Home Remodeling Help!

Ok guys, I am ready to redecorate my house and I need your help!  I am not good at decorating or looking at my space and creating something with it.  So, I am stuck at where to even start.  We have lived in this house for four years, and we have not changed anything.  When we bought the house, we gutted it and did everything new.  But, I’m tired of the colors now.  Almost everything throughout the house is tans and maroons.  I want to redo the kitchen, living room, and master bedroom.  I want it to look more modern.  The floor is the same in the kitchen, living room, and hallway, so I’m stuck with trying to find colors that will go with that.  My baseboards are all white.  I want to paint and I want new rugs and new pictures for the walls.

So, let’s start in the kitchen.  I want new paint colors and new rugs.  I will also have to get new pictures for the walls.  But, I can do that after I figure out what colors to use.  I also want to add a backsplash, but don’t know what colors or tiles would look good.  Right now, the kitchen and living room are all done in the same colors and the rugs all match.  I don’t know if I should do that again, or if I could have different rugs in each room.

Here is what my kitchen currently looks like.

On to the living room.  The furniture is not changing.  Except, I am eventually getting a new entertainment center, and it will match the coffee table.  I like grays and they would look good with my baseboards, but I’m not sure they would match my floor or furniture.  I’m really open to any colors.  My couches and recliners are tan, and the furniture is dark brown.  I want the room to look bright.  We have also talked about moving the furniture around, but I can’t figure out where to put it.

Here is a view of the kitchen and living room.  There is a wall between them.  We have talked about taking out part of that wall.  I don’t know if that is a possibility right now.

The last room I want to redo right now is the master bedroom.  It’s done in dark brown because we wanted room darkening blinds, and these were all that we could find at the time that matched our bedding.  But, I’m open to new bedding too.  I want that room to look bright, because I think it makes it look a little bigger.  But, I also want to be able to make it dark so we can sleep.

The down comforter got too hot. We're just using a blanket for now

Of course I can’t spend a ton on all of this.  I will probably have to do one room at a time, unless I get all matching rugs for the living room and kitchen.

Any help that you can give me would be great.  You can post in the comments, email me, or send me pictures on Pinterest.  (find me here.)

how do you feel about painting kitchen cabinets? I feel like a brighter/lighter backsplash and/or cabinets would make the place look brighter. A backsplash could make things more modern too! I love subway tiles!

I love subway tiles!! I’ve been looking at them for my shower. But now I’m going to look at them for a backsplash! I definitely want a more modern look. I agree I want it brighter, but my husband would not be on board with painting the cabinets. Lol I’ll have to do the walls a lighter color. And maybe some lighter colored rugs??
