Hi! Did you do anything fun this weekend?
My weekend was pretty calm. Friday night, Jeremy had to work really late. He owns his own company, and he had a job that had to be finished by Saturday. But, they couldn’t start it until the business closed at 5 on Friday. So, I helped him work Friday night. We didn’t get home until after 11. Then, by the time we went to bed it was close to 1 am.
So, Saturday morning I slept in until about 10. I drug myself out of bed, (I am NOT a morning person! And I don’t care what time of the morning it is!) and made some toast with peanut butter and jelly.
Then I waited about 45 minutes before I went to run. My training plan had me running 6 miles, and I was really dreading it. I have not run over 4 since July, and I have not run much since July. So, this was a huge amount of miles for me. But, I did it, and it wasn’t that bad. It was hard, because I am pretty much starting completely over, but I did it! I had to walk a few times, but that’s okay. I was proud of myself!
After my run, I rushed home to get ready to go hunting with Jeremy. This was the last weekend of rifle season. I quickly fixed a protein shake on my way back out the door.
We got to our blind around 2.
For the first couple of hours, I watched my cousin online compete in the finals of the World Tap Competition in Germany. I’m so glad they had it streaming live. She did awesome, and her trio and group both won 2nd in the world!!
After that, my phone battery was low, so I watched for deer. I was absolutely starving! My stomach kept growling, and it probably scared off all of the deer. I didn’t see anything until right before dark. I had a group of does come in, but they didn’t stay long.
After they left, we left too. We headed home to get ready to go out to eat. We’ve been really busy the last few weeks, and it feels like we haven’t been out in a long time. While I was getting ready, my mom called and wanted to know if we had power. I told her yes, and she said that she didn’t have any, and several of her friends all around town didn’t have any. We live about 5 minutes outside of the city limits, so we didn’t know if it was just in town or not. But, our whole road had power. We headed to town to eat, but once we got there literally the entire town was dark! We drove all around town for probably 30-45 minutes, and there was no power! I called my grandma to see if they had power and they didn’t, and she was cold. But, she didn’t want us to come get them. As soon as I hung up with her, we started noticing a few businesses that were lighting back up.
We drove around to see what our options were. If they had power, most restaurants were closed anyways because they had been without it for so long. So, our choices were Applebees, Santa Fe Steakhouse, and a local sports bar. I really don’t like any of them, but I figured I could find a salad at Applebees. So, we pulled in there and they came out and told us that the kitchen was closed and would not open until at least 11.
We left and went to the sports bar. We hadn’t eaten here in a really long time, because the few times that we had it wasn’t very good. Plus, they really don’t have any healthy choices. The menu pretty much consists of pizza, wings, burgers, sandwiches, and wraps. But, it was getting late and we were both hungry, so in we went. It was packed, and service was slow. We were in there over 2 hours! We ordered a $5 basket of chips and salsa! I thought for this price, it must be good. Anywhere else you go, you can get a bottomless basket of chips and salsa for $3 max! But, these weren’t bottomless, and they weren’t good.
The salsa was homemade, but all you could taste was garlic and the chips were greasy and kind of chewy. I ordered a burger and Jeremy ordered a bacon, chicken, and ranch wrap. My burger was really good! I only ate half, although I could have eaten it all! But, I was trying to be somewhat healthy.
Jeremy ate the other half of my burger, and tried to give me half of his wrap. But, I didn’t like it. It had way to much ranch on it for me. While we were eating, we were talking to the guys next to us. They told us that a construction company had hit a transmission line while they were digging and knocked out all of the power in town. They heard that the company will be fined like $15,000 for doing that! That was a pricey mistake!
After we ate, the waitress brought our ticket and Jeremy handed her our card. She came back and said that because of the power outage, the internet is down, so she couldn’t run the card and wanted to know if we had cash. I never carry cash, and Jeremy didn’t have enough for the bill. So, she told us that they could take a picture of his card and run it the next day. That was not happening! So, I had to leave him there and run to the ATM to get cash. Luckily, it was working!
We didn’t have a terrible experience there, and the food was pretty good. (or we were just really hungry!) But, we probably won’t go back again for a long time. We only ever eat in there anyways because our friends like it. But they don’t eat there anymore either. I won’t go back because their prices are ridiculously high! My burger was $7. But, to add cheese was $1.50, and to add a side was another $2.09. Jeremy wanted to order chips and queso. But, it was $8, and it was another $3 to add salsa to that. He also looked at ordering some hot wings, but it was $8 for 6 wings. I just couldn’t understand why the prices were so high.
By the time we left there it was late. We had been planning on dinner and then driving around looking at Christmas lights, but with a lot of power still out, we couldn’t. We went home and went to bed to watch TV, but I fell asleep as soon as I laid down.
Sunday, I went to a baby shower for my best friend. She is due in 7 weeks!
Her sister in law hosted the shower, and she went overboard on the decorations.
It was the most beautifully decorated shower I have ever been to.
We played the Price is Right for baby items, and I was only off by $3 when they gave the right answers.
Then they opened presents, and they got a ton of stuff!
I can’t wait until I get to go help put the nursery together! When the shower was over, I headed to Walmart to pick up our Christmas cards and a few groceries.
I got some Silk Nog and it is really good. It’s not as thick and creamy as the Southern Comfort, but it has a really good flavor. And, it’s only 80 calories for a ½ cup serving; much better than the Southern Comfort! I still have about a half of the carton left of the Southern Comfort because I just can’t drink that many calories. Now I can enjoy some eggnog and not worry about the calories.
When I got home, I took Jake for a long walk. It was a beautiful December day, it was 62 degrees!
We walked for a long time because yesterday was a cross train day, so I chose to walk.
Then I went in and addressed Christmas cards and watched Food Network. I’m really liking all of the special holiday shows that they have on.
Even though this post is long, I really didn’t do much this weekend. It was a really good weekend, and I wasn’t ready for it to end.
What did you do this weekend?
