My Life This Week

Hi Friends!  I can’t believe another week has already gone by!  It feels like I was just sitting down yesterday to write a weekly recap.  Summer is definitely here.  This week our temperatures heated up quickly!  I had to get up really early to run before the days got too hot.  And you know I am not a morning runner!  But, I got it done. I really didn’t do much this week besides eating and running!  

Monday – We had company here today, so we just hung out all day.  We went out to lunch, and then hung around the house the rest of the afternoon.  Jeremy and his dad mowed the lawns and Aunt Sandra and I made not one, but two trips to Walmart to pick up some things for dinner.  I finally tried the sushi from there, and I was pleasantly surprised.  I will be getting it again.  I got a California roll without cream cheese and it was really good!

After dinner, we sat around watching softball until late that night.  During the game I was shopping online for some summer dresses and I also got some blogging done. 

Tuesday – We got up this morning and all headed to town to run some errands.  When we finished that, we went to lunch.  I ordered breakfast.  (I love restaurants that serve breakfast all day!)  Then we went home to get ready.  Cousin M got baptized at church camp Tuesday night, so we all went to watch. I am so proud of her!

I slacked off Monday and Tuesday on running and working out.  I did do squats each day.  Even though May is over, I started the Squat Away May challenge again on June 1st.  Since I slacked off so much, the rest of the week I made sure to get my runs and some workouts in. 

Wednesday – I got up early today so I could get ready to run.  I have been trying to figure out something to eat before my runs that will not upset my stomach.  I ate a granola bar and drank a bottle of water and then waited an hour before running.   Before running, I took Jake for a walk and we got chased by a mini weenie dog!  Jake just ignored it.  After that I ran three miles and had to stop because it got super hot really quick!

I sat on the patio with Jake for about an hour to cool off.  It was nice in the shade with a breeze blowing.  He ended up laying in the yard.

Later in the afternoon, I did an ab and an arm workout.  Then, Jeremy and I took Jake for a walk and he got to see all of his friends.  Actually he doesn’t have anything to do with them.  They just follow us and Jake ignores them, so that’s why he’s not in any of the pictures.

Later that night, we were watching TV and there was a dog on the screen.  Jake jumped up and ran to see it.  He kept looking all around the TV trying to figure out where it was!

Thursday – I got up early again today to try and beat the heat.  It didn’t work.  I ran 2 hours earlier today and it was so much hotter than Wednesday.  I guess I’m going to have to start getting up before the sun comes up.  Before my run, I took Jake for a walk.  I was actually going to wait until after my run, but as soon as I put my shoes on he got all excited and started following me to the door.

So we walked first and then I ran three and a half miles.  It was so humid and that made it hard to breathe.  I did better today as far as feeling sick.  My stomach didn’t bother me as much, so hopefully that is a good sign!

After running, I did some strength training . 

Around lunch time, I headed over to my parents to hang out in their pool.  This is why I can’t get Jeremy to build me one because he says I can go to their house anytime I want…which is true.  My dad aired up a float for me, and then I relaxed for a couple of hours.

 I did try some pool running.  It wasn’t hard, but it is boring.  I made it 25 minutes.  Holly – I have a whole new respect for you!  I have no idea how you do this for hours!  There’s no way I could! 

 When I got out of the pool, I sat and visited with my mom for a little while, and then I walked over to my grandma’s to visit with her. 

Friday – I got up even earlier today to try and get my run in.  I got up at 7:30, and it was already 86 degrees with 95% humidity!  Jake and I sat on the patio until 8:30, and then I headed out.  It was hot, but there was a cool breeze blowing.  I made it two miles and then Jeremy called and needed me to come to the bank.  


We switched banks today because we were having a lot of trouble with our bank.  They were doing a lot of stuff that I don’t think was legal.  So, we switched to another bank that we can trust.  We spent the morning opening new accounts and closing other ones.  Now it’s done and I’m so glad!  

When I got back home, I walked Jake around for a little bit until he got hot.  Then I did some strength training and I tried to brush Jake, but he won’t ever sit still!   

This was another pretty quiet week. The forecast for this next week shows high temps and several days of rain. I’ll have to try and fit in my runs around those two. My birthday is also this next week so that means cake!! I’m hoping its my moms homemade strawberry cake!

    My lab does the same thing when I put my running shoes on, she practically does back flips cus she thinks I’m gonna take her with. I feel bad on days I don’t.

    We finally opened our pool today an our Labrador loves to swim. Does Jake swim in your parent’s pool?

      Jake doesn’t get to swim in their pool, but he would love too. We have a kiddie pool for him that he swims in during the summer, and we also take him our neighbor’s pond sometimes. He loves water and swimming! He would be happy playing in a sprinkler. LOL

    Tara – I love how real and honest your training logs are. On some days we just can’t run as efficiently as others and that’s okay. Congrats on trying Pool Running! I have never tried it – but it’s supposed to be so effective! The humidity is really bad here in Palm Beach, too, putting a real damper and pace and mileage. Hope you’re having a fun Birthday Week coming up and Enjoy that Cake! 🙂

      Thank you! 🙂 I will enjoy my cake! I can’t wait for it! LOL I’ve heard pool running is effective too. I’m going to start doing it at least for a little while each time I go to the pool.

    I don’t eat before I run unless I’m going for more than an hour. That really helps keep my tummy calm!

    I did pool running when I was training for Big Sur and yep, it’s boring. I bought a waterproof iPod shuffle and that helped a ton. I’m probably going to head back to the pool to give my foot a day off. It’s still bothering me.

      I hope your foot gets better soon! I will definitely take some music with me next time I run in the pool. I did try a couple of days to run as soon as I got up, and I did okay. I may keep trying that and see how it works. Thanks!

    Tara, I was a on a mission when I did all that pool running! You are right. It’s boring. But, you do what you have to do at the tine. I eat about a half of yogurt (Oikos) if I’m going to run 5 miles or more. I found I could eat it and head right out the door and not wait. Just a thought, if you like yogurt. Also, I don’t drink much prior to a run because it sloshes around and makes me feel bad. I do drink DURING a hot run though. Happy Birthday early. I hope you enjoy your week.       Thanks for the tip! I may try a half a yogurt. Yogurt always seemed to settle quickly! I’m trying to drink more water during the day and that seems to be helping!

    I agree about the whole pool running thing. I am in awe of anyone who can do that for a long time. It just would not work for me. Our dog looks at the TV too, and sometimes barks if she hears barking from a TV dog. The summer heat is miserable for running and I too struggle with it. But I keep telling myself fall PR’s and good races are made from summer training.

    Oh I wish I had access to a pool when the weather is so nice! It must have been so relaxing! I’ve never tried pool running, doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, lol! My boyfriend and I are moving to a house and thinking about maybe getting a dog, it looks like it would be fun to run with/walk with!

      He is so much fun to run and walk with! He also keeps me active because he always wants to go for a walk! You should get one…and then get a pool! 😉

    I also am not a morning runner, but in the summer it just has to be that way :/ I struggle with eating before running but a banana an hour beforehand normally sits alright in my stomach. Relaxing in the pool looks so great! There is one at my new apartment complex. I went yesterday but it was too windy for my liking. I need to get myself a float!

      There is nothing better in the summer than lounging on a float in the pool! It’s my favorite thing to do! I tried running last night and it was still too hot, so I had to get up early this morning. I really don’t enjoy that! Lol

    I so wish I had a pool! You’re lucky to live so close to your parents who have one. And I’m glad the stomach problems are getting better too! I love reading your recaps.

    I’m going to have to agree with Jeremy on the pool issue. Enjoy all the benefits of a pool without all the upkeep and expense! But wait how far away are your parents anyway?

    Glad your stomach’s feeling better! Thats so tough! I love love love sushi–its one of my favorites. Rainy days I love to watch movies, cook/bake, read, clean, and shop!

    I usually wait until after my runs to eat. If I’m going for a long run, I’ll eat a Nature Valley fruit and nut bar and a banana about 30 minutes beforehand. Hope your tummy settles soon. It is so nice to relax by the pool after a tough run.

      Thanks! I didn’t eat before my run yesterday and did really well! So I’ll probably start doing that. I love being in the pool all the time! 🙂
