Marathon Training Week 8

I finished week 8 of marathon training!!  Most of you already know that I was originally supposed to do week 8 last week, but I was sick all week and unable to run.  So, I did week 8 this week.  I now have 13 weeks until my first marathon!  more “Marathon Training Week 8”

The Beach is Calling

Now that the weather is cold, it makes me wish for a vacation.  Actually, I wish that I could move to a beach in the Caribbean and soak up the sun every day from now on.  I am not a cold weather person at all!  more “The Beach is Calling”

Sleeping and Running (Finally!!)

I think I am turning into a sloth.  Or maybe a hibernating bear.  I feel like all I have been doing is sleeping!  But, I guess it has helped because I think I’m finally on the way to being well, this stuff just hangs on for a while.

Monday morning I woke up feeling much better than I did all last week and this past weekend.  I actually was up around 5:15, way before my alarm went off.  I usually wake up early, but I will lay in bed until my alarm rings.  But I was wide awake, so I got up.  I fixed some oatmeal and ate it while I read emails.  Then I got ready and headed to work.  For lunch I grabbed a Bear Naked protein bar.  more “Sleeping and Running (Finally!!)”

No Running to Report This Week

Unfortunately for this weekly wrap up I don’t have any running to report this week.  I’m pretty bummed about it.  I only got in one 3 mile run this week.  Then I got sick and it’s still hanging on.  It’s been a rough week.  I’m so frustrated that I didn’t get to run.  But, I’m planning on doing week 8 over again next week.  For those of you that follow me, you already know this, but for everyone else – When I picked a training program, I allowed myself 3 extra weeks in case of sickness or injury. Now I’m glad I did that!  I’m slowly feeling better, so I’m hoping that by Tuesday I can start back running.  more “No Running to Report This Week”

TV Marathon

This week has been a rough one.  And this post is going to be all over the place because my brain is foggy from the sinus/respiratory infection/flu/common cold – or whatever it is that I have.  It has put me in bed, and I have watched countless hours of TV.   more “TV Marathon”

Under the (cold) Weather

Happy almost Friday everyone!  The cold weather in my little corner of the world has finally set in, and I finally got sick.  Boo!  I guess I didn’t knock on wood hard enough because I keep talking about how I haven’t been sick this year, but now that wellness streak is over.  It did last longer than normal though.  Usually I start getting respiratory infections in September and don’t get rid of them until March.  So, that is an improvement.  more “Under the (cold) Weather”

Tell Me Something Good

I listen to the Morning Mash Up show on my XM radio every morning.  On Tuesdays, they always do a “tell me something good” segment and have people call in and give good news.  Yesterday I had their little jingle stuck in my head all day, so I thought I would share my good news for the day.

I had an exciting gift in my email yesterday!  Wellcoin had sent me a $10.00 Amazon card!   more “Tell Me Something Good”

Marathon Training Week 7

Marathon Training Week 7 Run and Live Happy

Going into week 7 I had a new determination to do this training.  After having such an awful week during week 6 of training, I was going to make week 7 better!  Thank you to all of you who commented last week with encouraging words or advice.  It really helped feel better!  I did a lot of thinking this week about all of the training and the marathon.  I read a lot of recaps about the Disney World Marathon, and I found a lot of inspiration in those posts.  I wrote it all out to help me make sense of it, and you can see it here

Monday – Monday was a rest day.  The weather was beautiful and I just could not stay inside, so I took Jake for a walk.  We walked for an hour.

Tuesday – I had 3 miles scheduled today.  I had planned on running right after work, but my dad needed me to help him, so I only had time to walk Jake before he picked me up.  Then, I didn’t get back home until after dark.  I started on the treadmill and made it about a mile and a half and my foot started hurting.  It was sharp pains and something that I could not ignore.  So, I cut the run short and iced my foot.

Wednesday – I had 6 miles scheduled today.  I was anxious because my foot had hurt so bad the night before.  But, it wasn’t hurting on Wednesday so I decided to run.  I did it close to home in case it started hurting again.  I had an awesome run!   It made me feel so much better about week 6!  I ran without any aches or pain!  After my run, I went home and got Jake and took him for a walk.  By the time we got home, my foot was hurting again.  So I made sure to stretch, massage, and ice it.

Thursday – I had 3 miles scheduled for Thursday.  When I got up, my foot was hurting so bad that I could not put much pressure on it.  I wrapped a heating pad around it for awhile and then it didn’t bother me the rest of the day.  I ran my 3 miles, and it was the best run I have had in a while.  I felt great, and I ran fast and didn’t get tired.  The weather was absolutely beautiful, and I just really enjoyed this run.  When I finished, I took Jake for a walk and then went home and iced my foot and leg.

Friday – Today was a rest day from running and I needed it.  My foot hurt, so I was glad that I had a scheduled day off to rest it.  I iced it and wrapped a heating pad around it and that really helped.  I also wore compression socks and my running shoes all day, and that helped too.  After work, I took Jake for about an hour long walk.

Saturday – I had 12 miles scheduled today.  All week I was looking forward to this run.  I am really happy that I am back up to this mileage.  It didn’t take near as long as I thought it would to get here!  However, when I woke up and got dressed it was 26 degrees outside and it was supposed to start snowing.  Instead of running it on the treadmill, I opted to wait until Sunday when it was supposed to be warmer and sunny.  So, Saturday was full of stretching and foam rolling.

Sunday  – I am so glad that I waited to do my long run until today!  The sun was out!   When I got up, I had a banana and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  After about 45 minutes, I headed out the door.  I decided to run by my house in case my foot started bothering me.  Luckily it didn’t, but I got bored really fast.  I alternated miles between the two side roads near my house.  This run wasn’t as easy as last week’s run.  My body was tired, and I had a hard time adjusting to the cold.  It’s been in the upper 50’s and 60’s here, and then today it was 36.  My lungs were burning and I felt like I could not catch my breath!  I took several walk breaks, and halfway through I ran home and got a drink.

It took me a lot longer than I expected, but I got it done. My legs were aching, so the walking helped with that.  I was so tired when I got home.  I just wanted to lay in the floor and sip my water, and I did for a minute.

Then, I foam rolled my legs and then put heat on them.  They are feeling much better.  I honestly wanted to quit around mile 9, but I knew that I would be mad at myself.  I kept going, and kept repeating, “I am doing this!”  And, it got me through the last 3 miles! I was starving when I got done!  I fixed me a plate of turkey, pickles, and muenster cheese.

Then, we took Jake for a walk.  It was so cold!  I had to wear one of Jeremy’s dad’s coats because I wasn’t bundled up enough.

As I go through this journey, I’m seeing how every run is different.  There are going to be good runs and bad runs, and everything in between.  I wouldn’t classify Sunday’s run as a good or bad run.   It was just okay, but I’m so happy that I was able to do it!

I’m ready to start week 8 of training and see what it brings.

I am doing this!
