It Feels Like Fall

Hi Friends!  Happy Weekend!  I hope you are all having a great one!  I think I did better this week than last week as far as training goes.  Again I had to move things around because of the weather, but this weekend it has finally gotten cooler.  I’m so excited for this next week’s runs.  Saturday it was 68 when I went to run.  I enjoyed every minute of it!  It was so much better than pushing through a miserable run in the heat and humidity.  I’m glad it’s finally feeling like fall!

Here’s how my week went:

Monday – Today was a pretty busy day.  We got home from the lake early in the afternoon and made a stop at the grocery store.  Once we got to the house, I prepped all my food for the week.

Labor day weekend fun and food new blog post run and live happy (1)

I had 30 minutes of cross training scheduled.  Monday evening I did 30 minutes of strength training and then also an ab workout.  I was really too tired to do anything else and I struggled to get that in.  Jeremy and I watched Bachelor in Paradise and I went to bed early and slept all night!

Tuesday – First was breakfast!  The most important meal of the day!  I love Dannon!

Today I had 3 miles on my training plan and it was hot!  I kept waiting on the weather to cool down, but it was not cooperating!  I got off of work around 3 and I was planning on running before I went home.  But, it was 96 degrees and my weather app said it felt like 100.  So, I decided to just wait until it cooled down.  It got overcast and windy, so a little after 5 I headed out.  Of course it didn’t stay that way, but it wasn’t too bad.  I got in 3 miles.  My first 2 were at a pretty good pace, but my last one was sad.  I had to slow way down and even walk some so I didn’t get sick.  When I got home I laid in the floor until I cooled off!

Then I did some strength training and took a cool shower!  Right before dark I took Jake for a walk.  Jake got some new treats today and I seriously debated trying them.  They are animal crackers and they smell just like the real ones…and they’re low in fat!   Okay, I didn’t want to eat one…but they did smell really good!  Jake liked them alot!

I fixed barbeque chicken in the crock pot for dinner and we watched the Bachelor in Paradise finale.

Wednesday – Today it was overcast and windy all day and I had 4 miles scheduled.  I was excited about running because the sun was not out!  I had some spark around 2:30 and got ready to go run around 3:30.

But, when I went outside, I immediately could not breathe.  I started wheezing and had to go in and use my inhaler.  I checked my weather app to see what the pollen count was (I keep forgetting about that) and it was high.  I also noticed that on my app now under the pollen count it has a running forecast.  It said it was bad running weather and it said it wouldn’t be good running weather until Saturday.  It’s really cool!

I knew I wouldn’t be able to run in that, so I did some strength training and a 30 minute ab workout.  It was hard, but I didn’t really feel like I did a lot.   I was wrong though!  When I woke up on Thursday, it hurt to move!!  I love workouts that do that to you.   I ate some Cheerios for dinner and Jeremy and I got caught up on Married at First Sight.

Thursday – Wednesday night I was up really late, so Thursday morning came early.  It was a 2 sparks kind of day!  The pollen count was still way up on Thursday, and I had 3 miles scheduled.  But, it didn’t matter anyways, I didn’t have enough time to run.

half marathon training

I had a late meeting at work, and then I had enough time to go home and change before heading over to my grandparent’s for dinner to celebrate my mom’s birthday.  (I did do some squats when I was at home.  There’s always time for that!)

half marathon training

We had hot dogs and Italian cream cake.  My grandma makes it from scratch and it is so good!  Then my mom opened gifts and we sat around and talked for a while.  It was a fun celebration!  I fell asleep on the couch sometime before 10 and Jeremy woke me up at midnight so I could go to bed.  I guess I stayed up too late on Wednesday.

Friday – Today was a scheduled rest day, but since I didn’t run on Thursday, I thought I would get it in today.  I already knew that the weather conditions were not going to be good for running.  But, it was overcast and windy and the temperature was not too hot.  I decided that I would take Jake for a walk first and see if I could breathe okay.  Bad idea!  We made it half way down the road and my throat was hurting and my chest was tight.

Having asthma and allergies really stinks!  When we got back home, I (by I, I mean Jake and I) had a snack.

half marathon training

I am loving these crackers and hummus, or just the crackers by themselves.  And, there are so many flavors of them.  I really like the white cheddar too.  After my snack, I did an ab workout and worked on stretching my legs.

Saturday – A cold front came through Friday night and cooled everything down!  Saturday morning I got up at 8, but it was raining so I went back to bed.  I ended up sleeping until almost 10.  I had some eggs, a piece of toast, and some Spark.

Then I headed out for a  run.  This was the best and longest run that I have had in awhile!  It was 68 degrees and breezy.  It finally felt like fall!  It wasn’t a hard run, but it was a little challenging because of my asthma and the pollen count.   But, even with that, I had a great 5 mile run!  I downloaded some new music and jammed out to that!  After my run, I had some Rehydrate and then took Jake for a walk.

half marathon training

He wanted to run a lot because it was so cool out.  He even got to play with his friend!  They ran in circles forever!

half marathon training

We ended up walking a mile and a half before he got tired.

I know I whine about the pollen a lot, but the struggle is real.  Actually, it just sucks!  When you can’t be outside for more than 5 minutes without having trouble breathing is ridiculous.  And, it’s not just when I’m outside.  When the pollen count is high, it even hits me when I’m inside.  I get out of breath just trying to talk.  So, when I’m out in it and trying to run and breathe, my chest gets really tight and hurts, my muscles start feeling fatigued because I’m not getting enough oxygen, and a lot of times I get dizzy and feel like I might faint.  It’s just frustrating!  And…moving on….

I had a friend this week ask me why I train?  Why I put myself through this when I can’t breathe?  I didn’t even have to think about my answer.  The finish line.  There is no feeling like it.  I read this a couple of weeks ago on A Runnaroundd Life.  Lindsay had talked about why we do this to ourselves and how badly she wanted to be at the finish line.  That hit home with me.  Even on days when I hate running, I know that I won’t quit and give up a chance to be at the finish line.  If you don’t already, you should follow her blog.  She just started training for her second marathon, and she is such an inspiration!

And,because I’m a little obsessed with my dog) look at this adorable picture of Jake.  I was trying to get him to sit next to me to take a picture, but he did this instead.

Jake is too cute for his own good! I’m sorry you are suffering with allergies. Hopefully the pollen count will drop soon. You are right! There is nothing quite as satisfying as pushing your body to it’s limits and crossing that finish line. It’s always so emotional for me too. A homemade Italian cream cake sounds heavenly. I’m still waiting to feel fall. I usually smell it first, but that hasn’t happened either. Thanks for linking, Tara!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed the pollen goes down soon! The finish line is emotional and I don’t know why. LOL Even on the halfs I have run I was fighting back tears! And it’s awesome! The cake was so good! And my grandma insisted on sending like half of it home with me. I had a hard time not digging into it. Hopefully you will get some cooler temps soon too!

The pollen count is no joke! I have numerous allergies, and pollen is (almost) off the charts. It doesn’t affect my breathing much, but my eyes can be a puffed-up mess at times. I under went five years of allergy shots. It’s been a couple years since my last shot, and the difference during allergy season has been major. I seldom need allergy meds anymore and my eyes aren’t as miserable. It was worth all the time and inconvenience of doing the weekly shots.

I’m so glad you commented. I have been wondering about those shots. I don’t really want to have to go once a week, but if they would work I think I would do it.

Seems like a lot of people had kind of a hard week… (me included). I am glad I don’t have allergies though. I know from people how terrible it can be, so I have nothing but empathy for you when the pollen count is high. Sounds awful.

    Jake is too cute 🙂

Tara – I’m sure your run on Saturday in 68 degress felt amazing! a well deserved break from running in the heat! I would love to get some of this cold front, too! Palm Beach is still so hot right now. I usually don’t mind it but running in it is different story…
