Final Pile on the Miles Check In

Hello Everyone!  Did you have a good Thanksgiving?  Did you get your miles in?  I tried, but the weather is not cooperating!

Pile on the Miles

This was the last week of the Pile on the Miles Challenge.  My goal this week was to walk or run for 30 minutes at least 5 days this week.  If I count all the walking I did yesterday at the OU / OSU game, I met my goal!  Here’s a brief recap of what I did this week.

Monday – I took a rest day from running because I had so much stuff I needed to get done before Thanksgiving.  I did take Jake for a 2 mile run/walk.  We ran the trails in our pasture.  He ran for a mile with me, and then we walked for a mile.

Tuesday – I ran 3 miles.  It was really cold and the wind was blowing really hard.  Once my body adjusted to the cold, I had a really good run!  I ran into some guineas that were friendly; they didn’t run from me.

Wednesday – I just went for a 2 mile walk on Wednesday.   I woke up with a headache, sore throat, and I was having trouble breathing so I didn’t want to run and make it worse.  I was planning on walking at least 3 miles, but it started misting really heavily, so I went home to get out of the wet weather.  I drank a ton of water and doubled up on my vitamin C, so Thursday I felt much better!

Thursday – I got up early to get everything ready for all of our company.  Once I was finished with all the last minute prep, I went for a 3 mile run in the rain!  It wasn’t raining when I started, but it started coming down pretty hard halfway through.  But, I have always wanted to run in the rain, and it was really fun!  Plus, I was proud of myself for running on Thanksgiving.  I could have easily found lots of excuses to stay home.

Friday – It was raining and sleeting all day, so I didn’t get to run.  I keep telling Jeremy that I need a treadmill!  I do some strength training and an ab workout.

Saturday – It was still raining hard when we got up.  We left early to go to College Game Day, so I got a TON of walking in.

Sunday – It is still raining/icy/wintry mix so I am inside trying to stay warm.  I did do some strength training and an ab workout.

Even though the Pile on the Miles Challenge has ended, I am still going to challenge myself to meet my goal each week.  I also am thinking hard about starting training for a marathon.  I found a plan that I like, and it has me running 4 days a week with long runs on Saturdays.  It is the Hal Higdon Marathon Training Novice 1 program.  I really think this is doable, if my leg and foot will allow me.  I got new shoes and insoles yesterday, so hopefully that will help!

Make sure to check out my weekend recap post tomorrow when I tell all about College Game Day!

Hello from the link-up! Congrats on meeting your challenge and being motivated to keep at it! I love running in the cold, but it’s been warm here in Pittsburgh, which is very odd for us because it’s usually cold. I used to not like running in the rain, but now I wear a hat and don’t even really notice it’s raining. Have a great week!

It’s a lot tougher to get the miles in this time of year! And I’d take snow over cold rain…

It is so hard to get miles in right now. And I think I’m with you on the snow!

I think using a Hal Higdon plan is an excellent idea. I’ve used a few of his in the past. Getting outside for a 100+ minute bike ride Thanksgiving morning sure did help me get through the day. I love your orange top, btw. Kudos to running in the rain too. I don’t mind it, as long as it’s not lightning. I’ll be interested in hearing how you like your new shoes and insoles. I want my foot to be better already! I appreciate you linking up with us!

Thanks! I’m excited to start it and just see how my body holds us. I’m really hoping the new shoes and insoles work. I got super feet insoles. I’ll let you know how they work.

I am impressed that you were running outside in the cool weather. I traveled to cold weather over the weekend and nope … no way…no how … not gonna do it.

Hey nice to meet you! I saw you commenting at Monica’s blog and wanted to say hi. I am in Oklahoma too! That photo of guinea fowl on the road looks so familiar, haha
Always nice to meet another runner, especially from our beautiful state. Also— three cheers fro Brooks Ravenna!

Congrats on getting your miles in for the week! I love Hal Higdon’s marathon training plans. I’ve used the Novice 2 plan for my first marathon and my 2nd coming up this Saturday. His plans are very doable with a busy schedule and I love the gradual build in mileage.

Ha I noticed the guinea’s right off! I have about ummm 30 or so adults and more young birds. I love watching them, They are usually very skittish but I’ve noticed my young ones I can touch them sometimes without them freaking out. I loosely used Hal Higdon’s training plan for my base of long runs. I am currently running only 3 days a week total. My marathon is 5 weeks away and I’ve got one more 20 miler to do! I’m so glad you are linking up with us too!
