Hi Guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve had a new post. We’ve been on a fiesta/siesta, but now I’m back! Jeremy and I just got back from a much-needed, amazing vacation in the Bahamas! It was the best vacation I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to share it all with you. I have tons of pictures and videos for you to see. Since we were gone so long, and we did so many fun things, I will have to break it up so you’re not spending hours reading one post!
We stayed on an absolutely beautiful beach with crystal clear turquoise water. We ate lots of delicious food. And, we had a great time spending time focusing on each other with no distractions. We are probably the only people that do this and everyone thinks we’re crazy, but we don’t care. When we get on the plane we turn our phones off, and we don’t turn them back on until we land at home a week later. It’s so nice to spend 8 days completely unplugged from everything. It was like we were in our own world with no worries, no responsibilities, and no stress. It was awesome!
We left last Monday to go to Dallas to stay the night because we had an early flight Tuesday morning. We left early Monday so we could do some shopping and get to bed early since we had to get up in the middle of the night to catch the shuttle to the airport. Before we left, I fit in a quick run and then finished packing.
After my run we said goodbye to Jake and were on the road!
We stopped and got a snack about half way.
Once we got to Dallas, we shopped and then ate dinner at Uncle Julio’s. It’s one of my favorite Mexican restaurants.
Then we were in bed by 9:45. We were supposed to get up at 3:30, but I woke up at 1:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. I finally got up around 2:45 and was ready to go. Our shuttle picked us up at 4:30 and we were on our way.
Security was a breeze and we had time to grab some breakfast at McDonald’s before our flight. I am not a coffee drinker but I desperately needed some caffeine!
We had to fly to Charlotte and catch another plane to Nassau. I tried to sleep on the plane, but it was a full flight and was pretty loud. Plus, we only had a 47 minute layover (poor planning) in Charlotte so I was worried that we wouldn’t make the connecting flight. But, we did make it with 30 minutes to spare.
We stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau. Once we got through immigration at the airport, we were at the resort in 20 minutes.
Driving up, the resort was beautiful! I couldn’t wait to see the beach and the water! Check in took a little while. There seemed to be a mix up with our room. When we got to the room that they gave us, I saw why. That room was fixed for someone on their honeymoon.
And, we had booked an ocean view room, and this was our view.
But, no worries, they moved us the next day to a better room with a better view. Since we were going to be moving, we didn’t have to unpack. We had a couple of hours before dinner so we went exploring. The beach was the first place we went and it was breathtaking! The water was so blue, the sand was so white, and there were so many palm trees! I was in heaven!
We walked around the resort figuring out where everything was for a while and then we got ready for dinner.
Since we were returning Sandals guests, we were invited to an exclusive dinner party.
There was a cocktail party and meet and greet before dinner. We only went for about five minutes of that. Dinner was served in the ballroom and it was very fancy!
They had told us it was like a gala, so we thankfully dressed up. One of the couples we ate with did not get that memo and was pretty upset since they came in wearing their cover ups. We were served a four course meal.
Jeremy and I shared our entrees. I ate his lobster and he ate my steak. It was great!
At the end of the dinner, we were gifted with a liter of rum and a rose. We still have our liter from last year. Shows what kind of drinkers we are not. After dinner we stopped by the nightly show, but we only got to see the end of it because dinner lasted so long. It was a psychic and he was really good. I don’t really believe in that stuff, but he asked if the name Reeva meant anything to anyone and a girl jumped up and was clearly moved by it. She said that was her mom. Then he started telling her lots of stuff about her and she was crying. It was a weird experience. When the show ended, we really tired from traveling so we headed back to the room to get some sleep.
I woke up at 6:00 on Wednesday morning (which was 5 am my time) and went out to explore and watch the sunrise. It was pretty cool being the only one on the beach!
I walked around for over an hour taking pictures and just watching the ocean. Then I went and woke Jeremy up so we could eat breakfast. The breakfast buffet had anything you could want on it. Seriously, they even had pork and beans and I saw people eating them. I chose a green smoothie, yogurt, sausage, and eggs. I have no idea what was in the smoothie, but it was really tasty! The yogurt was hot, so I didn’t end up eating it.
After breakfast we hung out on the beach and at the pool for the rest of the morning.
We also ran up and unpacked quickly once they had our bags moved to our new room. We had pizza for lunch. They have the best pizza!
Then we hopped on the boat and went over to check out the private island. This island is tiny.
I have never been on an island that small. You could stand on one side and see the beach on the other side. We walked around it and then relaxed in the water hammock.
This was probably my favorite place. It was beautiful and peaceful. There weren’t many people on the island. We stayed there until late in the afternoon just lounging around enjoying the sun.
After getting cleaned up, we took some pictures before dinner.
And, we sat on the dock and watched the sunset. It was beautiful!
We went to Baccarat for dinner. It is a gourmet restaurant. It was also really fancy. I ordered the crab cake for my appetizer. (The pics are dark because the restaurants are all very dimly lit and I couldn’t find a setting on my camera that would take a clear, bright picture.)
Our entree was served with a cover on it.
I had lamb chops for my meal. This was the first time I had ever eaten lamb and I really liked it! The vegetables were not cooked and were not very good though. I will say that all of their food is very rich and is covered in some kind of sauce. I enjoyed the majority of it, but my stomach didn’t always agree. That’s probably because I’m not used to such rich food.
After dinner we went to the nightly show. It was a reggae show and we loved it!
When the show was over, we went to the pub to hang out and Jeremy wanted a snack. He didn’t like his dinner much. So, he had some hot wings and cheese sticks. The cheese sticks were really good. I didn’t like the hot wings because the dressing tasted like straight mayonnaise. We hung out there until almost midnight and then headed back to the room to go to bed.
The first day was pretty much about relaxing and getting familiar with the resort. For some reason I was up before the sun came up every day for the rest of the week. I don’t know if it was because the bed was so comfortable that I slept really good in it or that I was just so excited that I wanted to get up and get going. Jeremy said that he felt like I was go, go, go all week. Which I guess was good. I felt like I stayed pretty active. I did get some runs in and a lot of long walks. Every day I had over 20,000 steps on my fitbit, and that was just from wearing it in the mornings and at night. I didn’t wear it during the day when we were in the pool or ocean. I have so much more to share about the rest of the week. Make sure to come back to read the rest!
