Rainy Day Runs and Workouts

Hi friends!  I hope you all had a great week!  I had a very rainy week!  We had rain and storms just about every day this week, which can make it tough to stay active.  When I wake up and it’s raining, I don’t even want to get out of bed! Even though the weather forecast showed rain and storms for the next 15 days starting last Sunday night, I was able to still get out and get some runs in.  I also focused on a lot more strength training and core workouts.   I feel like I had a pretty active and productive week!  And, we did end up having a few days without rain!

Monday – When I got up on Monday it was raining, but my weather app showed a break in the rain around noon.  While I was waiting for the rain to stop, I fixed this awesome yogurt parfait!  It was filled with berry deliciousness!  I love fruit, especially in the summer!

Once it stopped raining, I took Jake for a walk. Afterwards, I headed out for a run.  About a mile into my run it started sprinkling pretty heavily, but I wasn’t quitting for that!  I kept going and the rain continued to get harder and harder.  I ended up running two miles in pouring rain.  Every time I would decide that I was going home, it would let up so I’d keep running.  But, then it would start pounding me again.  I finally just decided I was already soaked so why not just finish my run?

The rain is coming down hard in both pictures, but you can’t see it. 🙁

After running, I worked on Jeremy’s state tournament scrapbook all day!! Literally!   I was four state tournaments behind!

He sat by me all day!
He sat by me all day!

I took a break about 6 (when the rain stopped again) and took Jake for another walk.

This one was a complete disaster.  We got chased by one dog and while running away from it, encountered another dog that wasn’t happy to see us.  Luckily, Jeremy was close by and loaded Jake up in the truck and drove us home.  He said he’s going to get me a big stick or something to start carrying to defend us against all of these aggressive dogs that are suddenly around here.  I think they are being dumped and are aggressive because they’re hungry.  It’s sad, but it’s also frustrating that I am having such a hard time walking Jake and running without being chased.

I fixed some sandwiches for dinner.  Jeremy wanted sub sandwiches, but last time all that greasy meat hurt my stomach.  I fixed him one of those, and fixed myself a turkey and swiss sandwich.

After dinner I started noticing that Jake wasn’t acting like he felt very good.  He wouldn’t eat, and he wouldn’t get out of his bed.  We finally got him to go outside, but then he didn’t want to go up the two stairs from the garage into the house.  I was hoping he was just tired from all the running and walking, but when he wouldn’t go up the stairs it really worried me that his back was bothering him.  Jeremy put him up in the bed with us for a while, but I couldn’t go to sleep because I was afraid he would jump off and hurt himself.  So, Jeremy put him back on the floor and I laid next to his bed with him for a while.  He was being very cuddly.  (He hurt his back about four years ago, and could barely walk.  We have no idea what he did.  He was in so much pain and it was miserable to watch.  We had to take him to a pet hospital to get checked out.  He had a bulging disc.   Since then, he gets sore every now and then, but we are careful with him and he’s been okay.)   I ended up spending most of the night in the floor with Jake.

Tuesday – I got up early today because I was still worried about Jake.  I didn’t sleep much Monday night because I kept checking on him.  He seemed much better today and was ready to play as soon as I got up.  I spent the morning working and blogging.  Around 12:30 I went out for a 5 mile run.

When I came in, I walked Jake around the backyard for a little while.  I wanted him to take it easy today to make sure he wasn’t hurt, so I just walked him around the house.  Then I worked out for an hour.  I did several ab workouts from blogilates_princess on Instagram.  I’m telling you these really work!  Follow her!

Then I had to run some things over to Jeremy at a house he was working on and run a couple of errands in town.  I was trying to get it done before the rain hit.  And I did!  I even brought Jake a toy home.  It lasted less than 5 minutes and then he moved on to my socks!

I also picked up some cherries while I was out.  I love fresh fruit!

When Jeremy came home, we took Jake for a walk.

Then I fixed dinner.  I made baked chicken and grilled veggies.  I’ll do a post later with what I used.

Wednesday – I was really productive today!  When I got up, I cleaned the house and did a couple of loads of laundry.  I also tried to brush Jake, but he wasn’t having it.  He wouldn’t stand still and was making me chase him in circles.  Then, he would start rolling in the grass.  I finally gave up!

Later in the afternoon it was misting pretty heavily, but I needed to run, so I headed out anyways.  But I only made it one mile.  I started having sharp pains in my knee, so I decided not to push it.  I went home and iced it.

Wednesday night I made homemade meatballs for meatball subs.  They were delicious!

Thursday – When I got up today it was raining.  I checked the weather and it was supposed to quit later in the morning.  I really really really wanted to go for a run, and I debated for most of the morning about it.  But my knee was a little swollen, so I decided to take a rest day.  Instead of running, I worked out for over an hour.  I did 175 squats!  I had to modify them a little so they didn’t put pressure on my knee.

Then I did some ab workouts.  I spent most of the day working on the computer, so when Jeremy came home I gladly took a break and we took Jake for a walk.

For dinner I fixed barbeque chicken in the crockpot.  I had to smell it all day, and it made me super hungry!

To go with it I grilled the rest of the zucchini and squash that I had.

I also made some cheddar bay biscuits.  They are the kind you get at Red Lobster.  We found a box mix of them at Aldi and thought we’d try it.  They tasted just like Red Lobster!

I also found out today that I was featured on Simply Elle Blog!  I am so excited!  You should check it out!  It’s just a short write up, and it’s my answers to questions that they sent me, but it’s really cool!

Friday – I got up early today and did a quick workout.  Later in the morning I headed out for a run.  It was overcast, so I thought it would be somewhat cool, but I was wrong!  It was so humid!  I was drenched within the first 5 minutes that I was out there.  I kept wishing for rain!  One plus to this run though was that I did manage to avoid a bird pooping on me.  It was standing on the side of the road and as I got closer it flew and it dropped a load that landed right in front of me.  It was like it was in slow motion!  I had to stop and laugh!  I didn’t take a pic, I thought I’d spare you that!  I did take it easy since my knee was still sore.  But, I still had a pretty good time!

When I finished, I sat on the patio with Jake for almost an hour!  It finally did cool down a little and there was a nice breeze blowing.

The rest of the day was pretty lazy!  The sun finally did come out late in the day, so when Jeremy came home we took Jake for a walk.  Then we got ready and went to eat dinner.  We went to the new Mexican place that opened up.  We decided to try some of their tacos.  After all, that’s what they are specializing in.  I love how the menu tells where the taco originated!

Rainy Day Runs and Workouts (8)

We ordered 2 carne asada, 1 al pastor, and 1 spicy chicken.  The asada was my favorite!  The al pastor was okay, but I have had better.  After eating those two, I was full.  I didn’t even try the spicy chicken.  Jeremy tried it and said it was hot, so if he thinks it’s hot then it’s way to hot for me!

Saturday – I woke up to sunshine!!  I was more than happy to help Jeremy do yard work all day!  I did slip away for a little while to get in some strength training.

For dinner we went to Applebee’s.  We never eat here, and don’t really care much for it.  But…and this is kind of silly…10 years ago this week, we had our first date here.  We aren’t sure of the actual day, but know it was the week before Memorial Day.  So, we went and ate some wings.

Rainy Day Runs and Workout (1)

I also ordered a side Caesar salad, but couldn’t eat much of it because it was drowned in dressing.

Then we went to grocery shopping.  I found a new to me Kevita drink.  I was bummed because they have replaced my favorite Lemon Ginger with this one.  I’m not a fan of this flavor, it tastes like I’m drinking toothpaste.

Sunday–  I got up early today before it got too hot and got some miles in!  The wind was blowing and it was perfect running weather!

Now we’re about to go plant the garden!  I’m so excited!

And, just because I really like this picture, I’ll leave you with another snack I had this week!  Have a great week!

Oh wow did you do all 175 squats at one time? Your grilled zucchini and squash remind me so much of camping food. We have it on a regular basis when we camp. I can’t wait to be back at our local CG too! Mostly for sitting around the campfire and the great food! Great week for you Tara! Thanks for linking up!

No way I did all those squats at once! I dont think I would’ve been able to stand up. I did 25-30 at a time and would rest for a minute and then start again. I did that until I got them all in! I love grilled veggies!!

I’m so glad Jake felt better the next day! You had me worried. Congratulations on being a Featured Blogger! I saw that on I/G. You’ve just reminded me that a co-worker gave me a bag of fresh squash that I threw into the frig and forgot about! I hope it’s still OK. I love fresh cherries. They taste nothing like the canned ones I grew up with. Have you ever tried Ranier Cherries? They are my favorite. Thanks for linking with us Tara.

I just bought some Ranier Cherries last night for $7!!! I couldn’t believe how expensive they were, but they are worth it! Thanks for hosting us!

I love seeing pics of Jake! I will follow you on IG for sure! I have a yellow lab too an just love her. We use the furminator brush on her but it’s still not enough so we started to shave her during the summer!

I hope your weather starts to clear up. It’s been cloudy here for a few days and I’ve been hoping for a thunderstorm, but we got nothing!

When you shave your dog does her hair grow back normal? Our groomer talked to us about it but said sometimes it won’t grow back in patches so we decided against shaving.

I was so worried about Jake! I kept waiting for you to say that he got sick again, but I’m so glad he didn’t. I think I’m just really sensitized after my Cleo got suddenly sick last winter. Those fur babies makes us worry!

Yes they do! I can’t stand to see him sick or hurt! I can’t even imagine how I’ll be with a real baby. Lol

Glad you got some better weather this weekend! Love all your pics of Jake! My dog Allie prefers socks over fancy toys any day. I’m looking forward to taking her for more walks when school is out for the summer. Those tacos look yummy! Mexican is one of my favorites.

Lol I don’t know what it is about the socks! We gave Jake some old ones to play with but he only wants the ones in the laundry basket! I’m sure Allie will love more walks!

Congratulations on being a Featured Blogger! Very cool. I am glad your adorable dog is ok. That would scare the daylights out of me…being chased by a dog. I always see people hiking with sticks, I guess that’s why? Great job getting your runs done even in the rain. Every single picture of food you have on here looks delicious especially that chicken and the and the tacos…

Dogs never used to bother me, but now I’m so jumpy when any are around. There used to be a girl that ran by my house and she always carried a huge spray bottle. Now I know why! The tacos were so good!!

Great week! I’m glad the rain cleared out for you by the weekend. We have had so much rain lately, too. I’m sick of it!

So sorry to hear about all of the unfriendly, aggressive dogs lately. I can totally relate, because it’s an issue in our area as well. Call me crazy, but it scares me more when it happens while I’m walking one of my dogs than when it happens when I’m on my own. I’m always so afraid they will get hurt, and I feel like I have to try and protect myself and them – which is silly because they are much better equipped than me to stick up for themselves. Anyway, I hope the issue is resolved soon. Maybe you can make a call to your local police department/animal control about the dogs?

That blueberry picture is incredible! Now I’m craving fresh blueberries 🙂

Im so tired of rain too and I woke up to a storm this morning! I’m the same way when I’m walking my dog. He’s so passive that I don’t think he would know how to protect himself so it scares me to think about how I can protect both of us.

Jake is a beautiful dog! I hope his back is feeling better, that had to be so worrisome. There has been so much rain in our area these past several weeks and it’s gotten to the point of making things miserable…we need sunshine! Great job getting those runs in despite the weather. Hopefully your knee is feeling better! And all of the fresh fruit (and those tacos!) look delicious!

Girl, there is nothing I hate more than being chased by a dog! My Mom has been bitten 3 times and she carries Halt…basically a pepper spray for dogs. You may want to consider that. It would be smaller than a big stick 🙂
Also, the weather here just sucks. I am so.over.it. Where is the sun?!?!? It’s also been pretty chilly here for spring and I am ready for summer weather already. Hope you have a good week!

I ordered some Halt last week! It’s not here yet…but should be any day! I have pepper spray but I don’t want to hurt them. Did the same dog bite your mom?! I am so nervous after one bite, I can’t even imagine how she goes out after 3!!

    Poor, sweet Jake!

I got chased by two dogs while on my bike today. They weren’t huge and I easily outraced them, but it would have been a different story if I had been running. Carrying a stick is a great idea.

I love that you honor your first date by going to the same restaurant. That’s really sweet.

Lol I thought it was sweet too. But that’s the only time we have ever celebrated it. I guess we’ve forgotten since its been so long! Jake’s much better! Back to being spoiled rotten as always! It’s a good thing you were on your bike!
