My Fall Racing Calendar

Hello Everyone!  Welcome to this week’s Tuesday’s on the Run.  This is where we talk about all things running!  I’m linking up today with Marcia to discuss our fall racing calendars.

My fall racing calendar is pretty bare right now.  But, that’s always how it looks.  I am notorious for waiting until the very last minute to register for a race.  I’m a kind of spur of the moment racer!  Fall is a busy time for us because of baseball, basketball, and hunting.  But, I usually have a few in mind that I want to do, I just have to wait to see if they fit in to our schedule.  So, I’m going to share with you the races that I am eyeing and hopefully (fingers crossed) will be running this fall.

On a previous Tuesday’s on the Run post, I discussed what factors go into choosing races.  The problem I have is that there aren’t any local races.  So, I have to drive 1-2 hours to run them.  That does make it hard for me to run as many as I would like to.

September

The first one is next weekend.  It’s a 5K for women only.  I ran it a couple of years ago, and PR’d, but have not been able to fit it in again.  It’s called the Diva Dash and it is in Tulsa.  It’s a fun race and the money goes to the Girl Scouts of Oklahoma.  I love the race course.  It’s relatively flat, and is very scenic.  Plus, the bling is ridiculous!  More than likely, I’m not going to be able to run it because it’s a 2 hour drive.  We would have to go up the night before (which is my mom’s birthday) and stay the night.  So, we’ll see….

(Jenn sent me a pic to show that she’s not a looney tune.  But I love the first one…she always makes me laugh!)

October

The next race I am looking at is another 5K.  It’s called the Monster Dash and is in Norman, OK.  The money for this goes to the Junior League of Norman.  I have run this race twice.  The course is great!  It winds through the University of Oklahoma campus and is pretty flat.  (I like flat courses!)  I also like this race because a lot of people dress up for Halloween!  I decided last minute to run it last year and wore the same shirt that I wore the year before.  I need to plan a little better this year and find a fun costume!

There is also a Susan B. Komen Run for the Cure race on this same day.  If I can race on this day, I may run it since I have already done this race twice.

November

I officially started half marathon training yesterday!  I am really looking hard at the Route 66 Half Marathon in Tulsa in November.  I have wanted to run this race for a few years now, but it has never fit into my schedule.  Actually, the first year I wanted to run it, it was sold out before I registered.  So, I am going to actually register for this race and then hope that I get to do it.  Plus, if you register by a certain date, you get a really cool zip up jacket!  This is going to be a hard race.  I have heard that the course is very hilly.  But, I’m going to try my best to train hard and be 100% ready for it.  Whether I get to do it or not, I will be happy to build my mileage back up.

These are the fall races that I have my eye on.  Fingers crossed that I will get to run a few of them.  I get emails every day for races around my state.  So, I may randomly do another one at anytime this fall.

That’s some awesome bling for the diva dash 5K! I’d like to do some halloween theme races too. I’ve only done one in VA Beach (the wicked). Yay for marathon training, I hope the race works out for you this year!

You are eyeing some good ones! I’ve entertained Route 66 for a few years now. LOVE the bling there but the hills I can do without. Thanks for linking!

I am totally a last-minute racer, too. I have my eye on a couple of fall races, but haven’t signed up for any yet. I look forward to seeing which races you end up running 🙂
