Hi Friends!  Happy Father’s Day!  This week was full of working out and good food!  I actually was a morning runner three days this week, and loved it!  The heat is forcing me to run in the mornings. It is still a little tough to get started, but once my body wakes up, it’s great!   My time isn’t great on these morning runs, because it takes me a good half mile – mile to fully wake up.  But I’m getting it done and I love that it’s done first thing in the morning.  I’m going to keep this up and hopefully become a morning runner and improve my time!  

Monday – I immediately headed out for a run as soon as I woke up.  I wanted to try running without eating, and also I wanted to run before it got so hot.  I ran 5 miles in 100% humidity with no upset stomach!  I was super excited!

Monday night, Jeremy and I grilled out.  We cooked so much food, that we had enough left over for another meal on Tuesday night.  We grilled steaks, chicken, zucchini, and squash.  I also made baked sweet potatoes and salad.  It was late when we ate, so I didn’t eat very much, but it sure was good!

Also on Monday, I made my first ever cheesecake.  It didn’t look very good, but it tasted great!  It was super rich, so I only had a couple of bites of it before bed.

Tuesday – I was up most of the night feeling sick and then I woke up with a headache and was feeling a little under the weather.  I was actually worried that it was the cheesecake since it was the first time I had made it.  I wondered if I had done something wrong and had given us food poisoning.  But, I only had a couple of bites and Jeremy ate a whole piece, so I ruled that out.  I had planned on running, but it was storming, so I stayed in bed until I felt a little better.  I don’t know if I was getting sick, or was just really tired, but it kind of hung on all day.  I drank a ton of water and took my vitamin C.  Jake also woke up sick.  He kept coughing and gagging.  Usually he’ll do that and cough something up, but he didn’t.  He coughed and gagged for three hours!  I laid in the floor with him until he went to sleep and when he woke up he was better.

I rested the whole day and got ahead on some blogging.  I did go with Jeremy to take Jake for a short walk later in the evening and by dinner, I felt much better. 

Jeremy ate the leftovers from Monday night, but they didn’t sound good to me.  I fixed some eggs and toast for myself. 

Wednesday – Today was my birthday!  I woke up at 7:15 and headed out to run.  It was already almost 90 degrees!  I ran 4 miles and didn’t get sick!  I honestly had wanted to stay in bed and take the day off since it was my birthday.  But I didn’t, and I was so glad that I didn’t!  I felt great after that run, and it always makes me feel good to have 10,000 steps in before 10 am!

Around 11:30, I headed over to my parents and spent the afternoon in the pool.  It was so hot and the water felt great!  I treated myself to an afternoon of relaxing and tanning!

For my birthday, we went out to dinner with my family at my favorite Mexican restaurant.  (There really is nowhere else that we like to eat in our town except Mexican. )  Someone told them it was my birthday, so they brought out a sombrero for me to wear and sang happy birthday to me.  I hate being sung to in restaurants and my family knows it!  I don’t know which one of them told them it was my birthday! I did not put that hat on my head!  I did get a free fried ice cream, which my sister ate since I can’t eat ice cream.

After dinner, we headed over to my parents for cake and presents!  My favorite part!   My first present to open was from my grandma.  She seriously wrapped a card!  It made me laugh so hard.  She said she wanted me to have a present to open and not just a card.  It did have cash in it!    I got some great presents from my family!

I was really excited about my birthday cake.  My mom made a from scratch strawberry cake.  It’s my favorite!   But, when she took it out of the oven, it had actually shrunk!  It didn’t even cover the bottom of the pan and was only about an inch tall.  It was hilarious!  She couldn’t figure out what she had done wrong.  So, she had gone and bought me a Hershey’s chocolate cake.

I did try the strawberry cake, and it was okay, but it just didn’t taste the same.  But that’s okay because it was really funny!   We sat around visiting until almost 10, and then we headed home. 

Thursday – I did not sleep well Wednesday night and ended up only sleeping about 3 hours.  So, Thursday morning I overslept a little and missed my run.  I got up around 9 and it was already 97, which was way too hot.  I think it’s the humidity, but the air is just heavy.  It makes it so hard to breathe.  So, I did an Insanity plyometric cardio circuit.  When I finished it, I took a break for a few minutes and then did my own circuit workout.  I did 5 rounds of 20 squats, followed by 60 weighted side bends, 50 Russian twists, and then 20 pushups.  (I actually did wall pushups and only made it to 60 total.  My arms were on fire and were shaking!) 

I finally tried out my Garmin heart rate monitor.  I thought it was really interesting to see how it went up and down through the Insanity circuit.  It stayed pretty elevated throughout the whole thing, but it would drop during certain moves.  During my circuit, it stayed consistent except during the pushups.  It’s because I have no upper body strength and these are hard for me!

Thursday night I made fajitas for dinner!  I used thin cut chicken breast and thin cut steak meat.  They were really good, and we had a lot leftover.

Friday – I got up early to run before it got hot and I made it!  It was warm, but comfortable.  I ran 4 miles and then took Jake on a mile walk.  It was perfect outside and he didn’t want to go in.

Then I got ready to go run some errands.  I still had to pick up one more Father’s Day gift.  I am the worst at waiting until the last minute!    

After that, I hung around the house all day with Jake.  He loves it when I’m home! We picked the first pepper out of our garden.  I know it’s tiny, but the plant was tiny and it was starting to bend the plant.  It’s cute!

A Quiet Week New Blog Post 6-5-16 (3) 

I noticed all week that our neighbors had him locked in their yard.  They fixed the gate so he couldn’t get out, and he wasn’t outside after dark, or early in the mornings when I would go run.  Thursday evening I was walking across the street, and he came running to see me.  My neighbor was out in the yard with Charlie and her kids.  I asked her if they had taken him in, and she said yes, this week!   She said that a couple of months ago a lady that was working on our road stopped and said that he was her dog.  She said she recognized him by his ear that stands straight up.  She told my neighbor that she had lost him about a year ago in this area.  (Which is about how long he’s been around here.) She said she was going to come get him.  She finally showed up early this week and was going to take him, but saw him playing with the kids and asked if they just wanted to keep him.  They said yes since he’s been hanging around here anyways.  So, they took him to the vet on Wednesday and got him all fixed up.  I’m so happy he has a home, and he seems really happy following her two kids around.  And, his name is Buster.  It makes me so happy when an animal gets a second chance!

    Happy birthday! Sounds like you had a great week. Lola has some sort of allergy & she gags a lot — she went through a period lately when she was throwing up, just a little, so every time she gags I’m on red alert.

    We’re in the 90s, but thankfully just a couple of days & then it’ll go back to normal.

      Thankfully Jake never threw up. It scares me when he does that. I’m always afraid he’s choking. The 90s is cool for us now. We won’t see any temps less than that until September!

    Belated Happy Birthday. Wow, that is a sad story about Charlie. It seems like the original owner would have found him before now. It’s nice he has a new family.

      Thank you!! He broke my heart! I can’t stand to see stray dogs or hungry dogs. Especially when they are as sweet as he is. He just wanted someone to pet him and he would sit forever just letting you pet him. It makes me so sad. But I’m so happy he has a home now!

    Happy Birthday! It’s the thought that counts with the strawberry cake. I know your Mom is probably still wondering what happened. The chocolate one looks yummy too! I’m so glad to hear you are adapting to your early morning runs. I sleep during my first mile or two. That’s why I find it easier to do a progressive run. LOL. I’m glad Charlie’s (Buster’s) story has a happy ending. I love that one of his ears is down and the other is up! Thanks for linking with us Tara.

      Thank you!! My mom is cracking me up. She has gone over all the ingredients to make sure she didn’t leave anything out! The chocolate one was rich!! I guess I’m still asleep during my first couple of miles – at least my body is! But I am starting to enjoy them! Thanks for hosting!!

    I’ve never been a morning runner but in the summer I HAVE to be!

    My yellow Labrador started this gagging thing lately. She never coughs anything up though. I’m hoping it’s just hair in her mouth or something since she sheds so much. If it continues I’m going to contact my vet. Hope things are okay with Jake too.

      Thanks! I’m trying to stay cool! It is 100 degrees today and I didn’t get my run in this morning, so hopefully it will cool off tonight for a run! I did have a great birthday. Thank you!

    I too have almost always gotten my runs done in the morning. I like it so much better too! Being at the campground we’ve done a lot of grilling and steaks, chicken, zucchini, and squash are staples!
    Happy late birthday to you, I hate being the center of attention too even for dessert!
