It’s December!

Hey Friends!  I can’t believe it’s December!  Christmas is just around the corner and this is my favorite time of year!  I love everything about Christmas, and I really got into the Christmas spirit this week.  The weather can’t make up it’s mind on whether it wants to be hot or cold.  It keeps going back and forth between temps in the 30’s and temps in the 60’s.  I’ll take 60 degrees any day!  The 60’s made for nice running weather this week!

Monday

I started today with a plan to get my eating back on track after the holiday.  I had way too much pie during Thanksgiving!  I had some oatmeal for breakfast and a Special K bar for a mid morning snack.

Lunch consisted of turkey, sweet potatoes, and a small apple.  Then, before my run I had a granola bar.  Afterwards I had a banana.

When I got off work, I headed out for a four mile run.  It was really nice out!  After my run, I took Jake on a mile walk and then we visited the horse for a while until the sun started going down and it started getting chilly.  Jake loves to play with her and she just stands there and looks at him.  He runs all around her and will jump up and lick her face.

When I got home, I did some strength training and stretching.  I am determined to do more strength training.  I run a lot better when I do.  So, I am challenging myself to do the Squat Away May challenge.  I decided to start with Day One on December 1.  But, today I did 50 squats just to get a head start.  Anyone want to join me??

After all of that, I showered and then Jake and I put up the Christmas trees.  He had to be in the middle of all of it!

When Jeremy got home, I fixed some ham for dinner.  I wasn’t very hungry, so I just had one piece of ham.  And, in a moment of weakness, I had a tiny piece of pecan pie. It was delicious!

Tuesday

Today started with some oatmeal and green tea for breakfast.  I was feeling a little tired, so I had a Spark for a mid morning pick me up!  I love the limeade flavor.  I think it’s my favorite. 

Lunch was the same as Monday.  It was the rest of my leftover turkey, sweet potatoes, and a small apple.  After work I took Jake for a walk and he visited with one of the neighbor’s dogs.

Then we played with the horse again.  Jake really likes her and doesn’t want to leave when it’s time to go inside.

I got home a little late, so by the time I could run it was getting dark and chilly so I decided to do a circuit workout inside instead.

Jeremy had games, so I didn’t have to cook anything.  I had some Special K pumpkin spice cereal for dinner.  This is the best cereal I think I have ever eaten! 

Wednesday

I started today with some oatmeal and Spark.  I was tired from staying up too late on Tuesday night.  Lunch was some deli mesquite smoked turkey and sweet potatoes.  I had a very busy day at work, and knew that I would be too tired to run when I got home.  So, I had some Spark on my way home.  I really didn’t want to run.  It was cold, I was tired, and I just wanted to curl up on the couch.  But, I forced myself to go out the door and I’m glad I did.  The Spark kicked in and I felt great!  I had so much energy.  I didn’t have any set number of miles in mind when I started, but a couple of miles in I decided that I wanted to try and run 10.  It’s been a few weeks since I’ve run double digit miles, and I wanted to do it.  I was running a little faster than I normally do because it was cold and I wanted to get the run in before dark.  I felt so good, better than I have in a couple of weeks.  I never felt tired, or like I wanted to walk or even quit.  I was determined to get 10 miles in.  And, I would have, but right before I hit 7 miles, my neighbor came out to talk.  I haven’t seen her in a while, so I stopped to visit with her.  We ended up talking until it was almost dark, and by then I was freezing.  I wasn’t dressed warm enough, so I ran home and called it good at 7.  But, I was super happy about that run and how good I felt the whole time!

When I got home I still had so much energy, so I did my squats and then did some other strength training and an ab workout.  Jeremy was off, so we fixed a big dinner!  He got a deer last week and we already got the meat back.  So, we fixed some steaks and baked sweet potatoes for dinner.  It was delicious!

Thursday

I had oatmeal again for breakfast today and some Spark.

Lunch was different though.  Jeremy brought me some chicken strips for lunch and they were really good!  I decided to take a rest day from running today.  When I got home from work, I took Jake for a walk.  But, he didn’t want to walk.  We ended up jogging 2 miles, which was fine with me because it was cold!   After our jog, we went to visit the horse.  When we got home, I did some squats and an ab workout.  Then I warmed up some left over deer steak for dinner.  I spent the evening catching up on some blogging and watching TV while Jake slept next to the Christmas tree. 

 Friday

 I had oatmeal again today.  I usually don’t eat this much oatmeal.  I think it’s just because it’s been cold in the mornings and I like it to warm me up.  I didn’t have any turkey left, so for lunch today I some plain greek yogurt and mixed in a banana and some pumpkin spice Special K.

By the time I got off work, it was raining.   So, I did some squats and got ready to go with Jeremy to his ball games.  

This week was a LONG week and I was so happy for the weekend to begin!  I feel like I did pretty good getting back on track with my eating and working out.  I hope you all had a great week, and an even better weekend!  I’ll post a recap of what all we did this weekend tomorrow!

    It looks like you did an awesome job getting back on track! I’ve been doing that as well this week and I feel so much better now that the holiday is done. I’m going full-force healthy mode until Christmas! And yes, I’m ready for it! Mainly because I’m ready for a new year because I feel as though good things are to come.

    The week after Thanksgiving is always tough. It feels like such a long week after only working 3 days leading up to Thanksgiving. I was also quite happy to have the weekend. I only wish I could’ve slept more this morning.

    Send me some of that cooler running weather Tara – I’d love run in the 30s. I’m stilling running in the 80s and it feels like we are not getting a cool front any time soon! Congrats on getting back on track after the holidays and getting it all done. The Christmas season really is such a beautiful time and I feel like the days fly by even faster than usual – there’s just so much that needs to get done!

    I love warm oatmeal on a chilly morning too. Jake was certainly a good helper in with decorating the Christmas tree. My dogs were right there under my feet. (We won’t talk about the time one of them chewed the tree lights while they were on!) Congrats on a great 7 mile run. Thanks for linking, Tara!

      Oh no!! I hope your dog was okay! Jake hasn’t ever tried to chew any lights. He does take the bows off the presents though and sometimes he doesn’t stop at those – he’ll open the whole gift! Lol
