2015 Reflections

In celebration of the last day of 2015 I am reflecting on the year behind me and want to share some of my biggest moments.  2015 was a big year for me.  It was full of highs and lows (injury).  I’m ready to see what 2016 brings!

January

In January I was asked to be the face of the graduate program at my alma mater.  I was a little nervous at first, but it turned out to be really cool!  They put my face on millions of post cards that they sent out all over the country.  They also have a 6 foot banner of me that they take to conferences.

Reflections of 2015

March

Of course, some of my highlights of 2015 included running accomplishments.  I ran my first half marathon in March.  I got to run with my best friend!  I was so nervous!  But I finished in 2:05, and I was hooked.

Reflections on 2015 March

April

I loved it so much that I turned around and ran another half in April.  This one I got to run with my dad and it was really special!  I was hurt, and this race was really hard for me.  So, I’m proud that I finished it.  (This is the worst picture ever, but it’s the only one I have.)

Reflections of 2015 April

I got hurt in this race, and was pretty much off until the end of October.  But, I worked hard for those halfs, and I am extremely proud of myself for doing something that I never thought possible!

June

In June, my beautiful cousin competed in the Miss Oklahoma Teen pageant.  I was so proud and loved watching her make the top 10!

Reflections of 2015 June

July

July was a busy month.  I ran a 10K with my dad on the 4th of July.  This was the first time I had run since April, so I was proud that I finished it.

Reflections of 2015 July 4th

Then at the end of July, we went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica for a week and then from there to California for a week!  It was an awesome vacation!

August

At the beginning of August, I quit drinking pop.  I started drinking green tea, and I have not had any pop since then.  This was a huge deal for me!

September

We spent Labor Day with our family at the lake.  It’s always a highlight when we get to spend time with them!

Reflections of 2015 Sept

At the end of September, we went to a Gloriana concert and I got to meet them!

October

In October, I was cleared by a doctor and got to start running again, and I ran a race on Halloween.

November

We went to the Oklahoma Bedlam game!  It was the coldest day of the year, but it was the most fun I have ever had at a football game!

December
Christmas was the highlight of this month.  All of the time we got to spend with our family was awesome!

Twenty fifteen was a great year, but I am looking forward to twenty sixteen!

What was your favorite part of 2015?

Let’s Talk About Running

Let’s talk about my running this week…or lack of.  With the holidays and all of the celebrating we have been doing, I have gotten a little off of my schedule.  Monday was a rest day, and I should have run.  But, I was worn out from all of the festivities and I thought I would rest.  And, we took my grandparents to a basketball game.  They had a blast!

Tuesday was supposed to be 3 miles, but we ended up going shopping, so I didn’t get a chance to run.  Well technically I could have run early that morning, but the temperature was in the 20’s and the roads were icy.  So, I skipped.

Yesterday I finally ran.  It’s been a week, and I have missed my running shoes!!  I tried out my new Bombas socks, and I loved them!  They are so comfortable.

I ran 4 miles.  Before my run I had some turkey with carrots and hummus.

I waited about 30 minutes and then headed out.  The weather was really cold!  I had debated on going to my mom’s to run on her treadmill (which she gave to me and we brought home last night!!  So excited!!), but then the sun came out.

I ran the first 2 miles with no problems.  I wasn’t even that cold once I started going.  But, then my left leg started hurting bad, and my right one was aching a little bit.  I walked for a little while, and then continued.  I know it’s stupid to run when I’m in pain, but I went really slow and went home and used my foam roller and iced both legs.

I think they were hurting because I walked around all day Tuesday in my Uggs.  Or, maybe because I haven’t run in a week.  When I got home, I realized that I had looked at my training plan wrong, and I ran 4 miles instead of 5.

After my run, I took Jake for a walk.  He likes the cold weather and ran and ran!

When we got home I was really hungry, so I ate some oatmeal with brown sugar and cranberries.

Since I didn’t get my 5 miles in yesterday, I’m going to try to do it today.  I iced, massaged, and used a heating pad on my legs and they seem to be fine today.

I know starting next week everything will go back to normal so I’ll be able to get back on a pretty consistent schedule.

How is your training going?

Shop Till You Drop!

Yesterday, we shopped until we dropped!  For Christmas, Jeremy and I got a lot of gift cards and money! So, yesterday we went to Norman to go spend it all!  I got up really early and was going to run before we left, but it was 28 degrees and there was ice on the ground so I didn’t.  Instead, I made lists of all of the places I wanted to go, and things I wanted to buy.  I definitely got a workout from walking around all day.

When we got to Norman, we stopped at Sooner Mall to go to Old Navy.

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (13)

My nana gave me a gift card for there and I was super excited about using it.  But, I went at the wrong time.  They were in the “in between” stage and there was not much on the racks or shelves.  Everything was on sale and they were trying to get rid of all of it.  I found 2 sweaters that I liked, but they did not have my size in either of them.  I was so disappointed, but at least I still have a gift card for when they do get their new stuff out.

I have figured something out about Old Navy.  Tell me if you have noticed this too.  If I shop in the store and find something that I like, I can order it online for a lot cheaper.  Unless it is a really good deal in the store, I will take pictures of everything that I like and then go online and order it.  I think I save a ton of money that way!  They are always having big sales online.  Since they didn’t have my size in the sweaters I liked, we decided that we would go to the Old Navy in Oklahoma City later to see if they had them. (They were on sale for $10!)

When we left Old Navy, we walked across to Sun and Ski Sports to search for some new Toms.  I tried to find some before Christmas, but the store didn’t have my size.  Lucky for me, they had a sale for buy one get one half!

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (14)

And, they had my size in black and navy!  So, I got two new pairs.  The girl checking me out was teasing me because I wear kids sizes in Toms.  She went on and on about how much cheaper they are, and I agree.  The only down side is that unless I like hearts and flowers, there really aren’t a lot of kids designs that I can wear.  But, I was really happy to get these since mine were worn out!

File Dec 30, 6 41 37 PM

We decided we didn’t want to walk around the mall, so we left and headed to the other Old Navy.  It was about the same as the one in Norman.  The only difference was that it looked completely ransacked!  There was hardly anything hanging, it was all thrown on the tables, so you had to dig.  I had to do some searching, but I found one of the sweaters I wanted in my size!

When we left there it was around noon and I was starving!  I had skipped breakfast because I wasn’t hungry and I figured we would eat an early lunch.  We went to Chick-Fil-A.  I got the chicken nuggets meal and thanks to Heather at Polyglot Jot’s recommendation, I tried the chick-fil-a sauce.  It was really good!  I think I like it better than the honey mustard now.  Jeremy tried it too and he really liked it!  I’m hooked now!

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (11)

We left there and headed to Moore to return some things to Gordman’s.  Since we didn’t have the receipt, we had to exchange them.  We got some new pillows, a new toy for Jake, and Jeremy got a couple of new shirts.  I also got a new silicone spatula.

File Dec 30, 6 42 22 PM

Then we headed over to Hobby Lobby so I could find something to hang my medals on.  Right now I just have them laying on top of my dresser, but I really want to hang them up.  I found a rack ( I think it’s a towel rack) that will work for now.  I am eventually going to order one.  I want a metal one that says “always earned, never given”.  I’ll post a picture when I get them hung up!  I was bummed that we missed all of the Christmas stuff.  It was 66% off, but it was all picked over and there wasn’t hardly any left.  That’s okay though because we really didn’t need anything.

When we came out of there, we walked next door to a Fan Outfitters store.  Jeremy bought us both a new OU t-shirt to wear while we watch the game tomorrow!  Mine’s the black one!

After leaving there, we went down the road to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Jeremy loves to shop this time of year because they have all of the camo and hunting stuff on sale.

We He spent about an hour in there looking at all their hunting stuff.   I spent about an hour in there looking at running socks and shoes and clothes and they had this board with upcoming races.

I think the Frozen Nose series sounds fun.  I will have to see how it could fit into my training schedule and also what we will be doing on those days.  (The race is 2 hours away from me)  We left there empty handed because everything he found, he thought we could find at Academy and he had gift cards there.

We headed back to Norman and stopped at Ulta.  They were having their big sale on jumbo shampoos and conditioners.  I have desperately been searching for a new shampoo and conditioner since mine changed it’s formula.   I found Jeremy’s on sale for $12.99!

I bought this kind for me, and I will do a post once I figure out if I like it or not.

When I was in line to check out, I found this in one of the bins by the cash register.

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (7)

I didn’t pay attention to the box.  The bin said under eye concealer.  I got up extremely early yesterday morning and I had HUGE bags under my eyes.  And, ironically, while I was up so early I watched an infomercial about It cosmetics.  So I was thinking “Sweet! This will cover up the bags!”  I threw it in with my stuff and headed out the door.  Once I got in the car, and used it, I realized that it wasn’t concealer, it’s foundation.  I tried it this morning, and I don’t know what I think about it.  It seems really thick, but it didn’t seem to cover very well.  I’ll try it again tomorrow and see what I think.  (On that subject, my mom sells Mary Kay, so that is all I have ever worn.  I wouldn’t know how to go into a store and pick out makeup! My mom has always given me what I need.)

When we left Ulta, we headed to Academy.  This is what Jeremy was waiting for all day!  He drove me around and followed me through all the stores I wanted to go in, so I could repay the favor!  By the time we got there my feet and legs were hurting from walking around in my Uggs all day, but I sucked it up and was a good wife.  (Very minimal complaining!)  Jeremy had some gift cards to spend, so I was thinking we would be in there around an hour.  If you follow me on Snap Chat, you got see how long we were in there, and how bored I was!

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (20)

We spent almost 3 and a half hours in Academy!! We started with all of the compression stuff.  Jeremy needed new stuff to wear when he referees.  I had bought him a shirt for Christmas, but it didn’t fit.  So, he had to try on several different tops and bottoms.  Then, we moved on to camo.  They had all of their camo on sale, so we went through all of it and he tried on a ton of it.  He ended up getting 2 sets of pants, shirts, and coats.  (Which he needed, his is faded and old!)

Then we looked at all of the deer stands that were on sale, and compared all of them.  He ended up getting 2 of those.

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (18)

Then, we went to the shoe department in search of some new socks.  He ended up trying on tons of shoes, and he even broke a display because he was trying to stretch the cord down so he could try on that shoe!  Oops!

I did get a new foam roller, a running tank, and some new running shorts that were on sale for $5!

We literally closed the place down!  All of the employees were standing at the front door when we checked out, and several of them gladly helped us load the car!

With the car completely full of new things, we were done shopping since we couldn’t fit any more bags in there!  We were both hungry, so we went through our choices.  Neither of us wanted Mexican or Italian.  So we settled on Outback.

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (4)

We haven’t eaten there since March!  Jeremy ordered a Bloomin’ Onion and we didn’t even eat half of it.

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (5)

It was good, but it was just way too much fried food.  I really wanted a cheese burger.  I rarely eat those, and that sounded so good.  But I’m trying to clean up my diet after the holiday’s so I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich.

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (12)

It was not so great.  The menu said it had avocados on it, but it came with guacamole that tasted like lime.  I scraped it off and ate just the chicken and few fries.  Jeremy shared his side salad with me.  He ordered a huge pork chop, baked potato, and side salad.  He said it was really good!  It must have been because he ate all of it!

Shop Till You Drop New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (6)

When we finished dinner, we headed home.  It was such a fun day!  I didn’t really get much stuff, or many clothes.  But, I still have my Old Navy gift card.  I’ll make up for it soon!

Are you getting back into a healthy routine, or do you wait until the new year?

Four Christmases – Christmas Weekend

I’m finally to our last Christmas and this one lasted the longest.  After Christmas morning with my family, we went home and packed to head out of town to spend Christmas night with our cousins and Aunt S and Uncle B.  S and B were at my father-in-law’s, so we went over there before we all got on the road.  Jake was trying to tell S not to leave him.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (10)

We arrived at Jeremy’s other aunt and uncle’s house around 5:30.  His cousin K was there with her husband and my favorite tiny person!  I got her all to myself for about an hour!

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (14)

Then the other cousins and their kids, M and C got there.  They were having tacos for dinner, but I was still pretty full.  I ate a tiny taco salad and a little bit of cherry cream cheese pie.  (We brought all of our leftover food)

After dinner we let the kids open the gifts in their stockings.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (12)

We were going to have Christmas the next day and have a huge meal with all of the Thanksgiving food.  This whole family was in New York over Thanksgiving.  M was dancing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, so they missed a traditional meal.

By 9:30 I was exhausted, so I went down to the guest house to get ready for bed.  The next morning, everyone got up early to go hunting.  I didn’t want to go, so I slept in.  I slept through breakfast, but that was okay since I ate so much the day before.  M got a deer, so Jeremy and her dad had to clean it and take it to the processor.  While they did that, and everyone else got ready for Christmas lunch, I got to play with my favorite tiny person!  She is a ball of energy!  She wanted to ride her tricycle, and then we made pictures with Christmas stickers.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (13)

Every few minutes she kept asking if we could open gifts.  She was really excited about them!

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (21)

For lunch we had turkey, stuffing, broccoli and rice casserole, corn, green bean casserole, hot rolls, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and salad.  I was still full from all of the food I had eaten in the last 24 hours, so I didn’t eat very much.  I had some sweet potato, turkey, salad, and corn.  Jeremy’s aunt makes the best corn!

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (15)

After lunch, we opened gifts!  Jeremy and I gave our favorite little person a toy walking dog.  She absolutely loved it!  More than I thought she would!  She kept hugging it and petting it like it was a real dog.

I gave M a Divinity LA bracelet.  She was really excited about it!

And, we gave C a National Geographic Kids weird facts books.  He really liked it.

They gave Jeremy an original Wa-Hoo board.  He has been wanting one for a long time.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (20)

And, they gave me some lululemon tights!  This is my first pair of them, and I am in love!!  I also got a camo t-shirt with a pink monogram on it, and a rain jacket with my monogram on it!

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (8)

This one got a karoke machine and she serenaded us all night with Frozen songs and Taylor Swift!  She is so cute!!

When we were done opening gifts, we went hunting.  M and I sat together in a tower blind.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (22)

Jeremy and C dropped us off and we weren’t in it ten minutes and a massive thunderstorm hit.  The wind was blowing so hard, and the blind was swaying.  There were bolts of lightning all around us, and the rain was pounding so hard that it was coming straight in the closed windows.  At one point it completely stopped and was eerily still.  I kept thinking a tornado was going to drop down on us any second.  But then the storm started again.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (9)

We were pretty scared!!  But, we had fun taking pictures and talking.  We knew we weren’t going to see any deer so we didn’t really try to be quiet.  Plus, they wouldn’t have been able to hear us over the storm.  It was quite an adventure!!

Jeremy and C came to get us in the middle of the storm, and we headed back to the house to get dry!  Once everyone got back, the kids opened a few more presents and then we just hung out and visited.  We played Blockus, and I am not any good at it!!  I lost every time we played!  He beat me twice!

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (23)

They set some food out for dinner.  I ate some goat cheese and crackers, turkey, and a piece of sweet potato.  Then I had a piece of pumpkin pie for dessert.  Then C got out his new hover board and we all took turns on it.  It was so hard!!  I was impressed that I could actually stand up on it.  It took me a little bit to get used to it.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (2)

Jeremy had a hard time getting up on it.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (1)

He was able to figure it out and get it going.

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

We hung out with everyone until around 8 when the storm let up a little and then we headed home.  We got home around 9 and unloaded the truck.  We were both so tired, so we went straight to bed.  I think I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow!

Sunday morning we slept in, and then got up and put up all of the Christmas decorations.  I always hate to put them up. 🙁

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (4)

As much as I love the holidays, I am glad to get things back to normal.  I love all of the unhealthy food that comes with them, but I don’t like to eat that kind of food so much.  At least three times over this holiday, I got sick to my stomach.  It’s because I never eat such rich, greasy, and good food.  I know it’s unhealthy and my body isn’t used to it, so it makes me sick.  So, I am ready to be able to get back on a healthy routine and get my running back on schedule and eat healthier again

Jeremy and I went to the grocery store Sunday in the pouring rain and got some healthy foods!

Four Christmases - Christmas Weekend New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (6)

I left all of our leftover pies and food at his aunt and uncle’s house.  I have cleared out all of unhealthy foods in our house and I am ready to clean up my diet!

I also bought myself a Christmas present – a Pioneer Woman skillet!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and were able to spend time with your loved ones!

Four Christmases – Christmas Morning

By Christmas morning, I had already celebrated two Christmases.  You can read about my first one here, and Christmas Eve here.

Christmas day was absolutely beautiful!!  The weather was amazing and it was 70 degrees outside!  We could not have asked for a nicer day!  I would take this weather over a white Christmas any year!

Four Christmases - Christmas Morning New Blog Post Run and LIve Happy (15)

One Christmas tradition that my family has is that we always have breakfast on Christmas morning.  We’ve done this for as long as I can remember.  Another tradition is the food that we always have.  There is always sausage balls and strawberry bread.  This year was no different!

Jeremy and I got to my parent’s house around 10:15 Christmas morning.  I helped my dad finish the gravy and scramble the eggs while Jeremy helped my grandparents bring all of their gifts and food over.  (They live across the street.)

Once everything was ready, we sat down to eat.  We had scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, and sausage balls.  I’m sure by now you know how much I love breakfast food, so I really enjoyed this meal!

Four Christmases - Christmas Morning New Blog Post Run and LIve Happy (4)

We ate and visited with my family.  When everyone was finished, we cleaned up and I got busy passing out presents.  This has been my job for several years now.

This was my mom’s new cat’s first Christmas.  She was all about the paper and bows!

The other cat, Nala, didn’t really care so much.  (She used to be mine!)

Four Christmases - Christmas Morning New Blog Post Run and LIve Happy (14)

We went around the room and opened gifts one at a time.  It usually takes us awhile to do this.  I have a small family, and this year my sister wasn’t able to make it, so there were only 6 of us there.  But, after every gift, everyone has look at it and talk about it!  This makes it last a lot longer!

Four Christmases - Christmas Morning New Blog Post Run and LIve Happy (11)

My mom got me some Bombas running socks!  I am really excited about these! I have been wanting some, and mentioned it to her.   I had forgotten all about them.  These came just in time for my marathon training!!

I got my grandpa a frame with a picture of me and him in it from Veteran’s Day.  He really liked it.  (I also gave him some gift cards to some of his favorite restaurants.)  We gave my grandma a calendar that I made with all of our family pictures in it.  I give her one every year and she absolutely loves it! (I noticed that the majority of our presents were wrapped in Brooks boxes! LOL)

I made my mom a mouse pad with pictures of her cats on it.  She loved it!

My grandparents got us this awesome Hickory Farms box!  I can’t wait to eat it on New Year’s Eve while we watch football!

After opening presents, we watched the OKC Thunder play and had snacks.  Nala wanted to visit Jeremy.  He hates cats, so she always has to sit by him!  I think she can sense it, and it’s hilarious!

nala

My mom always likes to have finger foods, but I am always so full after breakfast.  After opening presents, we had little smokies, cheese dip, tuna sandwiches, ham and cheese sliders, and a table full of sweets!

Four Christmases - Christmas Morning New Blog Post Run and LIve Happy (16)

I snacked on a few sausage balls and some of my grandma’s chocolate dessert.  I don’t know what the name of it is, but it is so good!  It has chocolate pudding, cream cheese, and whipped cream.  It’s amazing!

After sitting around and eating way too much and making myself miserable for most of the afternoon, we gathered up our stuff and headed home to pack for our next Christmas.

What was your Christmas morning like?

Four Christmases: Christmas Eve

Christmas is such a special time of the year and I love seeing family and spending time with them.  There is also so much food that only comes once a year.  So I really enjoy that too!  This year, we had four Christmases.  So it was a little bit of a whirlwind, but I enjoyed every second of it.  Since we did so much over Christmas, I am going to break it up in to a few posts, that way you aren’t still reading this post tomorrow!

You can read about our first Christmas here.  It was the Saturday before Christmas and it was with all of our extended family.

This post is all about Christmas Eve at our house!

Last Minute Shopping New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (10)

We always spend Christmas Eve with Jeremy’s dad and his Aunt S and Uncle B.  Since they were all coming over, I got up early that morning to clean the house and start dinner.  We have something different for Christmas Eve dinner every year.  This year we were having roast, so I had to get the crock pots going. (Yes I meant to say pots, plural!)  I always make beef roast, but Jeremy wanted to try a pork roast too.  So, we had both.  I cut up about 8 pounds of yellow potatoes and threw in some carrots, onions, and seasoning and was done!  That was probably the easiest dinner I have ever made!

For dessert, I baked a pumpkin pie and pecan pie, and I made a cherry cream cheese pie.  Plus, I had made some strawberry bread the day before.

Then he helped everyone else open theirs.

We got Jeremy’s dad a big picture to hang behind his couch and some shirts and jackets with their company name and logo on them.  He really liked them!

I got Jeremy a couple of Under Armour hoodies, a North Face t-shirt, a new compression shirt to wear when he referees, some binoculars, and some cologne.

Jeremy’s dad got me and his aunt this cute paint bucket full of Bath and Body Works products. It had soap, body wash, lotion, body cream, perfume, and a loofah in it.

We got Jeremy’s aunt and uncle Yeti cups.  And they got me one too!

My favorite gift this year was this pink Yeti cup!!  It’s exactly what I wanted! I can’t wait to take it to work and show it off!

Four Christmases - Christmas Eve New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (14)

Jeremy got me a camo backpack, so I can have my own when we go hunting.  I think he was tired of having to carry all of my stuff!  (That was kind of my plan all along!)  He also got me a new camo jacket, a Yeti cup, and a gift certificate to have my car detailed.  (Plus he bought my running shoes and insoles a couple of weeks ago.)  When I opened my pink Yeti, I “re-gifted” him back the one he gave me, so now we both have one!

Then we gave Jake his big Christmas present.  He got a huge bed or it could be a mini couch.  It’s humongous and he loves it!  He was so worn out from all the excitement, that he went right to sleep on it!

After we were finished opening presents, we had dessert.  I ate a bunch of the cherry cream cheese pie.  I haven’t had one of those in years.  My grandma used to make them all the time.

Everyone stayed and visited for a while and then they packed up all the left-over food and gifts and went to my father-in-law’s house.

Christmas Eve was fun, and I love hosting it at my house!

Two Christmases down, two more to go!

What did you do on Christmas Eve?

Week 4 Marathon Training

Week 2 (3)

Week 4 of marathon training is over!  This week was absolutely crazy!!  There was so much going on with Christmas, and it made it pretty much impossible to stick to my training schedule.  But, I did the best I could, and I am looking forward to everything slowing down so I can get back in a routine.

Here is what my week was supposed to look like:

Mon              Tues                      Wed                      Thurs                     Fri                           Sat                          Sun

Rest               3 mi                        4 mi                        3 mi                        Rest                       9 mi                        Cross

Here is what my week actually looked like:

Mon              Tues                      Wed                      Thurs                     Fri                           Sat                          Sun

5 mi              3 mi                        9 mi                        Rest                      Rest                     Rest                        Cross

Monday – 5 miles – I needed to make up the long run from last weekend since I was out of town on Saturday and sick on Sunday.

Tuesday – 3 miles – It took me a little while to warm up.  Actually, almost the entire run!  I hate running in the morning.  I am still asleep, and my body hurts.  I do so much better when I run later in the day.

Wednesday – 9 miles – This run was a huge deal for me!  I knew that I was going to be out of town this weekend as well, so I didn’t want to push this long run into next week.  I decided that since I didn’t have anything to do on Wednesday that I would go ahead and get it done.  The weather was perfect, and I had a really good run.  I did get chased by a Doberman.  I am really tired of people letting their dogs run free!  I didn’t have any pain the entire run, and I didn’t get tired!  I felt like I could have kept going, but it was getting dark and Jeremy was waiting on me to finish.  This run was really encouraging!  This is the longest distance that I have run since April, and to do it with no pain or trouble was exciting!  It wasn’t easy, but it definitely wasn’t hard.  It’s just motivation to keep going!  And I’m really excited that I didn’t have any pain in my legs.   I’m really hoping that I can keep it that way!  I went home and iced, massaged, and stretched both legs, and they were not sore at all on Thursday.

Thursday – Rest day – I had too much to do to get ready for Christmas at my house Thursday night. I did take Jake for a walk!

Friday – Rest day – it was Christmas! So, I rested. I really did plan on getting up and running before we went to my mom’s, but I didn’t get up early enough.  Then after lunch we hurried home and packed and headed out of town to visit some family.

Saturday – Rest day – We were out of town and there was no way I could run.

Sunday – Cross training – I did some strength training.

Even though I missed a couple of runs this week, I’m glad I got my long run in.   Hopefully next week everything will slow down and I can get back on a normal training schedule.

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. I’m also linking up with the other Weekly Wrap bloggers.

Were you able to get your runs in during Christmas?

Homemade Strawberry Bread

Homemade Strawberry Bread with a cream cheese filling. SO easy and delicious. Make this a holiday tradition. Great gift idea

One of my favorite foods during the holidays is my mom’s strawberry bread.  This is something that we have had during Christmastime for as long as I can remember.  I remember helping my mom fix loaves of this and giving it to my teachers as a gift.  This bread is so delicious, and there is a reason why we only have it once a year.  I’m sure it has a million calories in it, but I splurge when my mom makes it!  more “Homemade Strawberry Bread”

Christmas Lights – Photo Post

Last night Jeremy and I drove around town looking at Christmas lights.  I love lights, they are beautiful!!

This first display was all handmade by a man that I went to church with.  He started it when I was a kid, and my name is close to the top of Santa’s list!  He has added to it each year.  And again, it’s ALL handmade!!  Very impressive!

Then we went and looked at our Trail of Lights.

Last Minute Shopping!

I spent all day Monday doing some last minute shopping.  I always think I’m done, but then I remember “just one more” thing.  I do this a lot and I don’t know why because I make tons of lists!!

Monday was supposed to be a rest day from running, but since I missed this weekend’s long run, I decided to make it up.  When I got up, I ran 5 miles.  It was a really pretty morning, and there were a million squirrels playing in the road.

Well, maybe not a million, but a whole bunch of them!

I was doing really good until about half way in and my stomach started hurting again.  It made me start to think that maybe I was really sick after all.   I felt pretty nauseas, but I kept going.  I walked / jogged the last half of my run, but I powered through and got it done!

After I was done, I went home and laid in the floor until my stomach settled.  I felt fine after that!  Then I got up to do some work on the computer, and this is what I found.

It really kind of creeped me out, I started thinking I had been hacked.  The screen stayed like that for several minutes before it finally let me on my desktop.

When I finally got around, I met Jeremy in town to run some last minute errands.  This turned into an all-day event.  We went shopping for his dad.  He was the only person that we hadn’t bought for yet.  While we were out shopping, we decided to try the new food truck that we have in town.

They were really busy, so I took that as a good sign.  The food was phenomenal!  I had the beef street tacos.  They came with seasoned beef, onion, cilantro, shredded cheese, and an avocado Verde sauce.  They were so good!  I am really excited about this place now!  I’m going to try the chicken street tacos next time.

After shopping for a while and striking out everywhere we went, we decided that we would go see a friend of mine and have her print some t-shirts and jackets for Jeremy’s dad with their business logo on it.  I think he will love it!

Then I had to go exchange some jeans at Rue 21 and Maurices.  I don’t know what the deal was, I tried them on in the store, but once I got them home and put them on, they were way too big.  After that I ran to Wal-Mart to get everything that we will need for Christmas Eve dinner.  I had a snack too!

Then I came home and sat with Jake.  He went and got a bath yesterday, and we noticed when we picked him up that he was limping a little.

He got a Christmas bandana!

I don’t know if she trimmed his nails to short, or if jumping out of the truck hurt his legs, but I was worried.  When we picked him up, he wouldn’t even jump up in the truck.  Jeremy had to put him in there and get him out.  I don’t know what it was, but when we brought him home, he slept all day and night.  He didn’t want to get up, and he barely ate anything.  I was really worried.  But, he is doing much better today!

I felt like I was on the go all day Monday!  I finally sat down late Monday night, and we watched Elf again!  I love that movie!  I think I fell asleep before 10.

I woke up around 8 this morning.  I was surprised because Jake hadn’t woken me up yet.  I got up and let him out, and then got dressed to run.  The road was empty and it was awesome to run on!

I ran 3 miles and it was a little chilly!  The horses were still asleep.

But the guineas were not!

I really don’t live way out in the country, it just looks like it.

After running, I iced my leg.  It started bothering me a little during my run.  But, after icing it, it didn’t hurt at all.  I had to go run a few more errands.  My mom had texted me Monday night about what I needed to bring to Christmas, so that meant another trip to Wal-Mart!

I actually went over to my mom’s first to return her ugly Christmas sweater that I borrowed.

Last Minute Shopping New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (15)

I visited with her and my dad for a little while and then I headed to Wal-Mart.  I was in and out of there in 15 minutes!  The check outs weren’t busy at all, it was just all of the people with their baskets parked in the middle of the aisles that slowed me down!

On my way home, my grandma called and wanted me to meet her at a store in town.  So, I turned around and headed back up there.  I spent an hour shopping with her.  She wanted to buy me something else for Christmas, and I kept trying to tell her that she didn’t need to.  But she kept insisting, so I picked out a pair of house shoes and some measuring spoons.  (A couple of mine had an unfortunate meeting with my disposal!)  This store has a senior citizen discount on Tuesdays.  They get 20% off, so I used her discount and bought Jeremy some cologne that he has been wanting.   I’ll stuff it in his stocking later!  (Hopefully he won’t read this before Thursday night!)

Then, I went to get my hair trimmed and I finally broke down and got some bangs cut.  I have been thinking about this since before Halloween and I just couldn’t make up my mind.  My best friend kept reminding me how much I have hated them before.  But my hair has been the exact same for years and I was kind of tired of it.  So, I decided to change it up a bit with some side bangs.  They are kind of long, but if I like them, I may go have them cut shorter.

After that, I came home and took Jake for a walk.  The weather had warmed up and it was 70 degrees!

We walked for a long time while Jeremy vacuumed and cleaned out our vehicles.

I also started a new book today.  It is called See How They Run.  It’s the second book in the Embassy Row series by Ally Carter.  I read the first book, All Fall Down last year and had to wait a whole year for this new one to come out.  I hate that!!  But it was really good, so I bought the new one today.

The series is about a girl name Grace who has moved to an Embassy Row in another country to live with her Ambassador grandfather.  Her mother was killed and Grace starts remembering details about her death, but no one believes her.  They all think she is crazy.  So she works to find out what happened.  It’s a good really good story line with a lot of suspense and mystery.

I am planning on cleaning, baking, and running tomorrow.  I am supposed to run 9 miles this weekend, but we will not be home and there is no way I will be able to get that in.  So, I am thinking about running it tomorrow.  We’ll just see how my day goes.  If I don’t get it in, I will have to do it next Monday or Tuesday.  Or, this may have to be a week that I redo after Christmas!  I’m just going to have to play it by ear!

Jeremy and I are going on a date tonight!  We’re going to dinner and then to look at Christmas lights!  I’ll take lots of pictures and post them tomorrow!

Are you ready for Christmas?
