Happy Running

Hey Everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful week!  This was a really busy week for me and I did what I could as far as working out and running.  I just had to be really flexible, and I had a couple of very early mornings!  I still got all of my runs in, but I had to move them around.  I have also been trying to do 2 physical activities each day.  (partly for marathon training, but also for earning points for our wellness challenge at work.)  I did get in 2 activities almost every day, but this week’s weren’t as challenging as last week’s.  This next week should be a lot calmer! 

Here’s a look at my training plan for the week and what I did in terms of running:

The wellness challenge at work this week is now tracking healthy eating.  We are still tracking physical activity, but we can now earn 3 points each for eating a green vegetable with every meal, eating whole or sprouted grains, eating 5 servings of fruits and veggies each day, eating meals cooked at home, and packing your lunch.  We are no longer tracking sleep for bonus points.  Instead, we get 10 bonus points if we do not drink any sugary drinks.  (If we already do not drink them we get 10 points for the week.)  And, we get 5 bonus points each day if we drink 24oz of water as soon as we get up.   I thought 16 was hard, but this is really hard! 

I didn’t do as good about taking pictures of all my food as I did last week.  I only have pictures of my main meals.  There were snacks thrown in – mostly Nature Valley bars, Larabars, or bananas.  Here’s how I did this week. 

Monday

I started my day with whole grain oatmeal and Bob’s Red Mill protein powder mixed in.  I sweetened it with cinnamon and Stevia.  Lunch was my tex mex turkey, sweet potatoes, spinach, and an apple and blueberries.  I also had a Nature Valley granola bar after lunch for a snack. 

During my break time this afternoon, a couple of my friends and I walked for 30 minutes!  After work, I ate a banana and  headed out for a run.  I was planning on just running 3 miles, but it was pretty nice out and I was enjoying it so I ran a little over 4.  Then I took Jake for a run, and by the time we were finished we were at almost 6 miles.

Then we went to visit Jessie for a while and feed her.  And of course, Jake has to roll in the dirt! 

 

This picture is from Sunday, but I wanted to share it anyways.  Jeremy was trying to feed Jessie some treats and Jake thought he needed some too. 

When we got back home, I foam rolled my legs and stretched for a little bit.  Then I got busy with some strength training.  I did a Fitness Blender ab workout video, lunges, squats, planks, and some pushups.  My abs were sore!! (The good kind of sore!)

I made sure to get everything finished in time so I could sit down and watch the Bachelor.  Is anyone else watching this?  I can’t even figure out how I feel about it yet.  This season is just weird….

Dinner was scrambled eggs with bell peppers and spinach and whole grain toast.  Later that night I needed a snack so I made some cinnamon apples.  I just cut up an apple, put it in a skillet with a little water and cinnamon and cooked it until the apples were soft.

Thankfully we weren’t tracking sleep anymore because I got NONE!  I don’t know what was wrong, but my mind was racing all night.  I was wide awake!  I laid there and just watched the clock.  I didn’t even doze.  I hate when I do that.  I just kept counting – if I go to sleep now I can get 3 hours, if I sleep now I can get 2 hours.  I finally gave up and got up at 4:45.  I actually had my alarm set for 5:00 because I knew that if I didn’t get up and workout that I wouldn’t have anytime during the day to do it. 

Tuesday

The weird thing about me not getting any sleep was that when I finally got up, I wasn’t that tired.  I was still wide awake.  Just to be safe, I had some Spark and the rest of the 24 oz of water.  It was pretty difficult to get down first thing in the morning, but it did fill me up.  I did 45 minutes of strength training before getting ready for work.  (I was still feeling it from Monday!)  I was not hungry at all, but I was afraid I would be later so I fixed one egg with spinach and a piece of whole wheat toast.  I also took some protein powder with me to work in case I got hungry later in the morning. 

 I knew that I wouldn’t have any time after work to run because Jeremy had games far away and I was going with him so he didn’t have to drive alone.  We were leaving as soon as I got off work.  So, I used my break time to walk with my friend.  We got in 25 minutes. 

Once we got in the car, the lack of sleep finally started catching up with me.  I had a hard time staying awake.  The games were really boring and I did fall asleep on the way back!  We got home around 10:30, and I was able to go to bed by 11:15.  I slept all night!  Before bed I fixed some scrambled eggs with spinach and a piece of toast.  (My sweet tooth is really going away!  I have been eating my toast plain or with sugar free jelly, and I’m not craving the real kind anymore!)

Wednesday

 I had an odd breakfast today.  It was just because I wanted to get my 3 points for eating a green veggie with each meal.  I had oatmeal with protein powder mixed in and a side of steamed green beans.  Lunch was the same as the last two days.  After work, I headed home to get ready to run.  I had some Spark on my way and then I ran 6 miles!  It was not too cold when I started out, but by the time I was finished the temp had definitely dropped and I was freezing!  Jake was at my father-in-law’s across the street and he was watching me.  He made me feel so bad every time I ran by because he would get so excited thinking that I was coming to get him.  When I finished, I did go get him and took him on a quick run.  Then we went home and warmed up!  Later I did an ab workout, and I sure felt it on Thursday! 

I thought of it while I was running. 

Dinner was scrambled eggs with spinach, blueberries, and whole grain toast.  I was still hungry after I ate, so I fixed an apple like I did on Monday night and at the last minute I threw in about a half a banana too.  It is a really good healthy treat! 

I spent my evening watching Gone Girl.  I have read the book but hadn’t seen the movie yet. 

Thursday

I had the same breakfast and lunch again today as I did on Wednesday.  Today was another busy day and I literally had no time!  I got up early because I knew I wouldn’t have any time before bedtime to work out.  I did a 45 minute circuit workout before work.  I have never been one to work out in the morning.  I hate it!  But, this wellness challenge is motivating me to earn points, so I am doing everything I can to get in my workouts.  I am starting to like getting up early and working out.  I actually feel more energized and awake during the day!

On my break I walked with my friend for 25 minutes! 

I left work a few minutes early to run home and change.  Jeremy was refereeing a tournament and I was asked to keep the scorebook.  It’s an invitational tournament that’s being played in memory of a local coach and teacher who passed away recently. (He was my coach and teacher when I was in 5th and 6th grade.)  They have this tournament every year and Jeremy usually helps out on Saturday.  The last few years I’ve been roped into running the scoreboard while he refs. 

We got there at 4 and the games lasted until 7:30.  It was around 8 when we got home and I fixed an omelet with spinach, a sprinkle of cheese, and some toast. 

Friday

Today was another busy day!  I got up early again and did a 45 min circuit workout before work.  It was not as easy to get up today as it was earlier in the week.  Breakfast was the same as the last two days.  I’m not sure how I feel about green beans for breakfast. 

I left work as soon as I could and headed out for a run.  I ran 4 miles and rushed home to shower so I could go with Jeremy to his games. 

I had a Larabar at the game, and then dinner was eggs and toast.  

Saturday

 I slept as long as I could today…till 7! 🙂  I had agreed to help out at the basketball tournament again and keep the scorebook.  We had to be there at 9:30.  I fixed a green smoothie to drink on the way there.  It had Bob’s Red Mill protein powder, a banana, frozen strawberries, spinach, and almond milk.  

I worked until 12:30 and then I left and headed to my friend’s house for her daughter’s first birthday party! 

All the food was so cute!  Baby E didn’t play in her cake that much.  She was very dainty and picked little pieces of icing off of it.  Maybe she didn’t like everyone staring at her!  LOL  She was tired after the party, but when I tried to rock her, she got a second wind and wanted to play with all her new toys.  

After the party I went home and did a Fitness Blender workout. 

I tried an hour workout, but I stopped around 40 minutes.  I started feeling bad, like really bad.  I thought I was getting whatever Jeremy had all last week.  My head felt like it was going to explode, my throat was hurting, and I was super achy.  It was crazy how fast that just hit!  I took some Mucinex and went to bed around 5:30 and slept until 8.  I still didn’t feel good, but we were going to go to dinner so I threw on some clothes and we went.  I ordered the chicken fajita plate, but I couldn’t even eat a fourth of it.  My stomach was starting to hurt as well.  I’m so tired of all the sickness going around!  I think everyone I know has been sick in the last couple of weeks!

After dinner we went home and I went straight back to bed.  

Sunday

When I woke up Sunday morning, my throat felt better and the pressure in my head was a little better too.  I had 10 miles scheduled today, so I decided to go ahead and try to do it.  I had some oatmeal and a piece of toast with peanut butter and a drizzle of honey on it.  I also had some Spark!  

After my run I had a strawberry banana protein smoothie.  It had a little bit of spinach in it, but not too much.  

My run started out great.  My first two miles were around 8:14.  But, then I started having a hard time breathing.  I guess that happens when I’m congested.  The next 8 were slower and I had to take a few walk breaks.  But, I got it done and I’m glad I did.  I wanted to give up around mile 7, but I kept thinking I’m so close!  

When I came home and got ready to take a shower, I started noticing there was grass caked on my face, hair, and all over my clothes.  The wind was blowing super hard!!  

This afternoon I did some meal prep and am now getting ready to cook dinner.

    Not sure how I’d feel about green beans for breakfast either! And you must read Gone Girl. It’s really good – books always are better than the movie…

    Id love green beans thrown in a scramble in the morning. Im obsessed with green beans haha. Sounds like youre doing so well thats really cool your work is doing a challenge. What is the prize for winning?

      We all put $5 in a pot and the winner gets all the money. I think it’s around $350!! I really want to win! 🙂

    I would fail the challenge when I came to vegetables. I’m just not a veggie person, and as much as I love fruit, I don’t each 5 servings a day.

      I like veggies, but it is a little difficult to eat them at every meal. But, added them in has helped getting my 5 servings each day. 🙂

    Great job this week. That Wellness Challenge is a great motivator. Will it go on all year? I just saw The Girl On The Train and thought the book was much better than the movie, although it was good a movie. Those ONE-derful cookies are almost too pretty to eat. I’m not sure I could eat green beans for breakfast. Maybe spinach with my eggs? Thanks for linking, Tara!

      The wellness challenge lasts until March 9. It’s 8 weeks. I want to read the Girl on the Train. I have heard the book was really good. I always like the books better than the movies though. I like spinach in my eggs! This week I’ve been making smoothies with spinach in them.

    GIRL! You are my INSPIRATION. All this food looks so yum. There is so much I could comment on- but first things first- BACHELOR. So weird, right?! We are convinced the last episode was the weirdest episode of all time. Like what is that maddness?! The show went from somewhat cheesy romantic to trashy and obnoxious. Woah, harsh words! We’ll still be watching, but it confuses us! Also- I looooove fitness blender videos. Their abs ones are some of my fave! I need to branch out and try the others. Hope your week has been amazing, girlie! xo

      AWW Thank you so so much!! You just made my day! 🙂 I totally agree with you about the Bachelor being trashy and obnoxious now, but I still love it! LOL I just can’t stop watching! I just did a Fitness Blender pilates ab video and HOLY COW! I’m feeling it everywhere! I am really loving their videos! I hope you’re having a great week too!
