How Often Do You Race?

Hi Everybody!  Welcome to this Tuesday’s edition of Tuesday’s on the Run.  I’m linking up today with PattyErika, and Marcia.  Tuesday’s are quickly becoming my most favorite day to post because we get to talk about running!  Running is my favorite and I love to talk about it!  Especially with people who love it as much as I do! Today’s topic is how often do you race?

So, how often do I race?  Unfortunately not as often as I would like to. (Insert sad face here)  I would love it if I could race every weekend – literally!  Or at least every other weekend.  But, the problem that I have is that my town only has local races a couple of times a year.

If I am going to race, we have to drive at least an hour and half to two hours to get to a race.  Since most races have a 6:30 am start, we would either have to get up in the middle of the night or stay in a hotel the night before.  For a big race, I would definitely want to stay the night before so I could get some rest.  This would be a huge expense.  Plus, we can’t be out of town every weekend.  If there were more races within driving distance, I would definitely race as much as I could.

For this reason, I have thought about virtual races.  While it would be nice to get a medal, it just wouldn’t be the same.  Race day is full of excitement and adrenaline.  I love being around so many other runners.  It’s just so much fun to experience that.  But, since that’s not possible for me all the time, I may try a virtual run and see how I like it.  I guess I could have Jeremy wait for me at my driveway (finish line) and cheer me on!  LOL

Right now, I race as much as possible.  That means that when we have a clear weekend, I will try and find a race in a town where we have relatives so we can stay with them.  But, that doesn’t always work out.  Basically, it’s probably every couple of months, which really stinks.  But, I love it when I get to to!

Yeah, racing is expensive… especially when they’re not within driving distance (and I wouldn’t call 1-2 hours away within driving distance when the race starts so early in the morning).

(Came over from the link up – new to the community but love to talk (and read) about running 🙂

I don’t race as much as I’d like mainly because of the cost and my schedule. But I always keep a good base of mileage so when I do have time for a race I don’t have to worry about stressing over a training plan before hand.

That’s what I like to do too. I never know when I’m going to have a free weekend, so I like to be ready just in case!

I live in Philly, and I have to admit that we are spoiled in that we have races just about every weekend. I don’t think I’d race often if I had to drive 1.5 hours each time. I’ve done virtual races before and they can be really relaxing, which I do like! I think it helps break things up a bit, plus you get some nice swag!

I’ve heard that about the virtual races. I think I’m going to try one soon! I’m jealous that you have so many races all the time!

I race way too much LOL. Luckily, I live near DC, so I can pretty much find a race within an hour of my house every weekend. Probably not a good thing.

I would love to be able to do that. I think racing every weekend would keep me motivated to get out during the week. Or at least I would feel like I had a goal to be running for.
