Is Valentine’s Day a Big Deal in Your World?

Valentine’s Day is a day that is dedicated to love.  Growing up, my parents always gave me Valentine’s.  They still do!  When I was older, my friends and I would exchange gifts.  During college, a lot of my single friends and I would celebrate together.  But, Valentine’s Day has not ever been a huge deal in my world.  Honestly, until I met my husband I didn’t really like Valentine’s Day.   It was just another day. Full of candy, flowers, romance, and love.  When I met my husband, I finally had a real reason to celebrate the day.  We have never really made a big deal about Valentine’s Day though.  We just make sure to spend it together, and we will exchange cards and sometimes he sends me flowers.

Valentine's Day

I will never forget the first Valentine’s that we spent together when we were dating.  He sent me flowers to my work.  This was the first time he had ever sent me flowers, and it was a big deal.  He said when he went to order them, he told them he didn’t want to send roses.  Instead, he wanted to send an arrangement with my favorite flower, a gerbera daisy.  So thoughtful!  So, when I got my flowers I was really surprised and happy!  I thought it was really sweet of him.  But, I was more surprised than anything.  What I got was absolutely the most hideous flower arrangement I have ever seen!  I wish I had a picture so bad!

The arrangement consisted of an enormous sunflower and some greenery.  Of course I would have never told him how ugly I thought it was.  But, when I got home with the flowers and Jeremy saw them he was so mad!!  I didn’t have to say anything.  He thought they were awful and he wanted his money back!  It was really hilarious!  I kept telling him that I loved them, but he knew better.  Now he just sticks to roses.

Valentine's Day

We don’t have any Valentine’s traditions.  We do something different every year.  If we are able to, we will go out of town and eat somewhere really nice.  But, basketball playoffs are during the month of February.  So, our Valentine’s celebration just depends on where Jeremy has to go and what time his games are.  With Valentine’s being on Sunday this year, we will probably stay home and cook dinner together.  Jeremy has 6 games Thursday, 6 games Friday, and 5 games on Saturday.  He’s going to be really tired!

Valentine's Day

Even though we don’t make a huge deal about Valentine’s Day, I still like to do something special with my husband.  It doesn’t matter to me how we celebrate or where we go, just as long as we’re together!

We went to a Thunder Game last year to celebrate!

I hope you have a great Valentine’s Day! It isn’t a big deal for me either. My boyfriend and I are just cooking dinner and watching some horror movies 🙂

That sounds like fun! All we did was cook dinner and watch TV!

Valentine’s Day isn’t anything to me, I’m sure a lot has to do with being single for so long. Love how you and your husband celebrate in whatever way you both are as long as you are doing something together. That’s what’s important when you are with someone I think.

That’s one reason I wasn’t a huge fan of the day until I met him. I hated watching everyone celebrate and I had nobody! Lol

Hilarious about the ugly flowers! Edible roses are just sooo much better 😉

Hope you had a good Valentines Day!

Chocolate covered fortune cookies sound really good!! That’s fun to get to celebrate both at the same time!

Too cute! This year we celebrated by visiting my mother-in-law in Maine. My husband and I were able to go out to dinner since my MIL was babysitter! It’s really fun to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my daughter though. She loves making cards and celebrating the people she loves most. With her, it’s very sweet and genuine – reminds you that it isn’t just a hallmark holiday.

Kids are so sweet! And you are so right about a Hallmark holiday! I think the best kind of celebration is when it’s not over the top, but from the heart!
