TV Marathon

This week has been a rough one.  And this post is going to be all over the place because my brain is foggy from the sinus/respiratory infection/flu/common cold – or whatever it is that I have.  It has put me in bed, and I have watched countless hours of TV.

My actual marathon training has been non-existent.  And, I’m still not 100% yet.  As frustrated as I am that I had to miss several runs this week, I did plan for this.  When I chose my training plan, I allowed 3 extra weeks in case something like this came up.  So, if I am unable to get in my long run tomorrow (right now it’s not looking promising), I’m going to just redo this entire week next week.

I’ll catch you up on how I’ve been doing this week.  After my run Tuesday afternoon, I started feeling bad.  I thought maybe I was just tired, but by Tuesday night, my chest was congested and hurt bad!  (You can read all about Tuesday and Wednesday here.)

At first I didn’t feel too bad, I just couldn’t breathe.  So, that meant no running.  But, after two days of struggling to breathe, my back started aching, and everything else followed after that.  I started breathing treatments and mucinex as soon as I felt the tightness in my chest.  I think it helped to keep it from getting really bad.

When I woke up in the mornings I would feel okay.  But, as the day went on, I would wear down pretty fast.  By about 3:30 every day this week I was in bed for the night.  I felt exhausted, but I didn’t sleep much.  I just laid in bed with my eyes closed or watched TV.  This was hard, because while I laid there all I could think about was trying to run, but my body just couldn’t do it.

This week, I have had absolutely no appetite, and have pretty much had to force myself to eat, or Jeremy has.  I have had a lot of chicken noodle soup.  And, that’s how I know I’m sick because I’m not a big soup person, and it tasted amazing!  I have lost 6 pounds in the last three days because all I’ve been eating is yogurt or a granola bar during the day and then soup for dinner.

I feel so weak and have no energy.  I know I’m supposed to be eating healthy to keep my strength up and help me get well, but I felt sick every time I tried.  I at least have been drinking a lot of juice and water.  By Thursday, I really started worrying that maybe I was getting the flu.  That was the worst day.  My whole body was aching, my head hurt, my throat was starting to hurt, and I really couldn’t breathe at all.  I did sleep a lot this day.  I tried some Theraflu tea.  It smelled good and kind of tasted like apple cider, but it had a really strong medicinal after taste.  It was not great, but I forced it down.

It was daytime formula, but I went to sleep right after I drank it.  I slept all afternoon, and then Jeremy made me eat some soup, and then I went right back to sleep for the night.

When I woke up Friday morning, I felt a whole lot better!  I was breathing better, and the tightness in my chest was gone.  My head felt clear and I wasn’t aching.  I thought for sure I would be able to run that afternoon.  My stomach was even growling.  So, on the way to work I stopped by McDonald’s and got a breakfast platter.  I had them substitute an English muffin for the biscuit.  I ate the eggs and the muffin, and felt fine.

But, the rest of the day I couldn’t eat anything else.  After work, I took Jake for a walk.

It was chilly, so I bundled up.  I know it was a bad idea to be out in the cold, but he hasn’t gotten to go for a walk all week.  I tried to jog with him, but I didn’t make it just a few feet before I was winded and wheezing.

So, I knew that I would not be able to run.  When we went home I decided I would clean the house and get rid of the sick germs.  I had a hard time vacuuming because my body started aching again.  I think I start to get better and then I push it and get worse.  So, I laid down and watched TV.  I have watched so much TV this week.  It actually gets boring!

When Jeremy got home from his games, he kept trying to make me eat, but nothing sounded good.  We were watching 2 Broke Girls on TV and they were making cupcakes, and a cupcake actually sounded really good!  So Jeremy helped me make a cake.  I had a box of mix, so we just threw it all together and into the oven.  I did have to get creative with the frosting because I didn’t have any, but I found a recipe on Pinterest for chocolate frosting and made it.  It was pretty good.  Jeremy made himself a frozen pizza, and made me eat a piece of it.  Then, I ate a small piece of cake.

I kept hoping last night that when I woke up today I would feel 100% better and could run today.  But, I’m not.  I slept until around 8, and then laid in bed till 10 because I was so cold.  After I had a hot shower, I ate some more soup, and am bundled up in a blanket sipping on some Theraflu tea now.

Right now I am feeling much better.  I’m still a tiny bit congested.  But, I don’t want to push it and try to run 13 miles today because I still had to use my inhaler this morning and it’s 27 degrees outside.

The sun is deceiving. It's cold!

I’m hoping that if I rest today, I may be able to run some tomorrow.  If I’m being honest, I probably won’t be able too, but I’m still hoping.

So, for the rest of the day I’m going to sit around and watch TV.  I did go out and check the mail, and my new Sweat Pink shoelaces came today!  I love them!  I can’t wait to lace up my shoes and get back out there!

I also made a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a few groceries, and then tonight I’m going with Jeremy to his games.  He said he is taking me to dinner after them and I am going to eat!  I’ve got a couple hours before we leave, so I’m going to take a nap!

What are you up to this weekend?

Aww no sorry you are feeling unwell! Sounds like you have really been suffering! Rest up and take it easy and hopefully you’ll be back to 100% soon- its so frustrating when you are training and illness hits but you are definately doing the right thing waiting to run until you are 100% better!
