It’s Been a Quiet Week

Hi Guys!  Another week is behind us!  I hope it was a great one for you!  This week was really low key for me.  I didn’t do a lot , and was home almost all day every day. It was a nice quiet week!   Monday – you can read about Monday here.

Tuesday – I got up early Tuesday so I could try and get a run in before it started raining.  I wasn’t quick enough!  By the time I was ready to go out the door, it was storming.  I had to wait a couple of hours before it stopped.  Once it quit, Jake wanted to go for a walk first.  We went for a quick one because it was still thundering.  By the time we got home, the sun was peeking through the clouds so I headed out.

I ran/walked three miles and was drenched in sweat! It was so humid!  When I got home, I made a chocolate protein shake to cool off.

Then, Jake and I played outside with this little guy.

He’s been hanging around for a long time now.  He just roams from one house to another.  No one knows who he belongs to or where he came from.  He is so sweet and I am trying so hard to convince Jeremy to let me keep him.  It just kills me that he’s hungry all the time.  It makes me so sad.  I named him Charlie.  🙂

Wednesday – Happy Global Running Day!  I got up early again today to get a run in.  My run on Tuesday was not so great, so I wanted to make sure to run before it got too hot.  I fixed some oatmeal for breakfast and then cleaned my house while I waited on that to settle.  I finally headed out around 9, and it was overcast and cool.

I didn’t even make it a mile before my stomach was upset.  I pushed through running and walking until I got to 3 miles then I went home and laid in the floor until my stomach settled.

Since the marathon, my stomach has been bothering me every time I try to run.  Usually I can make it a couple of miles before it gets upset, but sometimes it’s not that far.  That’s the reason why I haven’t been running a lot or far.  I don’t know what the deal is. I start getting nauseous and then have to walk for a minute for it to stop.  Then I can run a little further before the nausea comes back.  It’s frustrating me!  I googled it and found out that maybe I am not hydrated enough??  I don’t know because I drink a ton of water.  I’m going to try drinking a lot more water and if that doesn’t help, I’m going to call my doctor and try to figure out what’s going on, and make sure it’s not something serious.

Later in the afternoon, Jeremy and I took Jake to the vet.  He has a knot on his shoulder, and it is kind of big and it was worrying me.  The vet looked at it, and said that it is a fatty tumor that is just attached to the skin, and won’t hurt him.  She said he needs to have his teeth cleaned, so when she does that, she will remove the tumor.  It was a huge relief that it wasn’t anything serious!

When we got back home we took Jake for a walk and visited with our neighbors for a little while.

Thursday – Today I slept in a little.  After my run on Wednesday, I didn’t feel very well the rest of the day.  My stomach hurt all day and I just felt tired.  I thought that if I got some extra sleep that maybe I would feel better.  I did feel a lot better when I got up.  It stormed all day, so it worked out that I was planning on taking a rest day from running.  I ran some errands in town and then played with Jake all afternoon.  I did do some strength training and I tried to do some ab workouts, but Jake kept standing over me putting his toy in my face or licking my face!

Thursday night Jeremy wanted sloppy joes for dinner.  LOL  Every time he wants these, I have Adam Sandler running through my mind singing sloppy joes….now you do too!

Friday – Jeremy and I went to visit his mom today.  When we got back, we took Jake for a short run.  He ran a half a mile and he was done!

It started sprinkling on us, so we sat on the back porch waiting for it to pass.  I was going to go run some more, but decided against it.  Instead, I went in and did some strength training.

My friend dropped off her fish for me to babysit while she goes on vacation this next week.  So, right now I have 3 bettas!  LOL   The one in the covered bowl is very feisty and jumps way out of the water!

And then this happened!

Yes that’s a toilet….I accidentally knocked the guards that go on Jeremy’s razor in the toilet and had to fish them out!

Saturday – I really wanted to try and run a long run today, but didn’t know if I would be able to or not.  I ate a banana and half a bowl of cereal and waited 2 hours before trying to run.  I made it 2 miles before my stomach started hurting, but it wasn’t too bad.  I slowed down to a walk for a minute and continued to run.  It wasn’t until almost three miles when my neighbor stopped me to talk that I actually felt nauseous.  I ran home and got a drink and then headed back out for another two miles.  I ended up making it 5.3 miles.

It was slow and I had to walk several times to settle my stomach, but it was better than it’s been.

This is what I found when I took my shoes off! 🙁

We checked on the garden today, and even though it’s been raining so much, there is stuff growing!

Sunday – I’m on my way out the door now to try and get in a few miles.  It is a beautiful day – warm with a cool breeze.  I’m going to shoot for 4 miles, but my stomach is not feeling very good, so we’ll see how it goes.

Update:  I ran 3.4 miles.  It was super hot!

Do you have any idea what could be causing all this stomach trouble??  Any ideas what I could do to make it stop?

So funny that you are “Fish sitting”.

That is sad about the dog that roams around. Looks like perhaps he wants to be a part of your family!

I want him to be apart of my family!! 🙂 he is so sweet! I just have to convince my husband.

Tara – I really hope that tummy ache will soon pass – it’s so annoying when we have aching pains during our runs and even worse when we can’t figure out what it is. Congrats on pushing through all this humidity though – it’s really not an easy thing to do and all that moisture in the air really makes breathing hard. Your pic of your sock made me smile – I had way too many socks looking like this throughout the years of running! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your running log – I love reading what other runners are up to and how their week went. Have a great Running week, Tara!

Thank you!! It’s so annoying when I have holes in my socks! And they were my favorite pair! Hope you have a great week too!

Are you using any gels when you run? I’m having a hard time with gels (any name, brand, etc.)…..I don’t feel sick when running, but a few hours afterwards…it’s nasty (I’ll just leave it at that). I have a favorite pair of Smart Wool socks that are close to having the toe poke through….I think I”m gonna sew it because there is no wear or tear anywhere else LOL

    1. Profile photo of Tara

I might see if I can sew mine too! I love that pair! LOL During my marathon training I tried gels and I couldn’t get them down. I have never had any trouble with them before, but they started making me nauseous. I used gummies and was able to get them down okay. Since my race, I haven’t used anything because I’m not running long enough for them. I hope you can figure it out and get better!

I wish I had something magic to say about your stomach, but perhaps try not eating before a run and have some gel or other fuel to take with you. I can’t imagine a banana on it’s own would be a problem either. That poor dog that is a stray loos so sad that i think you shold adopt him.

    1. Profile photo of Tara

I’ll try that tomorrow! Maybe just some gummies will work. I want to adopt him! 🙂

  5. HoHo Runs

It could be the heat and humidity causing your stomach distress. Do you drink something with electrolytes, not just water? I’ve always used Gatorade Endurance since I sweat so much. I also take salt capsules on really long runs. I hope you get it figured out quickly. Feeling nauseous is no fun!! Thanks for linking Tara!

I do drink Gatorade before long runs. Maybe I should try some salt capsules too. Thanks Holly!

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that you aren’t able to run like you want to. Since this started, have you tried fasted running? I know that doesn’t work for some people, but for me personally I run best in the morning when I haven’t eaten anything. Just a thought! Or have you switched up what you’re eating before runs? Anything new? It could definitely be the weather too if it’s that hot and humid…. anyways I hope it gets better for you!

P.s. I wish I had a dog that roamed around my neighborhood. Too cute!

    1. Profile photo of Tara

I have tried fasted running and it went okay. I just can’t run longer distances when I haven’t eaten. I have also tried every food that I have ever been able to eat before a run, and have not had any luck. The only thing that sort of worked was a banana. So, I’ll keep trying that. I haven’t done anything new. The last couple of weeks I’ve been trying different foods and trying to run at different times. I’ll just keep trying until I can find something that works. I do think a lot of it has to do with the heat. Charlie is super cute, and so sweet! Thanks for reading!

If I’m working out outside i often get stomach pains if its too humid outside and my stomach isnt empty. Maybe the humidity is messing with your stomach? Does it bother you when you do other types of workouts or just when youre running outside?

    1. Profile photo of Tara

I’m starting to think it could be the humidity and maybe I’m dehydrated. It has been bothering me all the time, not just when I’m running. I hope it’s just stress and not something serious…

  8. Tamieka

    Humidity is the worse.

If I am running, I usually don’t eat before hand. In the past, if I ate if often lead to a run (no pun intended ) to the bathroom. Sorry you are having to deal with that ;(

    1. Profile photo of Tara

Lol!! I’ll try a run without eating first and see if that works!

  9. Jenn

I love Charlie. I would be unable to let him continue to be homeless. I hope you get to keep him.

I am so sorry for your stomach troubles. I will get nauseous when it’s really hot and humid (I actually had to stop to throw up the other morning – it was so gross out). My stomach does get upset on longer runs, but I attribute a lot of that to not having a gallbladder and thus everything seems just a little more sensitive. I hope you get it figured out soon. i can’t imagine how frustrated you must be.

    1. Profile photo of Tara

I hope I get to keep him too!! I’m starting to wonder if it is the humidity because it started when the weather started getting warmer…who knows. I don’t have a gallbladder either, I didn’t know that would cause any problems. Interesting….

  10. Melissa Cunningham

OH you simply must adopt Charlie!!
and I have to agree with hollys comment about the heat/ humidity and salt capsules In regards to your tummy troubles. Perhaps Try smart water or propel sports water as it contains minerals as well as vitamins?
I do hope you can figure out the cause soon. A complete CBC blood panel will let you know if your potassium and sodium are out of balance. I know I am a big baby when my stomach is upset so there’s no way I even attempt to run once I start feeling icky. And just a side note, not to pry in your personal life, but is there a possibility you could pregnant? I found out about baby #3 when I started feeling sick during my runs. I thought I was just overdoing things in the gym or pushing myself too hard or even that my electrolytes were out of whack. I was having a hard time holding on to easy paces when running. I scheduled an appointment with my doctor because I thought I was sick. Found out I had a baby in my belly that caused all the ruckus
More than likely you have an imbalance of electrolytes as opposed to a baby in your belly, but hey stuff like that happens!
Here’s hoping you feel better soon and that Charlie finds his way to your home ASAP!

    1. Profile photo of Tara

Thanks for reading! I’m not pregnant! But your story made me laugh!! I’m hoping it’s just my electrolytes, or stress…I’m hoping Charlie finds a home soon too! He’s so sweet!

  11. Tricia Vaughn

Tara, I hope you figure out whats going on with your stomach soon. I know it can’t be fun to deal with that. I do have a suggestion for your sock problem though. Do like me, just swap socks, lol. That is until both of them get holes. Bahahaha!

    1. Profile photo of Tara

Lol that’s a good idea!! I don’t want to grow them away!

  12. Debra @HappyRunningSole

Sorry to hear about your stomach issues. Hope you can get to the bottom of what is causing it and get it resolved soon. Charlie is cute! Maybe your husband will eventually come around. Funny about you fish sitting. I had a Beta fish as a class pet for years.

Charlie is cute! I think/hope he’s wearing on my husband! I’ve heard beta’s live forever!
