Week 12 Marathon Training

Hi!  How are you doing?  Good, I hope!  My life has been hectic and very demanding this week; which has also made it hard for me to do much blogging.  Life has made training difficult recently, but I did the best I could in getting in my runs.  I am off work for a few days this next week, so I am planning on catching up on the long run that I missed last Saturday.  But, before that happens, here is a recap of my marathon training this week.

Monday – Monday was a rest day.  At this point, I didn’t know the week was going to be so busy, so I didn’t move any runs around and run today.  I actually rested!  Jeremy was home, so we spent the evening working on taxes.  It’s fun to be an adult!

Tuesday – Today I had a 4 mile run scheduled.  I was planning on doing it right after work, and even took my running stuff to work with me.  But, we got a call that a family member was in the hospital and was having a minor operation.  She was in a hospital in Texas, about two hours away from us.  So, we planned on heading there as soon as I got off work.  I was on my way home to pick up Jeremy and my best friend called me.  She wanted to know where I was because she ran out of gas!  I went to get her, and her car had died in the driveway of an office next to the gas station!  It was hilarious!  So I called Jeremy and he brought a gas can and put gas in her car. She didn’t want to tell her husband!  LOL  We laughed so hard!  She said her screen said she still had 7 more miles.  I know she was embarrassed, but it made my day!  As soon as we had her filled up, we hit the road.  We didn’t get home until close to 10.  I had thought about running on the treadmill when I got home, but after being in the car for four hours and sitting in a hospital, I was exhausted!

Wednesday – I had 8 miles scheduled today.  I took my running bag to work with me and as soon as I could, I headed out to run.  It was misty and a little cool.  I ran a tough route with lots of hills, but I think I did pretty well.  I was a little slow on my time, but I was happy that I did the hills.

I need more runs like this!  When I run this route, there is always an older man that is either running or riding a bike.  He always laps me several times on his bike, and today was no exception.  He rode by one time and called out, “this is a lot easier!”

On Wednesday, I also got to try the Lemon Ginger Kevita!  I am so excited that our local Walmart has finally started carrying these.  I have been reading about them for a few months now on other blogs, but have not been able to find them.  Walmart had the Lemon Ginger and the Strawberry Acai Coconut.  I loved the Lemon Ginger.  It almost tasted like ginger ale.

After my run, I took Jake for a quick walk right before the rain hit!

Then I fixed us some breakfast for dinner.  My favorite meal.    We had scrambled eggs, sausage links, and toast.

Thursday –I had 5 miles scheduled.  I was bad, because I knew that I had a really long day.  But, I didn’t want to get up early.  I planned on doing this run after I got home from work, but I was too tired!  I worked Thursday from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm, with a 20 minute lunch break!  By the time I got home, it was almost 9, and I was ready to fall into bed.  But, I had to pack, because we were leaving Friday morning as soon as I got out of a meeting to go visit Jeremy’s aunt and uncle for the weekend!   This was a reminder not to push back my run.  It has to be a priority if I’m going to get it done.

Friday – I got up at 4:50 am on Friday morning so I could get in 5 miles before I had to go to work for a meeting and we left town.  Jeremy kept telling me to sleep a little bit, and that I could run once we got to his aunt and uncle’s house.  But, I thought that if I didn’t do it that morning, then I wouldn’t want to once we got there.  I would rather go shopping or exploring, or just hang out and talk!  So, I got it done!  And it felt great!  I kept telling myself while I was running that I could do this all the time.  I am not a morning person and HATE getting out of bed – especially to run!

After I got out of my meeting, we hit the road again and headed to Tulsa!  We have been all over the place the last couple of weeks!  Once we got there, we shopped all day so I had 18,207 steps on my Fitbit!

Saturday – I had 12 miles scheduled today.  But, since I had missed 16 last week, I thought I would do it instead.  Truthfully, I had actually planned on skipping this run since we were out of town and making it up on Monday.  But, I packed my running shoes and clothes and Friday night I decided that I would go ahead and get it done.  Since we were in Tulsa, I wanted to use this opportunity to run somewhere different.  And a lot nicer than what I have in my town.

I got up at 6:50 and got ready.  We all piled into the car and they drove me down to the paths at the river.  This was the nicest place I have ever run!  It’s called the Riverside, and it has running paths and bike paths, and it runs parallel to the Arkansas River.

I was planning on 16 miles.  So, I was going to run 8 miles out and then 8 miles back.  But, when I got to mile 7, the trail was closed.

So, I turned around and went back and ended up running 14.04.  My legs got a little tired.  I was not at all prepared for this run, since I had originally planned on doing it on Monday.  I had Mexican for dinner the night before.  Not a good choice!  I only had a granola bar for breakfast, and I was out of gummies.  But, in spite of all of that, I had so much fun on this run.

There were so many people out on the paths.  Runners are all so friendly.  Every time I passed someone I was greeted with a smile and lots of “hello’s” and “good morning’s”.

The weather was great!  It was an overcast 56 degrees, very foggy, and there was a slight breeze blowing – not too hot, not too cold!  Towards the end of the run, it did start misting, but by then I was hot and sweaty so I didn’t mind it.

It's so foggy, you can't see the top of the building!

I slowed down at the halfway point to try and eat a kind bar.  I got a couple of bites down, but I couldn’t finish it.

Does anyone else have trouble with this when you are running.  It has just started for me.  When I am running, if I try to eat something, specifically GU lately, I can’t get it down.  It makes me feel kind of sick.  Gummies have been the only thing lately that I can get down during a run.   It’s weird!

Can’t see the top of the mountain!

My time was slow, but that was probably because I kept stopping to take pictures.  I just couldn’t stop watching the water!

I just could not believe how nice the paths were!  I really wish that I had somewhere to run like that every day!  Before I left, I went halfway across the big bridge and looked out over the river!

Overall, it was a great run!

Week 12 Marathon Training New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (12)

We ended up doing some more shopping and running around town all day so I had 33,412 steps on my Fitbit!  My legs and feet were tired!

Sunday – This is a cross training day.  I have been trying to add in short strength training workouts every day.  I have been doing well the last couple of weeks as far as doing squats every day, and planks most days.  I knew we were going to be in the car most of the day.   We were driving home, and then driving another hour to visit my mother-in-law.  So, when I got up I did some squats.  My legs are sore from yesterday!!!  I didn’t have my foam roller with me!

This week was so busy, but it ended up that I only missed my 4 mile run.  Since I am off work for a few days this week, I am going to try and make up my 12 mile, and get back on schedule with my training.  The time is flying by, and the race is getting here really fast!  I am so excited…and scared!  But, I’m ready!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. I’m also linking up with the other Weekly Wrap bloggers.

Are you training for anything?

How was your week?

I have a lot of trouble getting stuff down during a run–I take a liquid fuel called Tailwind. It was made for ultramarathoners, but since I’ve had so many issues with my tummy, I decided to try it. I’ve had great success with it.

Looks like you had a great trip!

Oh my gosh! My sister lives in Tulsa and I have run at Riverparks! It is such a nice place. I like they have the bike lanes separate from the runners and walkers too (at least they did then). That is where she does all of her running. Kudos to you for getting your long run accomplished while you were visiting family. That takes commitment. Thanks for linking with us Tara.

It is so nice! Yes the bike path was separate for most of it. That is so cool you’ve run it! Does your sister look like you? I passed a girl yesterday that really looked a lot like you.

Running in a new place is always fun. The scenery looked beautiful along the bike/running path. The story about your friend being out of gas is hilarious. I get nervous when my tank goes below 1/4!

I get nervous too! I try to never let my tank get that low!

It is! I would run that every weekend if it wasn’t so far away!

You did a great job balancing marathon training with such a busy week. The area you ran in for your long run looks beautiful! I would love to run there. I really enjoy running in new places, especially when it’s a more populated or active area and you get to see other runners out. It always gives me a boost to wave and say hello. I live in a rural area, and it’s not uncommon for me to run for two or even three hours and never see another soul. Enjoy your time off!

Thank you! It was so much fun running somewhere new! I’m like you, and my normal running route is usually empty, or there may just be a few older people walking. So it was definitely a boost to see so many other runners!

Wow Riverpark looks so cool! It reminded me of the nice running and biking path along Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana I ran a couple of weeks ago! It makes me nervous running alone in a different city but always makes it go by quicker with the new scenery! Great job on getting in yours and I hope you enjoy your days off! Thanks Tara for linking up with us 🙂

I would love to run next to a lake! The new scenery definitely helps to make it quicker!

I love running in new places! And I love friendly runner’s. It is such a peeve of mine that when I say HI to a runner or walker while on my runs, I like a Hi back. Not everyone is that friendly and it pisses me off! lol!
    Nice 14 mile run!!!
I have my first half of the year (and #7 for me) in three weeks! I am in training mode! Have a great week!

Lol it annoys me too when people don’t respond. Good luck with your race! After this one, I’m going to go back to halfs and do more of them.
