Vegas Baby!!

Hi!!  If you can’t already tell from the title, I just got back from Vegas!  Jeremy surprised me with the trip.  Well, he let it slip a couple weeks early, but it was still a surprise.  I was sooooo excited!!  We were only there three days, but this is definitely one of the best vacations ever!  Like in my top 3!  This was my first time to go, and Jeremy hadn’t been for over 15 years so it was all new to him too.  It was definitely an experience.  You really see all kinds there.  It’s like it’s own world.

I had to take a week off from running because of this trip.  I literally had no time between work and getting ready to leave to get any runs in.  So, the only running I have to report is from today.  I ran 10 miles!  I don’t know where the energy came from!  I thought I would be exhausted and want to sleep all day, but I woke up with a ton of energy so I set out to do just 2 or 3 miles.  But, I didn’t get tired so I kept on going.  I actually had 10 on my schedule for today so I’m really happy!  It was a little slow though and around mile 6 I started getting tired, but I was too far into it to quit then.  Even though I only have one day of running to report, I am linking up though because we were very active on our trip.  According to my fitbit, we walked 15.16 miles on Thursday, 16.4 on Friday, and almost 10 on Saturday.  Wow!  That was a ton of walking!

This post is going to be long, but I am going to break up our trip into a series because we did so much that I don’t want you to have to sit for hours reading!  So, let’s get started!  We got up at three am on Thursday morning and flew out of Tulsa at 6.

We had a short layover in Denver and it was freezing when we got off the plane!  I’m glad we didn’t have to stay there.

We got to Vegas at 9:15 and were at our resort by 9:45.

We stayed at the Aria, which was awesome!  (Thanks Leslie for the tip!  It was amazing!!)  It was right in the middle of the strip so it was very convenient too.

When we got there, our room wasn’t ready yet.  So, we dropped our bags at the bell desk and walked all around our resort.  It was super nice! (It had a bakery that had huge cakes!)

After an hour, our room still wasn’t ready so we headed out to the strip.  We stayed right around our hotel so we didn’t get too far away.  We went across the street to Hard Rock.

Then we went down the block to the  M&M’s store.  It smelled heavenly!  It was four stories high and each floor had something fun on it!

We walked in all of the stores on that block and went to the food court.  We had breakfast on the way to the airport at 4 am, so we were starving!  I forgot to take a picture, but we each had a turkey dog on a stick for lunch.  While we were eating, we got the text that the room was ready so we headed back to change because it was so hot outside.

Our room was on the 27th floor and had a great view of the stip.

My favorite was looking at it at night!  It was beautiful!

Our room had an ipad and everything (lights, drapes, tv, room service) was controlled by that, which was so cool!

My favorite part, next to the view, was the humungous bathtub!

We changed quickly and headed back out.  This time we walked across the street so we could catch the bus to go to Pawn Stars and Freemont Street.  I “ran” with Forrest Gump on the way!

We figured out really quickly that the easiest way to get around was the bus.  We bought tickets for $16 that were good for 24 hours.  We rode the bus for about 10 minutes to Pawn Stars.  We heard it was small, but I was shocked at how small it really was! We were in there for about 10 minutes.  I was disappointed because the guys on tv weren’t in there.

Leaving there, we headed downtown.  We walked about six blocks down to Freemont Street.

I was shocked at the things we saw down there.  There were tons of street performers that were basically naked, and lots of other weird things.  We saw a man dig a cup out of the trash and drink what was left in it.  It was a totally new experience!

We hung out there until after dark so we could see all of the lights.  It was really cool!

We went in the Golden Nugget and I won $40 on a penny machine and then turned around and lost it in about five minutes.  Then we went over to Binions and tried our luck with the free slot machine.

We didn’t win anything so we went inside and took our picture with the million dollars. We can dream!

When we left there, it was dark so we walked around for a long time taking in all of the sights.

We were so hungry because all we had eaten all day was that turkey dog on a stick, so we grabbed a piece of pizza.  It looks so disgustingly greasy, but it was delicious and I loved every calorie!

I’m not sure how long we stayed down there, but we did make it back in time to watch the 8 o’clock show of the fountains at the Bellagio.

Then we walked through Caesar’s Palace before heading back to change for the night.  We weren’t doing anything but walking around, so I threw on some tights and a sweater because it got a little chilly.  We walked around the strip for a little while before finding somewhere to eat dinner.

We ate at Double Barrel at the Monte Carlo.  Jeremy ordered the ribs, and I ordered a barbeque chicken breast with a side salad.  We sat on the patio which was right on the sidewalk so we could people watch.  My dinner was really good.  Jeremy didn’t like his ribs.  He could only eat half of them because they were so tough.

I had so much fun watching all of the people.  I was really shocked at how many children there were.  Especially, how many were out that late.  It was probably after 11 when we were eating.

After dinner we headed back to our resort and walked through the casino.  Then we went back to the room and took in the view.  Jeremy was really tired, but I guess I got a second wind.  Or, I had so much energy because of the Spark!  I probably should have been tired because at this point, we had been up for 24 hours!

We had so much fun on our first day!  My back was a little sore from walking around all day, but other than that I felt great!  We walked so much that when I finally laid down, I was out!  We had such a busy day and saw so much, I was so ready for the next day!  Make sure you come back tomorrow to see what we did on Friday!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

How fun! Vegas is always a blast! I think three days is sufficient there. By then we are done wasting money on slots. Sometimes we do luck out and win some. Aria is such a beautiful resort. I have never stayed there yet. Did you go to the Wicked Spoon? A great breakfast buffet. I’m pretty sure it is in that one.

I haven’t been to Vegas since I was a kid, but I’m sure I’d love the M%M store. A family favorite chocolate company is right outside Vegas too, so I know I’d be getting lots of chocolate if I get back there.

Coming back from New Orleans and reading your comments about Vegas street performers and people digging in the trash is exactly like Nola. Heck I saw more naked people this trip than any before and they weren’t wanting money, just attention I guess.
It’s fun to visit places like this and I so want to do Vegas one day! Tell me one thing I must do while I’m there.

Go to Freemont Street! It was like a whole different world. And go at night so you can see all of the lights. I haven’t been to NOLA in many many years, but I do remember a lot of street performers. That was the first time I had ever seen any and I was fascinated by the ones that are painted silver or gold.

Still catching up on the last couple of weeks…. so excited to read that you took a trip to Vegas. I was just there a couple of months ago to meet up with a girlfriend (+ her family). Isn’t Vegas surreal?
