Running & Resting

Hi All!  I hope you all had a great 4 day work week!  I had a busy week, and I was exhausted after the holiday weekend.  This was not a good running/working out week.  I did get some runs and workouts in, but I also had to get a lot of rest.  Sometimes you just have to listen to your body before you get sick or hurt!  Here’s how my week went.  

Monday – Happy July 4th!  I hope you had a great day and were able to celebrate!  I had a great time celebrating with family.  You can read all about it on my July 4th Weekend recap.   

Tuesday – I had plans to run with my new friend Shannon today, but I had to cancel.  As bad as I felt about canceling, I really don’t think I would have been able to run.  I was super tired and I didn’t get much sleep.  I got up early to go with Jeremy to take care of some work stuff.  He had to go out of town for the morning.  We got back around noon and met his dad and aunt and uncle for lunch at a local cafe.  I ordered breakfast.  I had an omelet with bell peppers, bacon, and cheese.  It was so good!

After lunch, I rode with Jeremy to look at a couple of new jobs and pick up supplies.  By the time we got home, it was almost 4, and I had a lot to do.  I still had to unpack from the weekend and I did 3 loads of laundry.  While the laundry was going, I did suffered through a 25 minute tabata workout.  My cousin has me hooked now!  It’s quick and I feel like I’ve done a lot.  It’s not easy, so I enjoy the challenge too.  I’m going to keep working on it, so next time we’re together I can keep up with her!  

I also had to run to Wal-mart for a couple of things, and I picked up some sushi for dinner.  This was a different kind than they had last time.  It was shrimp and avocado.  It wasn’t very good at all.  In fact, I didn’t eat very much of it, and then my stomach hurt.

We have a new Japanese restaurant in town and they have a sushi menu.  Next time I want some, I’m going to order it from there!  When it cooled off, I took Jake for a long walk.

Tuesday night I tried to get to bed early, but Jeremy had to umpire and his games ran late.  He didn’t get home until after 10.  Then we watched Arranged.  Has anyone else seen this show?  It’s on FYI and the different customs are so interesting to me.  It’s about how people enter into an arranged marriage and it follows three couples.   It’s another reality tv show that I’m addicted to!  It was close to midnight before we got to bed.

Wednesday – I woke up at 7 this morning to meet Shannon for a run.  I felt awful when I got out of bed!  My whole body was achy and I was so tired.  I think not getting any sleep this weekend finally caught up to me.  But, I ran anyways.  It turned out to be a pretty good run.  I got 4 miles in.  It was overcast and there was a cool breeze blowing.  So for most of the run it was nice.  Towards the end, the sun came out to warm us up and it started sprinkling, which was really nice!

Once we got done running, I took Jake for a walk and we went to pick blackberries.  He loves to eat them off the vine, so I have to keep an eye on him to make him stop!  I quit when he got too hot.

After I showered, I took a nap.  I needed it bad!  I slept for 3 hours!  When I got up, I figured I would be hungry but I wasn’t.  I hadn’t eaten anything all day!  I really hoped I wasn’t getting sick.  So I made sure to drink a ton of water.  I still didn’t feel good, even after my nap.  So, I took it easy and spent most of the day on the couch.  

I didn’t even have any kind of appetite until 6:30!  I snacked on some blackberries until dinner.  Then I made breakfast because it was the only thing that sounded good.  I also went to bed early and slept all night.  

Thursday – When I woke up today, I still wasn’t feeling great.  And, on top of that, I was wheezing and my inhaler wasn’t helping. I decided against a run and went back to bed for a couple of hours.  When I got up, I took Jake to pick blackberries again.  He got hot and laid in the shade in the middle of the bushes.

I’m trying to get enough to give some to my mom and grandma.  It was pretty hot since it was the middle of the morning so Jake didn’t last long.  We only stayed about 20 minutes.

I went home and got ready to meet Jeremy in town to run some errands.  Then I baked some banana nut muffins from Simply Taralynn.  She posted the recipe that morning and when I saw it I knew I was making them right then! She used walnuts in hers but I only had pecans so I used those.  These muffins were awesome!  And they were so easy to make!  I whipped these up in about 30 minutes!

I was still feeling a little under the weather so I took it easy again today.  I watched a lot of tv and got ahead on some blogging.  Later in the evening, I attempted a tabata workout.  I made it 20 minutes.  Then, once I rested I did some light ab work before dinner.    

I got a text from my dad today that said he had decided to not start training for the marathon in November, but to wait and run one in April.  I was actually relieved!  My body is not ready to start training again.  I’m still struggling some with getting nauseous when I run.  Before we start training, if I’m still having a hard time, then I’m going to see my doctor.  (I’m stubborn and keep thinking it will go away.  And, it has gotten better, but it’s not gone yet.)  

Friday – Yay!  TGIF!  I slept all night, which is unusual, but I felt great when I woke up at 6:30!  I texted Shannon to see if she wanted to run and she was in! We headed out early and it was cloudy and windy, which was so nice!  I ran 3.5 with her, and then I ran another 1.5 on my own.

When we finished, I took Jake to pick more blackberries.  I took him a bowl and a bottle of water today.  He drank all of it in the first 10 minutes we were there.  So, we didn’t stay long again because he was hot.  The rest of the day was spent helping Jeremy work in the yard and resting some more.  I did feel a little better today, so hopefully that was a good sign.  But, I had Jeremy pick me up some Propel when he was in town.  For some reason, I was really sore after my run.  I downed it!  🙂

I’m going to take it easy until I feel 100%!  I’m also going to eat a lot of fruits and veggies and take some Vitamin C.  I don’t have time to be sick!  This week flew by, and I guess it’s because it was a 4 day week.  I rested more than I ran, but my body was screaming for it!  Next week will be better!

    Aww how fun that Jake picks blackberries with you. I bet it’s funny seeing him eat them off the vine. Even though black berries are great anti-oxidents, are they good for dogs?

      No they’re not good for dogs! That’s probably why he likes them so much! I looked it up a couple of years ago after he ate a ton of them off the vine. I really have to watch him when he goes so he won’t eat them.

    It’s always best to listen to your body. I hope you will feel better soon. Some days I have very low energy, but I haven’t figured out why. I guess it could just be cumulative fatigue? I love blackberries. I will usually make a cobbler once or twice during the summer. I wish I knew a place I could pick them. I have not seen Propel. I’ve always used Gatorade Endurance for my hydration on runs so I’m a big G fan. Thanks for linking, Tara! Hope you have a great week.

      I like the propel but I haven’t been able to find any cases of the unflavored. I love blackberry cobbler and I always make some!! Thanks for hosting!

    I’m going to say Walmart may not be the best place to get sushi. I’m not even sure ours has it. But I bet you know that now lol. I woke up really early Saturday to meet up with friends for a run. I ended up just getting 5 hours of sleep so you know what I did after I got back home? Showered and took a 2 hour nap! Man it felt great too! Boy your muffins look amazing. I’ve been on a muffin kick here lately.

      Lol I have definitely figured out that Walmart sushi is no Bueno! I am loving getting the runs done early, but some days I just need a nap! Those muffins were awesome! You should try them!

    Tara – I think it’s a wise thing to take it easy when your body is calling for it. It’s just doesn’t help your running if you’re pushing too much when you really should be resting. I’m still debating also whether I should run a Fall Marathon or whether I should wait ’til the Spring. It’s hard to telly with all this humidity right now – it really puts such a damper on running. Have a great week! Stay cool and hydrated!
    Btw I would love to see Jake eating the blackberries right off the vine – priceless! 🙂

      The humidity is killer! I absolutely cannot breathe in it. I enjoyed training last spring. The weather was great! I am bad about not wanting to rest. I think I push until it gets to that point where I have no choice but to rest. And then it’s like several days. I really need to work on that! Jake tries to be sneaky about it now because he knows he’s not supposed to have them. That’s even funnier. He’ll act like he’s smelling them, and then have a little nibble. 🙂 He’s funny!

    It’s always good to pay attention to your body. Nobody is taking count of your miles and sometimes rest > running… simple as that! 🙂

      I know..I really need to work on resting…and actually resting when I do take a day off. I got the black shirt at Old Navy and the blue one is an Under Armour from Academy.

    Chester used to love mowing in wild raspberries as we walked. He loved pretty much everything. Lola is not into berries, no doubt too hard to eat with her underbite. Bandit is not terribly food motivated except for a few things and I thank God we found some things he’ll at least eat!

      Thank you! I have never seen an animal that isn’t food motivated! That’s kind of funny!!

    Jake is so handsome! Our lab Gus will eat ANYTHING, Brussels sprouts, caesar salad, frozen chicken (don’t ask :-)), etc. I have not tried the Propel, I use Skratch electrolyte replacement. My stomach is sensitive and that is easy on the belly. It comes in powder form, so I have to mix it.
