Week 4 Marathon Training

Week 2 (3)

Week 4 of marathon training is over!  This week was absolutely crazy!!  There was so much going on with Christmas, and it made it pretty much impossible to stick to my training schedule.  But, I did the best I could, and I am looking forward to everything slowing down so I can get back in a routine.

Here is what my week was supposed to look like:

Mon              Tues                      Wed                      Thurs                     Fri                           Sat                          Sun

Rest               3 mi                        4 mi                        3 mi                        Rest                       9 mi                        Cross

Here is what my week actually looked like:

Mon              Tues                      Wed                      Thurs                     Fri                           Sat                          Sun

5 mi              3 mi                        9 mi                        Rest                      Rest                     Rest                        Cross

Monday – 5 miles – I needed to make up the long run from last weekend since I was out of town on Saturday and sick on Sunday.

Tuesday – 3 miles – It took me a little while to warm up.  Actually, almost the entire run!  I hate running in the morning.  I am still asleep, and my body hurts.  I do so much better when I run later in the day.

Wednesday – 9 miles – This run was a huge deal for me!  I knew that I was going to be out of town this weekend as well, so I didn’t want to push this long run into next week.  I decided that since I didn’t have anything to do on Wednesday that I would go ahead and get it done.  The weather was perfect, and I had a really good run.  I did get chased by a Doberman.  I am really tired of people letting their dogs run free!  I didn’t have any pain the entire run, and I didn’t get tired!  I felt like I could have kept going, but it was getting dark and Jeremy was waiting on me to finish.  This run was really encouraging!  This is the longest distance that I have run since April, and to do it with no pain or trouble was exciting!  It wasn’t easy, but it definitely wasn’t hard.  It’s just motivation to keep going!  And I’m really excited that I didn’t have any pain in my legs.   I’m really hoping that I can keep it that way!  I went home and iced, massaged, and stretched both legs, and they were not sore at all on Thursday.

Thursday – Rest day – I had too much to do to get ready for Christmas at my house Thursday night. I did take Jake for a walk!

Friday – Rest day – it was Christmas! So, I rested. I really did plan on getting up and running before we went to my mom’s, but I didn’t get up early enough.  Then after lunch we hurried home and packed and headed out of town to visit some family.

Saturday – Rest day – We were out of town and there was no way I could run.

Sunday – Cross training – I did some strength training.

Even though I missed a couple of runs this week, I’m glad I got my long run in.   Hopefully next week everything will slow down and I can get back on a normal training schedule.

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. I’m also linking up with the other Weekly Wrap bloggers.

Were you able to get your runs in during Christmas?

I did run over Christmas break. Friday is my rest day, and I rested on Christmas. It was so hard not to run! But I’m struggling with PF and I didn’t want to aggravate it.

My crazy baking night was Wednesday as I traveled on Thursday. Way to go and get those miles in during a crazy hectic week! I got a couple of runs in and one cycling session. I’m happy to hear your 9 miles went so well and that the Doberman didn’t catch you! Loose dogs aggravate me too. I was really encouraged last week with a 12 miler, but then struggled with my long run this weekend. Good luck as you continue to train. Thank for linking, Tara!

Your long run is the really important one 😉 That is great you felt like you could have kept going, I think that is one the best feelings ever when you know you could do more.
I have the loose dog issue sometimes too since I only run through neighborhoods, it is scary to get chased.
I missed my long run this week, I will have to see if I can get one done early in this week.

I started carrying pepper spray…I don’t want to have to use it but if a dog is going to bite me I will! Good luck with your long run this week!

Good for you for logging any miles this week! That’s awesome. I was swamped and had to be happy grabbing two or three miles here and there, maybe doing a barefoot HIIT workout between chores and errands. But I feel good. Looking forward to getting into a routine, like you said. Glad you had a nice Christmas! Hope you stay cozy in this crazy weather we’re having.

You got pretty close to the weekly mileage you were shooting for in total so I’d call that a total win! Nice work. I did not quite make my goal of 1000 for 2015 so I am a bit bummed out but end of the year leg issues sort of got in the way. I am happy to have ended the year though with some nice trail runs and hikes. Looking forward to 2016 now! Happy New Year – almost!!

Thanks! That’s a huge goal!! You can’t help it that your leg didn’t cooperate. Happy New Year to you too!

This week has been hard for most people I think. Even with the holiday at the end of the week, there is so much to do leading up to it.

Good job getting your runs in and congrats on a pain free 9 miler!

What marathon are you training for?

Thanks! I try to adjust and not stress out about it. I just figured with this week as long as I got in my long run I was good!

Wasn’t it a crazy week? The weather was someting else here with all the tornadoes, then we headed to GA and it was hot and rained a lot! I did get in my 1st taper run so was glad of that. I have another challenging week with our travel but I feel like somehow I’ll get it in. I laughed at you not being a morning runner. I was not either, until well I made it a habit and now I love it. I guess it’s just what you get use too. Thanks so much for joining us again in the Weekly Wrap! 🙂

When is your race?? It’s 30 degrees and icy here today. I would trade that for the heat and rain!! I tried last summer to get up and run each day but I didn’t stick to it…maybe this summer I can do better!

Great job getting your runs done during the holidays! The weather has been awful here so I had to rearrange my runs around the storms. When it wasn’t storming, it was so humid and muggy. I got the last of my runs done on Saturday and Sunday. I’m not currently training for anything, just following Hal Higdon’s marathon recovery plan to help me recover from my full earlier this month. I hope you have a Happy New Year!

Thank you! It’s icy here now so I’m going to be stuck on the treadmill for awhile! Happy New Year to you too!!
