made it a half mile I was wheezing and had to stop.  I was stubborn and decided to keep going.  I thought that I would catch my breath and I would eventually calm down and be okay, but that was not the case.  The route that I ran takes me a couple of miles away from where I parked, so I had to keep going.  But it was not easy.  There was probably equal amounts of running and walking.  I could run for a couple of minutes and then I would have to walk to try and catch my breath.  My eyes, nose, throat, and chest were burning from trying to breathe!  It was miserable!  I had to quit at 5 miles.  Stupid asthma!

I headed home and took Jake on a quick walk.  And once I had finally caught my breath and my chest quit burning I decided to do a circuit workout.  I did the same one that I did on Sunday but I only did it one time through.

Total Body Circuit Workout

Jeremy was home early from his games and we cooked some ribs.  I made a salad to go with mine and he brought home some French fries to go with his.  The ribs were pretty good!

We enjoyed a relaxing night watching tv and going to bed early!

Steps 18,583

I knew today was going to be an extremely busy and long day.  I got up early and did an ab workout before work.  I had a Slim, which gives me a lot of energy and helped to get me through my workout.   After work, I had a couple of errands to run and then I rushed home to get changed and ready to go with Jeremy to his games.  Neither of the games were any good, so I snapped with a couple of friends to help pass the time.

We actually got home pretty early!  I fixed some breakfast and took a benadryl and went to bed.  The pollen is making my allergies go crazy!

Steps 15,230

I was supposed to run 13 miles with my dad this morning, but that didn’t happen.  I woke up wheezing.  I checked my weather app and the pollen count was still ridiculous!

So, I bailed. I decided not to even chance it because I knew I wouldn’t be able to run it.  Since I was up early, I did an ab workout and some squats.

I got pretty discouraged today.  I started questioning myself – am I using the pollen as an excuse, am I just tired and not wanting to run, am I being lazy??  I was really getting down and pretty angry at myself.  But, then I walked across the street to see the horse and I had an asthma attack.  I know the pollen seriously affects me, and it is seriously annoying!  I was pretty mad that I didn’t get my run in, and am now worried about the rest of training.  That’s two long runs in a row that I have missed.

Around lunch, I got a call that my grandma was in the hospital.  I rushed up there and stayed with her all day.  She has pneumonia.  🙁   I did go up and down the stairs a few times.

Jeremy had games, but I stayed behind to stay with my grandma.  I fell asleep before he got home.

Steps 15, 250

I was super mad today about the pollen.  My weather app said it was going to be better today, but it wasn’t!  I did not get to run and it really upset me.  But, the pollen was so bad that I couldn’t even walk outside without having to use my inhaler.  Around noon I went to help my friend set up for her daughter’s fifth birthday party.  She had a mermaid party and it all the decorations were really cute!

My friend made that banner!

She had a huge party and lots of her friends come.  It was so cute watching them all.  They were all so excited!

I can’t believe she’s already five!  It seems like yesterday we were at the hospital and she was being born.

After the party I headed up to the hospital to sit with my grandma for a little while.  She was doing so much better today!

Tonight I am doing a circuit workout, meal prepping, and getting ready for the week.  I’m hoping that I will be able to get some runs in this week.  If not, I’ll be doing a lot of circuits.  I hope you all have a great one!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

Love the shoes! Are they Brooks Launch? I am due for a new pair of shoes as well. I always feel so much faster on my first few runs in my new shoes! Sorry to hear about your Grandma. I will say a prayer for her. Hope you have a great week!

Thanks! They are the Brooks Ravennas. I always feel like I’m running on a cloud in the first few runs. I guess it’s just the difference in wearing the old shoes and switching to some that actually have tread on them. LOL My grandma is doing so much better. Thank you!

Those shoes are SOOOOO pretty! Brooks…Ravenna? Sorry to hear about your grandma, but great job on the steps 😉

Thank you! They are the Ravennas. I love the color! I will definitely buy a couple more pairs of these.

There’s nothing like the cushioning and bounce of a new pair. I get shin splints too when I’m overdue, and I try not to get to that point. It does mean I may be rotating old shoes out sooner than I should, but shin splints aren’t fun at all.

No they are not fun! I made sure to log these in my Garmin app so I know when it’s time to get new ones before my shins start hurting!

I’m sorry to hear your allergies have kicked up. The tree pollen is what bothers me. It comes very early and is very high right now here. Luckily, Allegra takes care of it for me. I love the color of your new shoes! I’m due for a new pair but don’t like my color options. LOL. Normally, we have pretty good luck with Papa John’s. Our favorite is Spinach Alfredo with Chicken. I’ve never heard of Slim so I”ll have to check that out. I hope your Grandmother is doing better. Thanks for linking, Tara!

The tree pollen is killing me! I take Zyrtec and use a steroid inhaler and it helps some, but not enough. I’m glad that Allegra works for you!
I’m with you on the color options. I was super excited when I saw the newest ones were in pink! I will have to try that spinach alfredo chicken pizza. That sounds so good! My grandma is doing so much better! She is home resting.

Those shoes?!?! So gorgeous! That stinks that the pollen is bad to the point that you are unable to run but your health is really an important thing to factor in when training for different races. Also sorry to hear about your Grandma, hope she is doing better!

Thanks!! 🙂 I am so stubborn about not getting to run, so it really frustrates me when I have to stay inside. I’ve been able to get out a couple of times this week and have been okay. I’m hoping that the pollen count will go down soon! My grandma is doing so much better! 🙂

Hope your grandma gets better soon–this is such a rough time of year for sickness! I definitely love salsa on my salads instead of dressing too–soo good!

She is doing so much better! It is such a bad time of year. It feels like everyone I know is sick. I keep telling my friends that they better not share any germs with me. They all make fun of me because I use so much germ gel. I really loved the salsa on that salad. It really worked well with all the tex-mex flavors.

Whta pretty shoes! I love the bright colors! Like Kim says Go Bright or Go Home right? 🙂
We also had smores this week, It was about time too. Most nigths we only lit the propane fire pit but this week we went home to bring back real wood for a real fire. I smelled like smoke but I didn’t even care !
What a pretty party for a pretty lil girl! I know yall had a ball! I bet those cupcakes were the bomb too!

LOL Everything I had on smelled like smoke! But, it was worth it! It made me want to set up a tent and camp out in the backyard. 🙂 I agree with Kim too! I love bright shoes! The party was a success. She had a blast!

Yay! I finally have time to catch up on your blog! WOOHOO! That marathon is going to be here in no time- you are killing it! Also- nothing beats a good S’more. People don’t do tons of bonfires around here (risk of wildfires in the summer especially), so that is something I have missed big time about Ohio. LOVE the new shoes. Those look super supportive. Annnnd nothing is worse than doughy pizza ☹ DJ and I both especially love thin crust because it runs less risk than the super doughy. It’s like the crisp and the wood fire flavor is missing when it isn’t cooked all way! Darn! The rest of this just all looked like such fun (minus the asthma). You are one busy girl! Good luck with the rest of the training and I hope the allergies stay at bay— try Flonase, it works miracles!

I think we will stick to thin crust pizza from now on. Although I do love Domino’s hand tossed crust. I actually have some flonase and I like it. But, I can’t use it too often. My doctor thinks I’m allergic to something in it. If I use it for more than a few days in a row I start getting back headaches and I break out in an itchy rash. But, it does work really well. I just have to space out my uses.
