Goodbye 2016!

And so it begins…..This week started week 1 of marathon training round 2!  This week went really well.  I hope I can keep this up and really do it good this time!  Only 17 more weeks to go! Here’s a look at how my first week went.

Mon: Rest     Tues: 3 miles     Wed: 3 miles     Thurs: 3 miles     Fri: Rest     Sat: 6 miles     Sun: Cross

We were out of town for our final Christmas celebration today.  You can read all about it here.

Training started today!  I had three miles scheduled and that’s what I did!  I’ll be really honest and tell you that I didn’t want to do it at all.  I woke up on Christmas morning feeling way under the weather and it was still hanging on today.  But, it was 65 degrees and sunny, and I wasn’t going to miss that or the first day of training.  So, I pushed through. I drug myself out of bed around 10.  (I must be sick if I’m sleeping that late!)  I had some Spark and oatmeal and then got ready to run.  It was a little slow, but I sure enjoyed the warm sunshine.

After my run, Jeremy and I took Jake and Jessie for a walk.  I’m sure the neighbors all thought we were nuts, but we walked her down the road and she loved it!  She always knickers at us and acts so sad when we take Jake, so she got to go today.

We hung out at home all night and ate breakfast for dinner.

I woke up early today.  I started with some Spark and oatmeal again and then got ready to run.  It was another beautiful warm and sunny day.  It was almost 70 degrees!  I ran three miles and walked one.  I also tried out my new Fitbit Charge 2.  It was about a quarter mile behind my Garmin.  That could have been my fault because I forgot to turn on the bluetooth on my phone.  But, I loved how it tracked my run – pace, elevation, heart rate, and then it automatically loaded it into my app.  It’s pretty cool!

After my run I did a circuit workout.  I really want to incorporate some other types of training this time around besides just running.  That was one thing that I did wrong last time.  I really didn’t do much strength training or cross training.  My cross training mainly consisted of walking.  I’m determined to do better this time.

I was pretty hungry when I got finished, so I fixed a black bean chipotle burger “salad”.

Then I got ready to go to some basketball games.  There is a girls tournament in our town every year and we usually go to some of it.  Luckily, one of my good friends was going too so I had someone to sit with.  We talked through all the games watched a few games and then went home to let Jake out and eat dinner.  Since it was late, we ran through Taco Mayo to grab dinner.  I had a salad bowl with cilantro lime rice, black beans, grilled chicken, cheese, and salsa.  It was really good!

I woke up early again today, and I started with my usual oatmeal and Spark.  I still wasn’t feeling great, and I debated on staying cuddled up in my pj’s under my blanket.

But, I didn’t want to sit around all day so I got dressed.  Jake wasn’t going to let me stay in either.

whining at the door

He was ready for a walk – which turned in to a run.  We ran one mile and then went to visit Jessie.  She was still sleeping.

When I took him home, I headed out for a run.  It took me a mile to warm up, but once I did I felt great!  I ran three and half miles and then stretched my legs a lot!

Then I did an ab workout, planks, and squats.  After my workout, I tried out the Kodiak protein pancake mix.  It was great!  I can’t wait to make some more of these!

When Jeremy got home, we saddled up Jessie and rode her for a couple of hours.  We took her down the road again and of course Jake whined to go too.

Jeremy rode her around the pasture while Jake picked up sticks.

And, he rolled in the dirt.  He had a bath on Wednesday and now he is filthy!

Today was a rest day and that’s what I did.  Not feeling too great finally caught up with me and I was exhausted.  All I wanted to do all day was sleep.  I slept until 9:30 and then I rode around with Jeremy for a little bit while he checked on some of his jobs.

When we got back home, I took Jake on a quick walk and over to see Jessie.

And then I crawled back into bed.  I slept for almost 3 hours and when I woke up I felt much better!  We went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant and shared fajitas.

After dinner we went to meet up with some friends at the finals of the basketball tournament.  We got there in time to watch the last quarter.  Then we went home and I went straight back to bed!

I had 6 miles on my schedule for today.  It was warm and sunny again and I didn’t have anything else to do today except run.  I love days like that when I feel like I can take my time and enjoy it, and I don’t feel rushed to try and fit it in between things.  I had some oatmeal and Spark and then headed out.  I ended up running 7 miles!  After my run, I did an ab workout and then I foam rolled and stretched really good!

I tried my Fitbit again, and even with the bluetooth on it was still a quarter mile behind.  Oh well, I’ll just wear it and my Garmin from now on.

When I finished running and working out, I had another Kodiak power cake with sugar free syrup.  I can’t get enough!

We had a pretty quiet New Year’s Eve, but we did stay up really late.  So, we slept in Sunday morning.

Happy New Year!  It’s 2017! Today we slept in and once I was up and awake (with lots of Spark!) I did an Insanity workout.  I love/hate these workouts.  They are super hard and I hate it while I’m doing it.  But they work, so I love how I feel afterwards!

We’re going to hang around the house the rest of the day and fix some venison fajitas for dinner.  I hope you all have a great week!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

Questions for you:

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?  What are they?

What did you do on New Year’s Eve?

Do you eat black eyed peas on New Year’s Day?

I don’t do resolutions, but I do have goals for this year. I have my running goals ready to post for Tuesday. A non-running goal is to learn my new job and get up and running without too many bumps in the road.

Good luck with your goals! I like setting goals more than resolutions. They are probably the same thing, but goals just seem less daunting. 🙂

Both of my Fitbits were always behind my Garmin mileage. I always assumed it was because my Fitbits didn’t use GPS technology and calculated the mileage using step counts and average stride lengths. But, I never did any research on that. Congrats on week 1 of marathon training. That is so exciting. My last training cycle was very heavy on cross training. This one has not been. So, I’m anxious to see if it makes any difference. How cute Jessie gets to go on walks just like Jake. Thanks for linking, Tara! Happy New Year!

I’m glad to know that your Fitbits were behind too. I’m anxious to see what you think of this training cycle and less cross training. I’m interested to know if it makes a difference or not.

I hate that Insanity because it is so hard! It is definitely a good sore. I love how Jake and Jesse are buddies….so cute! I do not make New Year’s Resolutions because I get disappointed in myself when I do not reach them.

I’m the same way with New Year’s Resolutions. I quit making them a long time ago. I try to just set small, reachable goals for myself. That is so much better than huge resolutions.

Congrats on Marathon #2 training! Despite not feeling well, you did a great job getting the work done 😉 I need to find these Kodiak pancakes! I keep hearing they are awesome!

Thanks! Those Kodiak pancakes are awesome! I ordered mine from Amazon. There isn’t anywhere in my town that sells them. I will be ordering a lot more!

My Fitbit is also always behind my Garmin (even if they BOTH use the accelerometer or stride length) .. which is most definitely due to the different ‘technology’ that is used. I noticed that my Runtastic App is also always off from the Garmin. I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle 😉

Hooray for mararthon training round 2!

Lol my MapMyRun app was always a little off too. My dad and I could run together using 2 different apps and our mileage was always different. Who knows? It’s close enough. Lol
