Weekly Recap and New Goals

Hi Friends!  I have been a little MIA from the link ups and from reading and commenting on your posts.  But, I’m back!  I can’t believe July is already over.  That means that fall is just around the corner.  That makes me so sad.  I love summer!  This year is flying by so fast!  I have some new goals for August to share with you.  But first, let’s see how my week went.  We had some sickness in our house and that kind of put a damper on working out and running.  I still managed to get some in, but was super tired during all of them.  Here’s how my week went.

Monday – I woke up at 6:45 so I could get a run in before it got way too hot.  I texted Shannon, but she didn’t answer me back so I headed out alone.  I was a mile into my run when she answered me, so I met up with her and we ran 3.5 miles.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (14)

Once she left me at my house, I got Jake and took him on a half mile walk/run.  He was loving the cool air and wanted to run!  Then I went home and did an ab workout and a workout from Simply Taralynn’s July Fit Challenge.  And then I stretched for a long time.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (16)

This was the best workout day of the week.  Monday was mine and Jeremy’s 7 year anniversary!  I can’t believe it’s already been that long.  Time sure does fly by!  We went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, but Jeremy didn’t feel very good so we just watched TV before going to bed early.  Vacation was our real celebration.Island Getaway Bahamas Recap Run and Live Happy New Blog Post (4)

Tuesday – I slept longer than usual this morning.  Shannon texted me at 8:30 asking if I had run because she slept a little longer too.  I told her no and we agreed we’d run Wednesday.  I lounged around for a little while and then took Jake for a walk.  While walking him I decided that it wasn’t that hot.  I took Jake home and got my running shoes on.  It wasn’t bad at first, but the longer I was out, the hotter it got.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (15)

I made it almost three miles and then I got sick.  I had to walk the rest of the way back home.  Even though it wasn’t a great run, I was happy that I got it in.  I came home and cooled off and then stretched for a little while.  My back and hips were super sore and tight.  I also used my foam roller and it helped a little.  But, I was so achy.  Jeremy came home from work early and was really sick.  He had been working outside Monday and Tuesday and I think he got way overheated.  He went to bed around 4 and didn’t get back up.

Wednesday – I woke up at 7 and texted Shannon.  She wasn’t ready to run yet, so I read emails and answered comments until she was.  Then we headed out.  It was overcast and nice until we got to the big hill.  Then the sun came out and was beating down on us!  It got really hot all the sudden.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (13)

We walked a little bit and then finished our run.  My body felt tired and sore the entire time!  When I got home, Jeremy was still sleeping.  I was really starting to worry about him.  I stretched until he woke up.  My hips and back were still hurting.  I finally got him up and to the doctor later in the afternoon.  They ruled out flu and strep, but sent us to the ER to have blood work done.  They were concerned because he had gotten into a bunch of ticks at work on Monday and because it had been so hot.  We had been in a heat advisory.  The ER determined that he was dehydrated and gave him fluids.  They also sent him home with some antibiotics just in case it was some kind of tick disease.  The results of that wouldn’t be back for a week.    We had to stop and pick up his medicine so I picked up some powerade’s.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (1)
He seemed to be feeling a little better once the IV was done and he ate when we got home.  But, about the time we were going to bed, he got sick and was up all night.  We didn’t go to bed until almost 6 am.

Thursday – I woke up at 10:45 and I wasn’t feeling that well.  I don’t know if it was from the lack of sleep or if Jeremy had a bug that I was catching.  But, I was super tired, my stomach hurt, and I was so achy.  Around 2 I finally got hungry and ate a little bit of cereal and then Jeremy and I went to town to get him something to eat.  We went by sonic and then headed right back home.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (2)

He went straight back to bed and I laid down to take a nap too.  I felt so much better once I got up.  Around 7, I headed out for a walk, but that turned into a run.  I walked about a half mile and then ran three.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (4)

Friday – I took a rest day from running.  I slept in a little bit and then did an ab workout and a lot of stretching.  I spent the day doing things around the house and grocery shopping.  Jeremy had to umpire the American Legion State Tournament and I was planning on going with him so I could make sure he had something to drink and didn’t get too hot.  But he didn’t want me to sit out there all afternoon and night.  So I dropped him off and then went and washed and cleaned out his truck.  Then I went out to the games around 8.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (7)

It was the longest game ever!  It wasn’t over until around 11:45.  I was super bored!  By the time he changed and gathered his things it was close to 12:30 before we headed home.  Neither of us had eaten anything since lunch, and I was feeling sick so we ran through McDonald’s and got an English muffin.  I got in bed around 1:30 so I slept in a little on Saturday.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (8)

Saturday – I had plans to run with Shannon this morning, but I never heard from her, so I stayed in bed. (I heard from her later in the day, and she was sick.)  I headed out around 10:30 and it was already too hot.  I started out running, but that didn’t last long at all.  I settled for a walk.  I was shooting for an hour, but made it 45 minutes.  It was so hot that I was getting dizzy.  I went home and drank a Powerade and laid in front of my fan until I cooled off.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (9)

When I checked the weather it was 98 degrees but the heat index said it felt like 102!  It was way too hot to be outside.  I spent the rest of the day cleaning the house and catching up on some scrapbooking.

Weekly Recap & New Goals (10)

And, I finally jumped on the Netflix train (don’t know why it’s taken me so long!) and I watched One Tree Hill all afternoon!  I used to love that show!

Bill and Sandra came to town to visit, so I met them at my favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner.  As soon as I pulled out of the driveway, it started storming which was very random because there was a 0% chance of rain.  It was crazy though because one side of the sky was sunny and the other side was dark and cloudy and it was pouring!  Jeremy’s games got cancelled because of the storm.  We brought him home some food and we all sat around visiting until bedtime.

New Goals:

I have some new goals for the month of August.  I feel like during the month of July I got off track a little.  We had a really busy month with the lake, vacation, and birthdays.  And even though I tried, I didn’t eat as healthy as I should, or workout as much as I should.  I also feel like even though I have been getting in a lot of early morning runs, the quality of those are not where I want them to be.  I need to work harder and get my mileage back up.  I’ve still been having some trouble with my stomach, but it is getting a little better.  I just feel like I haven’t been pushing myself very hard and I want to do better.

So, my goals for the month of August are to get back on track with healthy eating and to get back on track with running.  I’m starting August 1st with a 10 day cleanse from Advocare.  I’m hoping that it will help my stomach troubles and then I can get my running back on track.  I’m also hoping that doing this cleanse will help me get my eating back on track.  I feel so much better when I eat healthy and workout.  I’m excited to get started!

Weekly Recap & New Goals (11)

As far as running goes, I am wanting to up my mileage.  I have wanted all summer to get in half marathon shape and stay that way.  That obviously didn’t happen because my stomach bothered me so much.  I am crossing my fingers that I can start working on that.  It may take me longer than I want it to, but if I can get there without getting sick every time I run, I will be happy.  I am planning on a half marathon in November, so I am going to allow myself plenty of time to build up to that.  (I know it shouldn’t take that long, but in case you haven’t been following me – Since April I have been getting really nauseous when I run.  I can’t run fast anymore, and I have been having a hard time making it past three miles.  And, for a while I couldn’t even run three.  So, I think I am slowly making progress.)

Weekly Recap & New Goals (3)

I’m really excited to start this month with new goals.  I tend to stay on track and am more focused when I have a purpose or a goal to work towards.  I hope you follow along my journey this month and see how it goes!

I hope both you and Jeremy are feeling better! I love that pic of you guys on the beach.

It has been brutally hot this summer, even here in Chicago. My run this morning was a complete bust, so I just walked home and caught Pokemon. I’m so pathetic. I’ve got a half marathon in December–I’ll start building mileage once it cools down a bit.

Thank you!! As much as I’m not ready for summer to end, I am ready for cooler weather to run in! Pokemon made me laugh! 🙂

Happy 7 yr anniversary! I’m glad both of you are feeling better. And yes, time flies. Faster and faster it seems. I don’t wanna wish summer away but a little break in heat once in awhile would be good.

Thanks! That’s all I need is a short break in the heat and I’m good. Or just for it to drop under 100! Lol

Happy Anniversary to you guys! Where was that vacation picture taken? The sand is so beautiful and white! At least your husband, you, and your running partner all got the sick out of the way. Good luck with all of your August plans and have fun achieving them!! Enjoy the rest of Sunday Funday!!

Happy Anniversary! I hope you are both feeling better. I let May and June get away from me with my poor eating and lower running miles. But, I think it’s good to have those breaks too. Mentally, we need to step away from running occasionally. You’ve got some great August goals. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the cleanse. I’m not sure I could do that. What November half marathon are you thinking about? Thanks for linking, Tara!

I think it was good for me to take a little break. I’m excited about the cleanse and hope it works well. I’m thinking about the Route 66 in Tulsa.

Happy Anniversary! What a lovely photo of you two on the beach.

I really hope you can get back to running further without feeling sick. Hopefully as we get to the cooler weather that will help.

Happy Anniversary! We still have all of August to go in summer, so I’m not getting sad about it being over yet!

That’s true! It just feels like it is flying by so fast though!

Happy Anniversary. I too have problems running right now out side. I find the humidity and I just do not do well. There have been a couple of times where I had to cut my work out short because I was about to get sick.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one! I’m really hoping it’s not the humidity and once it cools down it will all go away.

    Happy Anniversary!

Let me know what you think of the cleanse! I’ve been looking for a healthy, real cleanse and not fake or unhealthy one. And 10 days seems like the perfect amount of time!

Thank you! I will definitely post about the cleanse when it’s all over and let you know how it goes!

Let me know how that cleanse goes! I am still eating like I am on vacation and need to get back on track… no more champagne with every meal 😉

I will! I was eating like that too until Monday. It’s so hard to stop! LOL

I hope the cleanse helps your stomach issues!! I always feel so much better and stronger after a cleanse!

I’m thinking about doing a half marathon in November, too! But I’m afraid that once I commit, I’ll injure myself somehow! Lol!!

I hope you have a great week!!

Lol you sound like me. I “train” but I don’t sign up until the last minute’

Aw man…hope that you are both feeling better this week! Stomach issues are so bad because you cant really even do much for them!

Lol that what Jeremy’s reason for not wanting to go to the doctor was. He didn’t know what to tell them except that his stomach hurt.

  13. Tricia Vaughn

I hope yall are feeling better. It is so easy to get dehydrated too with this heat! We have had 105-110 degree heat index for the past week. I can not even imagine running after 8AM here. Just too dang hot!

    1. Profile photo of Tara

It is ridiculous! You look like your staying cool on the lake though! I wish we had one close so I could kayak!

  14. San

Happy anniversary! Oh, and I hope you guys are both feeling better. What an up-and-down week.

Thanks! We are both much better!

Happy your 7th anniversary. I hope both of you better soon. The weather is really not support for training. Temperature and humidity can easily affect our health. By the way, I like the picture took on the beach, You two look very nice.
