Going into week 7 I had a new determination to do this training. After having such an awful week during week 6 of training, I was going to make week 7 better! Thank you to all of you who commented last week with encouraging words or advice. It really helped feel better! I did a lot of thinking this week about all of the training and the marathon. I read a lot of recaps about the Disney World Marathon, and I found a lot of inspiration in those posts. I wrote it all out to help me make sense of it, and you can see it here.
Monday – Monday was a rest day. The weather was beautiful and I just could not stay inside, so I took Jake for a walk. We walked for an hour.
Tuesday – I had 3 miles scheduled today. I had planned on running right after work, but my dad needed me to help him, so I only had time to walk Jake before he picked me up. Then, I didn’t get back home until after dark. I started on the treadmill and made it about a mile and a half and my foot started hurting. It was sharp pains and something that I could not ignore. So, I cut the run short and iced my foot.
Wednesday – I had 6 miles scheduled today. I was anxious because my foot had hurt so bad the night before. But, it wasn’t hurting on Wednesday so I decided to run. I did it close to home in case it started hurting again. I had an awesome run! It made me feel so much better about week 6! I ran without any aches or pain! After my run, I went home and got Jake and took him for a walk. By the time we got home, my foot was hurting again. So I made sure to stretch, massage, and ice it.
Thursday – I had 3 miles scheduled for Thursday. When I got up, my foot was hurting so bad that I could not put much pressure on it. I wrapped a heating pad around it for awhile and then it didn’t bother me the rest of the day. I ran my 3 miles, and it was the best run I have had in a while. I felt great, and I ran fast and didn’t get tired. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and I just really enjoyed this run. When I finished, I took Jake for a walk and then went home and iced my foot and leg.
Friday – Today was a rest day from running and I needed it. My foot hurt, so I was glad that I had a scheduled day off to rest it. I iced it and wrapped a heating pad around it and that really helped. I also wore compression socks and my running shoes all day, and that helped too. After work, I took Jake for about an hour long walk.
Saturday – I had 12 miles scheduled today. All week I was looking forward to this run. I am really happy that I am back up to this mileage. It didn’t take near as long as I thought it would to get here! However, when I woke up and got dressed it was 26 degrees outside and it was supposed to start snowing. Instead of running it on the treadmill, I opted to wait until Sunday when it was supposed to be warmer and sunny. So, Saturday was full of stretching and foam rolling.
Sunday – I am so glad that I waited to do my long run until today! The sun was out! When I got up, I had a banana and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After about 45 minutes, I headed out the door. I decided to run by my house in case my foot started bothering me. Luckily it didn’t, but I got bored really fast. I alternated miles between the two side roads near my house. This run wasn’t as easy as last week’s run. My body was tired, and I had a hard time adjusting to the cold. It’s been in the upper 50’s and 60’s here, and then today it was 36. My lungs were burning and I felt like I could not catch my breath! I took several walk breaks, and halfway through I ran home and got a drink.
It took me a lot longer than I expected, but I got it done. My legs were aching, so the walking helped with that. I was so tired when I got home. I just wanted to lay in the floor and sip my water, and I did for a minute.
Then, I foam rolled my legs and then put heat on them. They are feeling much better. I honestly wanted to quit around mile 9, but I knew that I would be mad at myself. I kept going, and kept repeating, “I am doing this!” And, it got me through the last 3 miles! I was starving when I got done! I fixed me a plate of turkey, pickles, and muenster cheese.
Then, we took Jake for a walk. It was so cold! I had to wear one of Jeremy’s dad’s coats because I wasn’t bundled up enough.
As I go through this journey, I’m seeing how every run is different. There are going to be good runs and bad runs, and everything in between. I wouldn’t classify Sunday’s run as a good or bad run. It was just okay, but I’m so happy that I was able to do it!
I’m ready to start week 8 of training and see what it brings.
I am doing this!
