Displaying Racing Memorabilia

Hi Everyone!  Today I’m linking up for my favorite post of the week – Tuesday’s on the Run.  I’ve missed this link up for the last couple of weeks but I’m back and excited to talk about running!  Today’s topic is racing memorabilia.  Do you display, toss, re-purpose?  What do you do with your racing memorabilia?

I didn’t even have to think about the answer to this one!  I absolutely display my medals, bibs, and memorabilia.  Those are all things that I am very proud of.  To me, those things are a reminder of just how far I have come on my weight loss / running journey.  I don’t display them for everyone to see, just me.  They are in my bedroom so I can use them as a daily reminder and motivation.

I write my times on the back of every bib.  This again is a reminder of how far I have come.  My very first 5K took me 36 minutes to run.  Since then, I have shaved off almost 10 minutes of my time.  At that point, I hated running, and I was scared to race.  It was so hard.  So, it is a reminder of where I started.

As far as race shirts go, I think I have two that I actually wear.  I do keep them all, but they go in a drawer.  Someday I am planning on having a quilt made out of them when I get enough.  I do have a few of these framed certificates on my dresser and my tiny wine glass.  They are from the races that I have done.  Not only am I proud of them, but they also give me motivation to try and beat my times!

I know these are just things, but they remind me that I am capable of doing something hard.  I am capable of accomplishing anything that I set my mind to.  I never thought I would run a half marathon, and then I did.  I NEVER thought I would be able to do a full, and then I did.  All of these things remind me of the obstacles that I have overcome to get to where I am today.  So, even if I have a bad run, or a bad running week, I can still look at the medals I have earned and remember that I can do it!  (And you can too!)

What do you do with your racing memorabilia?

This is a great idea! Have you seen those shadow boxes? You should make a racing shadow box!

I have all of my medals on a rack (near the calendar) so I see them often…like you said, they’re great reminders of what I have accomplished and how far I’ve come. I also write all of my finish times on my bibs…and have those on a binder ring as well.

That’s cool we both do that! I love that reminder, especially on days I’m being hard on myself!

I wouldn’t say that I am running for the medals, but having them as a reminder of what we have accomplished is definitely a reason to keep them and display them 🙂

I love that you printed out the race certificate and framed it – I think I might want to do something like that. And writing your times on the back of the bibs is a great idea, too.

That certificate was from my first half. They printed it at the race for us. ( I probably would’ve never remembered to do it.). My husband framed it for me one day while I was at work! And he did my first marathon certificate too!

I love this! It makes me want to sign up for another race. I’ve only done two: One was the color run, where they didn’t give out medals, however I did keep my bib, and the second was one I did through school in college, which there weren’t bibs or medals! The one at school was the very first time I ever ran an entire 5k without stopping, and I’ll never forget that moment! I was so proud of myself!

That’s an awesome memory! You should do another one!! They are so much fun and addicting! I just don’t have the time to run as many as I want. I have never done a color run, but want to really bad!

I have all my medals and certificates from race up in my bedroom. We earned them so why not display them. I too never thought I would run a marathon.Well ten down and still going strong.

May I ask what is your techniques to getting faster? I have been running for 3 years now and my 5k’s stay consistently around 45 minutes.

I think running hills helps a lot. I also run intervals and sprints sometimes. I’m sure there are lots of other ways to get faster, and I’m no expert. But, I hope those tips help!
