Marathon Training Week 10 & Weekly Updates

Week 2 (1)

Hi Everyone!  I hope you had a great week!  I completed week 10 of my marathon training this week.  This week felt like it lasted forever!  I was really tired and felt like I had no energy all week!  I had to really push myself to get my workouts in, and I fell a little behind.  I did get all of my runs in, but I didn’t do as many extra workouts and strength training as I wanted to.    This post is going to combine my weekly update and my marathon training.

I also posted last week that I was going to work on getting more sleep, eating better, and adding in more workouts.  I did better with the eating this week, and a little better with strength training.  But, I definitely didn’t get more sleep.

Monday was just a normal day.  I had some yogurt for breakfast.  Then I had a salad for lunch with Skinny Girl Dressing.  It had grilled chicken, roasted bell peppers, and asparagus.  I had avocado to put on it, but it wasn’t ripe enough yet.  I actually tried to cut it open, but it was hard as a rock!

I’m glad Monday was a rest day from running.  I didn’t sleep well Sunday night, so I felt like I was dragging all day.  So, I actually rested and didn’t work out or run at all.

Monday evening I went to a reception for my mom.  She has been with her company for 25 years, and they were hosting a celebration for her.  I thought it was going to be like a party where we just went in and mingled, but it wasn’t.  We went in and all sat in one room and they had the woman that brought my mom into the company talk about her.  I guess I should have paid more attention to the invitation.  It said it was a “roast”.  So, after the main speaker talked, they invited anyone to come up the front and speak.  Everyone had such nice things to say and funny stories to tell!  I enjoyed listening to what an impact she has had on other’s lives.  At the end, they called all the family up to the front to introduce us, and asked us to speak about her.  Talk about being put on the spot!  I’m not very fond of being up in front of people!  It was a really nice reception, and there were a lot of people there.  Plus, they had a ton of food!

But, by the time we got to eat, it was almost over and Jeremy was cooking dinner when I got home, so I didn’t eat anything.  I did want to take some of those cupcakes home, but I thought they might frown on me for asking to do that.  When I got home, Jeremy was grilling smoked sausage for dinner.  I tried the jalapeno one, and it was way too hot!  So, I ate some of the regular.  It was good, but it is always so greasy!

After dinner I went straight to bed.  I was so tired from not sleeping the night before, so I could barely keep my eyes open.

Tuesday morning it was raining when I woke up.  I don’t mind the rain, but I would prefer it come on a rest day!

It was supposed to rain all day, so that meant I would have to do my run on the treadmill.  I had yogurt for breakfast again.  And then I had some fruit for a mid morning snack.  I usually don’t need a snack, but my stomach was growling!

Lunch was another salad just like Monday’s, except this one finally had avocado on it!

Tuesday afternoon, I ran over to my grandparent’s house.  My grandpa had called me and said that the record player I bought him last year wasn’t working.  (Last summer we had a huge garage sale, and my grandpa had a big box full of old records.  My grandma was making him sell them because he didn’t have anything to play them on, and he was so upset about it.  While he wasn’t watching, Jeremy took the whole box and hid it in his truck.  We bought my grandpa a record player for his birthday and gave him all his records back.  He was so excited!  My grandma said he listens to them all the time!)   Luckily, he had just switched the mode to CD player, so it was an easy fix!

It was still raining hard that afternoon, so I had to run on the treadmill.  I was scheduled to run 3 miles, but I was not into this run, and was really bored!  So when my best friend called, I stopped and talked to her.  I was at 2.8ish miles and I figured that was close enough!  Jake watched me while I ran.    When I got off the phone, I did some strength training and a short Be Fit video.

Wednesday the weather was really pretty!  It was sunny, and I was excited to run outside!  I had 7 miles scheduled.

I headed out later in the afternoon, but I only made it a half mile before I was wheezing.  I checked the weather on my phone, and this is what I saw.

Everyone kept saying after the rain, it would go away, but the rain made it worse!  So, I finished up the other 6.5 miles on the treadmill.

Thursday I had a Caesar salad for lunch.

As soon as I got off work, I headed home to run.  The pollen count was still high, so I opted for the treadmill.   I am getting really tired of it!    I had 4 miles to run, and I had to get them in fast because we had to leave soon.  I ran hard, and it was a really good run.  On the treadmill.  When I was finished, I quickly got ready and we headed to Jeremy’s games.  One of my friends was there because her husband is a coach and they were watching the other teams.  So, I had someone to sit with and talk to the whole time.

I was really hungry from running, so I went to the hospitality room.  They had quesadillas from the new food truck, and they were delicious!  I tried a piece of a beef and a piece of a chicken quesadilla.  The games were really good this night!  This is why I like playoffs, because the teams are much better.  I get really bored when games have a 30 point difference in scores.

After the games we headed home and I had some toast.

I curled up on the couch and we watched the new episodes of The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls.   I took some Benadryl because my eyes have been itching really bad all week and are puffy.  Allergies are the worst!  That always makes me sleepy, so I went right to sleep as soon as I laid down.

Friday morning I woke up around 5.  I laid in bed until 5:45.  I kept thinking I might go back to sleep for awhile, but I didn’t.  I had a Cliff bar for breakfast, and the rest of my Caesar salad for lunch.

Jeremy had games almost two hours away, and we had to leave at 3:30 so he could get there in time.  We got home around 11:30, and it was close to 12:45 before I got in bed!

Saturday morning I got up at 6:45 so I could meet my dad to run.  We ran 15 miles!  That is my longest run ever, and it was a great run!  I didn’t get tired, and I didn’t need to stop and rest.  I was surprised at how much stronger I felt during this run.  I had to take walk breaks, but I never felt like I needed to completely stop.  It was a great run!

Sorry to hear about the allergies. That’s the sucky thing about spring. Your food choices look pretty awesome! I’m getting hungry right now and wishing I had the Ceasar salad fixings in my fridge!

It is sucky! LOL Thats one reason why I love summer so much! Caesar salad is one of my favorites, and I found a light Caesar kit at Walmart!

I also struggle with allergies but find Zirtec works during theday and Benedryl at night. Nice job with your long run with your dad. I find during any marathon training cycle, I have at least one or two that I would like to forget, but those are the ones that get me through race day.

That’s what I do too! Do use Zyrtec D? I’ve heard it works better, but I haven’t tried it.

Allergies are the bane of my existence. I have seasonal allergies AND pet allergies. 🙁 It’s still cold and kinda snowy in Toronto so no need for allergy meds just yet but that’s not too far off! Congrats on your longest run!!! That’s AWESOME!

Lol that’s a great way of looking at it!

I had always heard the rain helps clear the pollen too. But I recently saw something on TV that actually explains how it makes it much worse. The rain stirs it up into the air! When it doesn’t rain, and you see that nasty yellow stuff everywhere — that is good. The pollen has settled out of the air and onto the ground (or your car!). I usually begin taking Allegra every day for around 6 weeks about this time of year, but it hasn’t started bothering me yet. I’ glad you were able to get outside for your long run. 15 miles is fantastic. Congratulations on your personal distance record. Thanks for linking with us Tara!

Thank you!! I never thought about the rain stirring it up in their, but that makes sense! Thanks for having me!!

We haven’t seen the yellow haze floating around yet be we know it’s coming. Pollen doesn’t usually do me in but I know so many that it does!! How nice to throw the party for your mom, I’d be the same way I hate speaking in front of people. All that food looks amazing!!! Thanks Tara for linking, looks like another week down and closer to your race! 🙂
