Running and Icing

Happy Friday Everyone!  This week went by so fast!  I need to catch you up, so let’s go back to Wednesday and talk running and eating.

Wednesday morning I fixed some cranberry oatmeal.  It’s my favorite breakfast right now.

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (6)

I actually was wanting yogurt, but I was out and I didn’t want to chance it with McDonald’s again.  So, oatmeal it was.  After breakfast, Jeremy had games at a local elementary school.  I went to watch the little kids, and they were so cute.  At the end of the game, they let a little girl that had Down syndrome play, and I thought it was so sweet.  They let her shoot the ball until she made it.  Both teams would rebound it and hand it right back to her so she could shoot again.  Everyone in the gym was clapping and chanting her name.  She kept waving at the crowd and saying, “thank you”. When she finally made it, her whole team came out on the court and gave her a hug and high five.  It was so sweet it almost made me cry.

When the games were over, I fixed some leftover spaghetti squash Alfredo for lunch.

After work, I went for a run.  I had a 6 mile run scheduled and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it because my foot had been bothering me Tuesday night.  I decided to run by my house just in case, so I ran the entire 6 miles on a quarter mile road, up and down.

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (5)

But, I made it fine and had an awesome run!  I felt great and had no aches or pains!  The weather was beautiful!  It was 62 degrees!  I listened to some new songs on my phone.  I am really liking Rachel Platten right now.

After my run, I went home and got Jake.  It was so nice outside; I didn’t want to stay in.  We went for a long walk, and he played in the pasture.  He also got to play with our neighbor’s dogs while she was out walking them.  We stayed out until it started getting dark.

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

By the time I got home, my foot was starting to hurt.  So, I foam rolled and stretched my legs and feet.  I iced my foot twice Wednesday night, and I rolled it on a frozen bottle of water.  I’m not sure if that helps or not because the pain is mainly on the top of my foot.

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (4)

Thursday morning when I got up, I could barely put any pressure on my foot.  I took some Ibuprofen and  iced it while I got ready for work, and it felt better.  I also took a heating pad to work with me and wrapped it in that for awhile.

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (7)

The heat seems to work better than the ice.  After I used the heating pad, it felt fine.  It didn’t bother me the rest of the day.

For lunch I had turkey roll ups.  I made them with turkey, Laughing Cow light cheese spread, and asparagus.  One of them had a pickle and half a slice of muenster cheese.  I also had a package of yogurt covered pretzels.

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (8)

When I got off work, I still didn’t have any pain in my foot so I decided to try and run my 3 miles.  But, I ran close to home so if it hurt, I could stop.  It didn’t hurt, and I had a great run!  I’m just so happy with how good I have felt this week.  Last week every run was a challenge, so this is awesome for my runs to feel easy!

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (11)

After my run, I took Jake for a walk.  He ran down the road and sniffed everything!

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (9)

Then he ran in the pasture!  Our new neighbors put up a gate, and Jake couldn’t figure it out.  He didn’t like it!

Running and Icing New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (10)

When he got done walking, we went home and I iced my legs.  My foot started hurting when I took my shoe off, so I iced it too.

I fixed spaghetti for dinner and Jeremy’s dad came over to eat with us.

I fixed myself some spaghetti squash and no one would try it!

I am so glad it’s Friday!  And, I am really looking forward to my run tomorrow!  I hope you have a great Friday and a great weekend!

What are you doing this weekend?

I Can Do This

This week I have been thinking a lot about my training and the marathon I want to run.  I’ve also been thinking about why?  Why do I want to run a marathon?  Why do I want to put my body through this?  Why do I want to endure all of the emotional ups and downs of the training?  The only answer that I can come up with is because I want to…for meI Can Do This New Blog Post Run and Live Happy 8

I started training 7 weeks ago.  But today, the enormity of what I am doing just hit me in the face!  I think I just realized how huge this goal really is – how great this commitment really is.  I can’t believe it’s taken me 7 weeks to figure it out.  Going into this, I had no idea how this training would go.  I was pretty much starting at scratch after an injury, so I was nervous.  No, that’s a huge understatement.  I was terrified!  I didn’t have the confidence in myself to do it, and I was afraid to really try.  I was scared of trying and failing.  I was scared of putting everything into it and getting hurt.  I was just scared, and I still am.  I still have 13 weeks until the marathon.  So, all of that is still a possibility, but I will never do it if I don’t try.

I Can Do This New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

When I started this, I didn’t really think about it.  It was just a way to help me get some motivation to get back running consistently again.  The purpose was just to get me out the door several days a week.  And, it worked.  The end goal however, just didn’t seem real, and some days it still doesn’t.  It’s almost like the goal was too far away for me to see it.  I have had moments when I doubted myself, and when I thought I was crazy, and I’m sure going forward, there will be many more.  Last week after having such a horrible week in training, I kept asking myself, “can I really do this?”  The answer is yes.  Yes I can do this, and I am doing this!

I Can Do This New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (5)

I think all this soul searching has been brought on because of all of you that ran the Disney World Marathon this past weekend.  After reading all of your recaps and thoughts and feelings of your experiences – good and bad – I can’t wait to experience it for myself.  I’m so happy for all of you that did it!

Running a marathon is a HUGE accomplishment, and it’s one that I want to achieve.  I want to experience the emotion at the finish line and that indescribable feeling of knowing that I gave it my all and I did it!

run love

All of you are such huge inspirations to me.  Following along on your journeys to the finish line has really encouraged me.  From the beginning of my training, I have had so many supportive people on my side.  All of you that have answered questions, offered advice, and have been brave enough to share your experiences online are helping me more than you know.  This is why I love running!  There is such a camaraderie between perfect strangers!  It’s such a strong bond that you can make with someone you don’t even know!  Runners are a special group of people, and no one understands us if they aren’t part of it!  Thank you to all of you for sharing your experiences and for the encouragement!  You will help get me there! Running -

I am going to give this my all.  I’m going to train smart, stretch, foam roll, ice, and pray that I don’t get hurt.  I have 13 weeks left!  100 days from today!  I AM DOING THIS!!

My Week So Far

My week so far run and live happy

Hello Everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  Let’s catch up on what I’ve been doing so far this week.

Monday morning when I woke up, I was full of energy!  We were in bed by 8 on Sunday night, and I was asleep before 10.  I wish I could sleep that much every night!  I didn’t want oatmeal for breakfast, so I ran through McDonald’s and picked up 2 yogurts.  I ate one Monday, and saved the other for breakfast on Tuesday.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (6)

For lunch, I had a grilled chicken salad.  I made it with kale, spinach, onions, and Skinny Girl balsamic dressing.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (2)

I also tried the Margaritaville Pina Colada trail mix.  I was not a big fan of this one.  It had a really strong pina colada after taste.  That was about all you could taste, no matter which individual piece you ate.  I like the Coco Banana mix so much better.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (12)

After lunch I took Jake for an hour long walk.  It was a rest day from running, so we jogged a little, but I mostly just let him walk and sniff everything.

PicMonkey Collage1

I am going to start running him more.  He has put on some weight the last few months, and I need to get it off of him.  When we got back home, he wanted to play.  He has figured out that he likes empty toilet paper rolls, and he will stand and whine at it until you give it to him.  He has even started checking the bathrooms to see if there is an empty one in them!

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (1)

While he played with his toys (right in my way), I did some strength training and an ab workout.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (9)

I have a ton of them saved on Pinterest, so I thought I would finally start going through them and trying each one.  The one I did was from  You can see it here.  It really worked my abs.  I also did 120 squats.

When Jeremy got home, we watched the National Championship game.  I really didn’t care who won, and I only halfway watched.  I was on Pinterest most of the time.  I fixed us some chili for dinner.  I like chili, but it always makes my stomach hurt, so I didn’t eat very much.  We tried the Margaritaville Sriracha trail mix, and it was disgusting!  I can’t even describe the taste, it was just spice.  It had pineapples in it, and they were gummy and spicy.  I didn’t really think it tasted like sriracha, it was just hot.  We threw the whole bag in the trash.

I ended up falling asleep before the game was over.  Monday night, I woke up at 2:30, 3:30, 4:45, and 5:30.  I finally gave up at 5:30 and just got up, so I was a little tired Tuesday morning.  I have always had a hard time sleeping.  I have a hard time going to sleep, and then I can’t stay asleep.  Every now and then I will take a Benadryl to help me, but even if I take it at 10, it usually wears off by 3 am and I’m wide awake.

I guess since I didn’t eat much dinner, I woke up hungry Tuesday morning.  I got out my yogurt, and stirred it around.  I noticed that it was a little watery, and when I took a bite and it was sour!  I found the sticker on the bottom of it, and it had expired on Saturday! (2 days before they sold it to me!)  So, I ate a granola bar instead.

Then for lunch, I fixed another grilled chicken salad, and this time I added roasted red peppers to it.  I also used Olive Garden Italian dressing on it instead of the balsamic.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (7)

After work, I got home and had time to take Jake for a walk.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (8)

It was such a beautiful day!  The temperature was 59 degrees!

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (10)

We ran a little bit, and then he played in the pasture.  He ran the fence with his friend.  They are cute, they lick each other through the fence.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (5)

Then we sat on the porch waiting for my dad to come get me.

My Week So Far Run and Live Happy (11)

I had planned on running after our walk, but I had to go with my dad to pick up my mom’s car.  She had to go to LA for work, and the girl she rode with to the airport lives in a nearby town about 40 minutes away.  So, we had to go get her car and bring it back home.  By the time we got back, it was dark outside.  So, I had to run on the treadmill.

my week so far run and live happy

I was scheduled to run 3 miles, but I only made it a mile and a half.  My foot started hurting a little, and I didn’t want to push it since I have 6 miles scheduled today.  I think it was hurting because I wore my Uggs on Monday.  I put insoles in them, but I guess it didn’t help.  🙁  But, that little bit of running that I did get in was so much better than any of my runs last week.  Hopefully that is a good sign for the rest of the week!

After my run, I fixed a spaghetti squash for dinner.  I tried this one with Alfredo sauce and I really liked it.  Then I settled in and watched Monday’s episode of the Bachelor.

My week so far run and live happy

Since I have been running, I have always used my iPhone to track my runs.  I tried RunKeeper, but it’s been so long ago, that I can’t remember why I didn’t like about it.  But for the last few years, I have been using Map My Run.  I like it, but I really want a Garmin.  I have been looking at the Garmin Forerunner 220.  I have never used a watch to run, but after reading about what it does, and reading the reviews on it.  I think this is the one I want.  Does anyone have this watch?  What are your thoughts on it?

New Shoes & Lots of Food: Weekend Recap

New Shoes Weekend Recap (1)

This weekend was a complete blur! I was already tired going into the weekend, and then we were go go go all weekend. I spent my weekend watching ballgames, wrestling matches, and eating out.

Friday afternoon when I got home, I had a package waiting for me on my porch! It was my new Brooks! This is why I love Brooks. They have the best customer service in the world! I called them about my shoes that were coming apart, which were only a few weeks old.

New Shoes Weekend Recap (3)

They sent me some brand new ones. I had them within 5 days of calling! I didn’t have to return the defected ones, and I didn’t have to pay any shipping. Brooks is the best! They want to make sure you #runhappy!

Friday was a rest day from running, so I took Jake for a walk. We jogged a little, but he was more interested in sniffing everything than running today, which was fine with me.

New Shoes and Lots of Food Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (10)

Later that afternoon, Jeremy’s aunt and uncle came to visit for the weekend. We went out to eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant! Of course we started with chips and salsa, and then we ordered queso fundido for an appetizer. I know this is probably the worst thing for you. It’s just a plate of melted cheese, but I love it!

New Shoes and Lots of Food Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (4)

For my entrée, I ordered tacos al pastor. It’s pork meat on a corn tortilla and it is served with cilantro, onion, and a pineapple/chili sauce.

New Shoes and Lots of Food Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (5)

By the time it came, I was already full! There is always a ton of food when we eat Mexican. After dinner, we headed back to my father in law’s house to visit for awhile before going home to bed.

We got up really early Saturday morning, and it was snowing! I didn’t get any pictures because it wasn’t coming down hard enough and my camera wouldn’t capture the flakes falling. It didn’t stick. Jeremy had morning ballgames and I went with his aunt and uncle to watch our cousin wrestle. A lot of the family was there, so we had fun visiting between matches. It was a small tournament, so it was done before lunch.

New Shoes and Lots of Food Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (6)

We headed back to town and met Jeremy, his dad, and his other aunt and uncle for lunch. I had a grilled chicken salad with avocado. The chicken was juicy and seasoned just right. The salad was really good and very filling.

New Shoes and Lots of Food Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (8)

After lunch, we went home and I ran on the treadmill. It was way too cold and wet to run outside.

Marathon Training Week 6 (2)

I had 7 miles scheduled for Saturday. This run was the best I had all week. It was not a great run, but it was an improvement from the rest of the week. I listened to the new Serial podcast, and that helped pass some of the time. I was just worn out, and my body felt so tired. But, around mile 6, I got a second wind. That last mile flew by, and I felt like I could have run a couple more. But, I was pressed for time, and I always have “don’t over train” in the back of my mind, so I stopped. I stretched and rolled my legs and back, and then I quickly got ready to go.

We all headed to Jeremy’s night games. He was calling the finals of a tournament, so the games were late. We got there around 6:00 and Jeremy’s games didn’t start until 7. One of our friends was calling the game before his, so I sat and visited with his wife and daughter. She’s 3 and wanted me to color with her! After that, I moved to sit with our family for the next game, and then I moved to sit with Jeremy’s refereeing partner’s wife for the last game. I was pretty social! It was either that, or fall asleep!

New Shoes Weekend Recap (2)

On the way home, we stopped and picked up Domino’s pizza. It was really late, and I don’t like eating that late, but I was starving from running that afternoon and not eating anything afterwards. We stayed up until after midnight visiting.

Once we got home, I went straight to bed and straight to sleep. I was exhausted. I got up around 9 Sunday morning and made a quick trip to Wal-mart to get some groceries for the week. Then we had lunch with the family. We had tacos!  I was so hungry that I ate it all before I remembered to take a picture. (I actually forgot to take any pictures today!) We sat around all afternoon Sunday just talking and watching football. Then we had birthday cake for Jeremy’s aunt’s birthday. I splurged and ate a piece, and it was divine! It was an Italian Cream Cake, and it was so rich! (That’s why I didn’t make a resolution to cut out all sugar, just cut back <–smart thinking!)

After that, we went home to rest. We were both so tired that we were in bed by 8! We laid in bed and watched TV all evening. I even fixed us a snack to eat in bed.

New Shoes and Lots of Food Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (9)

We had this instead of dinner since we had eaten so much lunch and cake. It was a much needed relaxing night! I was asleep before 10, and I felt refreshed and energized when I woke up this morning. I love the weekends, but I always feel like I need another weekend to recover!

Did you do anything exciting over the weekend?

Marathon Training Week 6

Marathon training week 6 run and live happy

Week 6 of marathon training is complete.  I wish I could report that this was a great training week, but I can’t do that.  This whole week was a struggle.  Every run was difficult.  I was really tired, my body was really sore, and it just would not cooperate.

Monday – This was a rest day, but I did take Jake for a long walk.  I was freezing all day, and could not get warm.  I also had a headache.  So, it was a good day for a rest day.  I was starting to think I was getting sick.  But, thankfully I didn’t!

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (3)

Tuesday – Today had 3 miles scheduled.  It was freezing outside, but I ran them.  I had to call Jeremy to bring me some gloves.  Once I got adjusted to the cold, I ran pretty well.  I ended up running almost 4 miles.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (7)

Wednesday – I was scheduled to run 5 miles today.  It was 29 degrees outside, and I didn’t want to face that.  So, I ran on the treadmill.  It was hard!  I don’t know what was so different from running on it last week.  It was really tough mentally.  I made a new playlist, I ran intervals, and I counted down the minutes.  Every 10 minutes I would tell myself “just 10 more”.  All of that helped, but it was still challenging.   I just wanted to be done.  I felt like I was having to force myself to run, and I did not enjoy it.  But, I got it done!

Thursday – The weather was back up in the 50’s, so I ran outside.  I was scheduled for 3 miles.  I ended up running around 2 and a half, and then walking the last half.  One of the neighbors was walking her dogs, and I walked and talked with her for the last half mile.

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (2)

Then I took Jake for a run.  We ran almost a mile, and he sprinted the entire time!  He was literally dragging me!

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

Thursday was the hardest run of the week.  My body was tired, and it would not cooperate with me.  I was so frustrated because I had to stop several times and walk because my legs were so tired.  I hate that, especially when I’m just running a few miles.  It just frustrates me that I can run big miles and it’s relatively easy, but then I struggle with the low miles.  But, I guess we all have bad days.

Friday – Today was a rest day.  I didn’t rest totally, but I didn’t run.  I did some squats.  I am doing the Squat Away May challenge, but I got a little behind and had to catch up.  I did 150 squats on Friday.  My legs were like jelly for awhile!  I also took Jake for a quick walk down the road

Marathon Training Week 6

Saturday – When I woke up Saturday morning, it was snowing!  It was super cold, so that forced me to run 7 miles on the treadmill.  Today wasn’t as bad as the rest of the week.  I listened to the new Serial Podcast, and that helped pass the time for a while.  When that was over, I listened to some music.  I wouldn’t say this was a great run, but it was an improvement from the others this week.  I started getting tired, but got a second wind around mile 6.  I really finished strong, and wanted to run a little more, but I didn’t have any time.  I did feel a little better about my training this week after this run.

Marathon Training Week 6 (2)

Sunday – Today was a cross training day.  I hit up the treadmill for an easy 2 mile jog on the treadmill and some strength training.  I tried a workout that Monica at Run Eat Repeat made up.  You can see that workout here

Marathon Training Week 6 (3)

Overall, this week was the hardest so far.  It is a little disheartening when I think about how I did this week and then look ahead at my training plan.  This week should have been easy, it was supposed to be easy, but there’s just so many factors that play into having a good run.  I know this was just a bad week, and I’m sure there will be others. But, next week WILL be better!  I AM DOING THIS!  (I stole that quote from Lindsey at A Runnaroundd Life, and it helped me a lot this week to keep telling myself that!)

Now, I need your advice please!

I have been following Hal Higdon’s Marathon Training Novice 1 program. (This is my first marathon)  I have been looking at his Novice 2 program and am thinking about switching over to it next week.  The weekly runs are just one more mile than what I would be doing, and the long runs are 2 miles more.

Example:                               Mon     Tues           Wed       Thurs     Fri           Sat         Sun

Week 7 Novice 1                  Rest       3               6              3          Rest       12          Cross

Week 7 Novice 2                  Rest       4               7              4          Rest       14          Cross

So, for all of you marathon veterans, my question is, should I switch over to the Novice 2 training.  It’s going to be a few more miles, and my thoughts are those extra miles are going to help me be better prepared.  But, since I’ve never done this before, I really don’t know.  My concern is overtraining and getting injured, but with the exception of this week, the last few weeks have been pretty easy for me.

I chose the Novice 1 program because I was coming back from being hurt and was pretty much starting from scratch.  But, now that I have been running consistently for a few weeks, I feel a lot stronger, and think I might could push myself to do more.

Any advice you can give would be great!  When I think about running a marathon, I’m excited but at the same time I’m really scared!  But, it’s something that I really want to do, so I want to make sure I do it right and am prepared and not injured!

Melons Anyone?

Hello!  TGIF!!  I have been looking forward to today since Monday!

Yesterday was all about food and running and reading.  I finished the book Tell No One by Harlen Coben.  I highly recommend this book for anyone that likes a good mystery/thriller/suspense/even a little bit of a love story!  It’s all of those rolled into one!  I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and it has so many twists, that you don’t actually find out the truth until the very last page!  You think you know, but you don’t!   It’s so good!

Anyways, on to eating and running yesterday.

Breakfast was the usual, oatmeal.  I mixed it up a bit and had a package of peaches and cream.  Lunch was leftover spaghetti squash!  I am so addicted to this now.

I also had a snack.  These are so good!  Aldi has them, and then they will be out of them for months. I stock up when they are in.

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (1)

In fact, I’m so addicted that I ran to Walmart to pick up a couple more of them.  When I was walking out the door, carrying my bag of squash, some random guy creeper came up behind me and said, “Hey, you’ve got some nice melons.”  He thought it was hilarious.  I was completely shocked that a complete stranger would say that to me!  Seriously, who says stuff like that?!  Oh, and by the way, they aren’t melons! I just headed the other way.

Once I got my melons squash home, I took Jake for a walk in the pasture.  The weather was beautiful, and it wasn’t too cold, it was in the mid-50’s.  Jake ran at full speed the entire time we were up there.  Once I finally drug him home, I went back for a run.  I was supposed to run 3 miles, but I got in 2 and a half and then a half mile walk.

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (2)

One of my neighbors was out walking her dogs, and she started talking to me, so I just walked the last half mile and talked to her.  She is always so friendly!

When I got back home, Jake was still fired up.  So, I took him back down the road thinking he could play with my neighbor’s dogs while she was walking them, but she had already gone home.  So, I ran with him for almost a mile.  He must have thought we were in a race because he sprinted the entire time!

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

Then he went right in and went to bed!

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (4)

Jeremy had games, so I fixed more spaghetti squash for dinner.  (I will get him to try it!)

Melons Anyone New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (5)

I fixed it with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese.  I love it!!

Then I caught up on Law and Order SVU and Big Bang Theory!

Running, Eating, & Good Reads

PicMonkey Collage

Hello everyone!  How’s your first week of 2016 going? (I actually remembered to write 16 instead of 15!) AmazonMine has been pretty normal, which I was looking forward too.  I have been running, eating, and reading.  As much as I love the holidays, I need the normalcy and consistency so I can stay on track with my running and eating.

So, let’s talk about that.

Monday morning started early.  I was back at work after being off for a while, and I did not want to go!  5:30 am came really early and I was tired!   I had some oatmeal for breakfast.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (12)

Then I had some turkey and asparagus roll ups for lunch.  (All I did was take two pieces of turkey, put a tiny bit of Skinny Cow light cheese on them, lay two pieces of steamed asparagus on them, and roll them up.  Super simple and good!)

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (1)

I also had some of my Margaritaville trail mix.

Since Monday was a rest day from running, I took Jake for a long walk.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (2)

We had to walk down the road, and then to our small pasture.  Jake ran around sniffing all the trees for a while.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (3)

I got really cold, so we headed back home where I had some hot chocolate to warm up.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (4)

Jeremy had a ballgame, so I was on my own for dinner.  I had some scrambled eggs and toast.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (5)

I also ate low sugar jelly!  I’m really trying to cut back on sugar.

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (6)

I know it will get easier, but right now I’m craving it!  I ate dinner while I watched the new Bachelor.  I really like Ben.  He seems really genuine, and I think he will make a good season, I hope.  It has been getting crazier and crazier the last few seasons.

I could not get warm on Monday night.  I wrapped up in a blanket and cranked the heat up and I was still freezing.  I took a long hot shower, but as soon as I got out I was freezing!  I finally bundled up and got in bed, where I started to warm up.  Once I was warm, I had a date with my foam roller.  I have sadly decided that I am going to have to retire my Uggs while I am training.  The last couple of times that I have worn them, both of my shins and ankles hurt bad afterwards.  I hate that because they are so warm, and I love them!  But, I would rather be able to run and not be in pain.  Or, I may try some insoles in them and see if that helps.  I watched NCIS Los Angeles, until Jeremy got home.  I made him some dinner and went to sleep!  It was a pretty relaxing evening!

Tuesday, I thought the sunrise was beautiful!  I love being able to see it each morning.  I do enjoy the mornings, I just don’t like the getting up early part.  If that makes any sense at all.  (It’s perfectly clear to me. ) 😉

I had the same breakfast and lunch as I did on Monday.  (Back to normal!)

Tuesday afternoon, Jeremy was getting ready to leave for his games, and Jake and I were out in the garage with him.  Next thing I know, Jake is yelping and running to me.  There was a black cat that snuck in the garage, and it scratched him.  I think it scared him more than it hurt, but I can’t stand to hear him yelp.  It scared the cat too, so hopefully it won’t come back.

I was scheduled to run 3 miles, so I did.  I ran in the middle of the afternoon, and I ran outside.  My last couple of runs have been on the treadmill, so I was ready to get back on the road again.  I did not realize how cold it was!  I had to call Jeremy and have him bring me some gloves, my fingers were frozen!

The weather has gotten significantly colder this week.  One of my neighbors was out walking her dogs, and she stopped to talk.  She was completely bundled up with everything but her eyes covered!  I was that cold, but I can’t wear a mask over my face when I run, it makes it hard to breathe.  As long as my ears are covered, I’m good.  I actually ended up running almost 4 miles.  I felt good, and wanted to keep going, but then I remembered “not overtraining”.  This has been in the back of my head since I started training.  I know you’re probably thinking that I am not running very many miles, but that is exactly how I injured myself last year while training for a half marathon.  If my plan said 3 miles, I might run 4 or 5.  Then the next day if it said 5, I might run 6.  Before I knew it, I was having all kinds of pain that wouldn’t go away with ice and rolling.  So, I’m trying to take it easy this year and really follow the plan so that doesn’t happen again.   Plus, I’m not really into the BIG miles yet, so I definitely don’t want to get hurt doing all these small miles.

After my run, I took Jake for a quick walk.  He usually likes the cold, but he was ready to go back home pretty quick!

Tuesday night I made an awesome dinner!  I know I am waaaay behind the times on this, but I have not tried spaghetti squash before.  Shocking, I know!  I have been missing out!!

Running, Eating, and Good Reads #newblogpost Run and Live Happy (8)

I just had the squash and marinara sauce.  I did caramelize some onions, and ended up eating them mixed in and it was incredible!  YUM!!

This is my new food obsession.  I found a ton of recipes on Pinterest and I am going to try a bunch of them.

After dinner, I started a new book.  It is called Tell No One by Harlan Coben.  It’s a mystery/thriller, and it is very good.  I was hooked after the first page.  It keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what’s going to happen next.  I had a hard time putting it down and ended up staying up until 11:30 reading!

Yesterday came early since I stayed up so late reading.  I had oatmeal again for breakfast, and then I had spaghetti squash for lunch.

Yesterday afternoon, I ran 5 miles on the treadmill.  I wanted to run outside, but it was 29 degrees, and I did not feel like freezing!  I made a new playlist, and that helped the time go by.  I was also playing mental games.  Every ten minutes, I kept telling myself 10 more.  And, one of my readers suggested intervals, so I tried that.  I think that did really help make it go by faster.  Plus, I would push myself to keep going at the faster pace for one more minute.  All of that sounds ridiculous, but it does get really boring!

Jeremy did not have to work last night, so we ate breakfast for dinner and watched a lot of tv!

Today I’m supposed to run 3 miles. It’s supposed to get up to 56 degrees today, so I’ll be able to run outside!

Have a great Thursday!

AG Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Product Review

AG Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Product Review

I have been desperately searching for a new shampoo and conditioner for a while now.  I have a weird hair type and have always had trouble finding shampoo and conditioner that works with it.  My scalp is oily, and my ends get really dry and break and fall out.  I can’t use any kind of moisturizing formulas, but I also can’t use any kind of oil control because it makes my hair way too dry.  I have tried every kind of shampoo or conditioner that Wal-mart sells, and they just damage my hair.  Over the years I have found a few that I like, but they seem to get expensive.  I used to use Nexxus Pro-Mend.  For a long time I was able to find the liters on Amazon for $10 each.  Now they are $40+.  So I quit using it.

I have been using Redken’s All Soft for a couple of years now and I loved it!  My hair dresser let me use her account at our local beauty supply store, so I could get the liters for $15 each!  But, they recently changed their formula and it made my hair super oily.  I would have to use the clarifying shampoo every couple of days to get the oil out, and I could hardly wear my hair down.  I could wash and condition my hair and it was so gross when I dried it; it looked like it hadn’t been washed in a week!  It made my face oily, and I would break out.  It was just gross!  I hated that they changed the formula so much.  I even tried using just a tiny bit of conditioner, but then my hair started getting really dry and falling out.  I tried to switch to the Redken Extreme shampoo and conditioner because I liked the brand.  But, all it did was strip color out of my hair.  I haven’t dyed my hair since August, but after using the extreme line, my hair is super light!  Plus, the extreme conditioner is like water.  It did nothing to condition my hair.  I would try to run my fingers through it in the shower and I would pull away with clumps of hair in my hands.

I researched shampoo and conditioners for a few days, and still wasn’t sure what to get.  When we went shopping last week, Ulta was having their big jumbo size sale.  I found this AG Restore and Refuel shampoo and conditioner and thought I would give it a try.  I have now used it for a week and really like it.

This is what the description of the shampoo says –

AG Hair Keratin Repair Refuel Sulfate-Free Strengthening Shampoo gently cleanses, nourishes and restores life back into dry, damaged hair.

Both the shampoo and conditioner smell really good!  The shampoo is very thick, and it lathers really well.  I really feel like it cleans my scalp and hair well.

This is the description of the conditioner –

Restore bounce and add a soft, silky look and feel to your hair with AG Hair’s decadent Keratin Repair Restore Daily Strengthening Conditioner.

The conditioner is thick like lotion, and my hair is completely detangled after using it.

AG Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Product Review (3)

The only downside is that I have to use quite a bit of it.  I think once the condition of my hair improves, I won’t need as much.  You have to massage the conditioner into your hair and let it sit for 3 minutes.  After that time, you comb it out and rinse.  The first day, I tried to comb it as soon as I put it on, and I couldn’t get the comb through.  I read the directions and let it sit on my hair, and then the comb goes right through it.  After one use I could tell a huge difference.  I will say that both of them do exactly what their descriptions say they will.

These are the best before pictures that I could find.  My hair is dry and tangled on the ends, and it is broken off at the top!

AG Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Product Review (4)

My hair is left silky and it feels thicker.  It also has a lot more volume, and it is not oily at all!  I haven’t had to wash it every day to get the oil out.  It just looks and feels so much healthier, and it isn’t breaking off or falling out.  I would recommend this product to anyone who has damaged hair, or really anyone who wants to try something new.  I already ordered another set of this since they are on sale right now.

AG Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Product Review (1)

These bottles are normally $55 each, but right now at Ulta they are $21 each.

I do eventually want to try Pureology.  My hair dresser recommended this, but even on sale at Ulta right now, the liters were still $55 dollars.  They are normally $75 each.  Maybe someday I will try it, but right now I am happy with the AG.

What is your favorite brand of shampoo and conditioner?

Love Thy Neighbor??

So we got some new neighbors over the weekend, and I am not very happy about it!

Love Thy Neighbor?

I’m actually really sad, but also a little mad!  It is a couple in their 50’s, and they bought the house directly across the street from me, and next door to Jeremy’s dad.  The house has 5 acres with it and a pond.  It’s where I walk Jake and pick up pecans.  The woman that lived there passed away a couple of months ago.  She always let us use her land to walk, pick pecans, pick blackberries, and keep our horses.  In return for letting us use it, Jeremy and his dad helped her out with anything that she needed.  Everyone was very neighborly!

Love Thy Neighbor??

The new people are not neighborly at all!  They don’t want to share.  The woman told Jeremy’s dad that she didn’t want anyone back there.  She also does not want anyone picking up “her” pecans or blackberries.  Then she told Jeremy’s dad that he needed to get all of his horse stuff off of her land as soon as possible, and close the gate to the small lot that we have.

I do understand that it is their land, and they can do what they want with it.  I’m just extremely disappointed.  And, she didn’t have to be so rude about it.  This was the conversation that they had literally the first day they were moving in and Jeremy’s dad went over to meet them.  He told them that the hay and the round bale and feed trough were his, and she told him to move it.

The Week's Over - Weekly Recap 12-11-15 (19)

I’m just upset because for the last 6 years, it’s where we have walked Jake almost every day.  He loves to run in the pasture and go all around the pond.  In the summer, he loves swimming in the pond.  When we take him up there, we can let him off of his leash and he can run free.  I also really liked walking there because it is so peaceful.  I’m off the road and there’s no houses or cars or people.  It’s quiet and nice.2015-12-16 17.50.03

For the last 20 plus years, Jeremy and his dad have kept horses there.  Jeremy’s dad even built the fence. It’s just disappointing!

Love thy neighbor??

I just don’t understand people.  It’s not like it’s their back yard or right near their house.  It’s at the back of their property.  They can’t even see it from their house!  I just don’t get what it would hurt for me to walk my dog there.  It’s not like I’m going to be hurting anything.

Tuesday Photo Post (4)

But what I really don’t understand is how the woman can be so hateful about it, and then her husband wants Jeremy’s dad to show him where everything is on the property.  Seriously?!!  I have been outside several times this weekend, and the woman just stares at me.  She isn’t friendly at all!

I think it’s sad that people have to act like that.  Why move in somewhere and be so rude.  Don’t you want to get along with your neighbors?  What if you need to borrow a cup of sugar?

I’m really sad for Jake.  Every time we took him outside this weekend, he tried to head to the pasture.  He doesn’t understand why he can’t go there anymore.  Now I’ll have to walk him on his leash and take him to the other pasture that joins their land.  It’s small, but at least he will be able to run a little bit without his leash on.  It also has the best blackberry bushes, she only has a couple of small ones.  My pasture has two huge ones!  If she doesn’t want to share her land, she can’t come on mine and get blackberries!!  (Actually I’m not that hateful, I would probably let her if she asked.)

Just an Ordinary Week runandlivehappy (7)

Okay, enough of my rant.  I’ll get over it, and so will Jake.  Hopefully that woman won’t be a total jerk forever.

How do you deal with bad neighbors?

Week 5 Marathon Training

Week 2 (1)

Hello Everyone!

Week 5 Marathon Training has come to an end.  It was a good week of training, and I stuck to my plan pretty closely.

Monday – Rest Day – I really needed this after all of the holiday festivities.

Tuesday – I was supposed to run 3 miles.  But, I didn’t.  We went shopping all day.  I did get up early with the intention or running before we left, but the temperature was in the 20’s and there was ice on the road.  So, I went back to bed!  I did get a good workout in from walking around all day!

Wednesday – I was supposed to run 5 miles.  But, I didn’t realize that until after I ran 4 miles.  About an hour after I got home, I looked at my training plan and realized that I had looked at it wrong so I only ran 4.  The first 2 miles of this run were really good, but then I started having some pain in my left leg.  I walked/slowly jogged the last 2 miles.  I went home and iced, massaged, and foam rolled my legs. I think my leg was sore from wearing my Uggs and walking around all day on Tuesday.

I tried out my new socks today!
I tried out my new socks today!

Thursday – I was supposed to run 3 miles, but I ran 6!  I figured I would make up some for missing Tuesday.  My leg felt so much better when I got up, but to be safe I decided to run on the treadmill.  I thought it might be easier on my legs.  It was, and once I hit 5 miles, I decided to just go one more!  This way I kind of made up for missing Tuesday.

New Year's Celebrations New Blog Post run and live happy (14)

Friday – Rest day!  I thought about running today to make up for Tuesday, but my leg was a little sore.   So, instead I foam rolled and massaged it.  I have found that a heating pad seems to really help it too.  I am starting to think it is a shin splint.  It only hurts when I am running, and not all the time.  The only thing I’m not sure about is that the pain is in the top of my ankle.  It’s totally different from the injury to my right leg.  That one hurt from the bottom of my foot to up in my shin, and it throbbed all the time. There were days that I couldn’t even walk on it.  So, hopefully this is just a sore muscle, or a shin splint.

Saturday – I had 10 miles to run today.  I had to do it early in the morning because we were going hunting.  So, it was really cold outside.  I decided to run it on the treadmill since my leg had been so sore all week.  I ran 10 miles on the treadmill!  It was definitely more of a mental challenge than a physical challenge.  I had a good playlist, but I still got really bored.  If anyone has any advice for how to make the time pass on the treadmill please leave me a comment.  Any good audio book recommendations or podcast recommendations?

Marathon Training Week 5

After running, we went hunting and I didn’t get a shot.  Then we went out for Mexican!

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (4)

I was starving by the time we went!  Sometimes after a run, I am hungry all day.  On Thursday, I was like a bottomless pit.  But, after my run on Saturday, I wasn’t hungry at all.  I forced myself to eat a granola bar before we went hunting because I thought I would get hungry while we were there.  My stomach did growl a few times, but it quit and I just wasn’t that hungry.  But, by the time we got to the restaurant I was really hungry.  We started with chips and salsa and goat cheese dip.  It is so good!

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (5)

I ordered the Carne Asada dinner. ( I did not realize how blurry the picture was until I put it in here)

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (6)

Jeremy ordered the Pollo Loco dinner with chorizo sausage.

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (7)

We shared both dinners.  This place has the best grilled chicken breast, and we get it every time we eat there.  I ate everything on my plate!

After dinner we went to pick up a few groceries.

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (9)

I found these new to me foods that I am really excited about!

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (2)

I tried both of them and they were delicious!

I also found this random guy!

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (8)

Then we watched Train Wreck.  It was pretty raunchy!  There were parts of it that were funny, but most of it was just dirty talk.

Marathon Training Week 5 Run and Live Happy (1)

Sunday – Today is a cross train day.  I walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes.  I’m really excited I got my own treadmill….finally!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. I’m also linking up with the other Weekly Wrap bloggers.

Do you have any good advice for making the time pass on the treadmill?
