College Game Day – OU vs OSU

I had an awesome weekend!!  Jeremy and I got to go to College Game Day at Oklahoma State University!  They were playing (my team) OU.

Jeremy’s aunt and uncle have season tickets at OSU, and since they were in New York with our cousin, they gave us their tickets!  I have never been to a bedlam game at OSU before.  I went a couple of times in college and just hung out at Eskimo Joes, but I had never watched the game in the stadium.  So, we were really excited when the tickets came in the mail!

We spent Friday night getting all of our cold weather gear out because the game was at 7:00 pm and the temperature was supposed to be 31 degrees and raining or snowing.  We wanted to make sure we were warm so we could enjoy the game!

Saturday morning we got up really early and left because it was raining hard and the news said that the roads were icy.  So, we were going to drive slow.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (12)

And, we were making a little bit of a detour because I really needed new running shoes.  I buy my shoes at Red Coyote Running in Edmond, and that is about an hour and 45 minutes away from my house, so I don’t have many chances to get up there.  I would have just ordered my shoes, but since I’ve been having so much pain in my leg and foot, I wanted to be fitted again to make sure I was in the right shoe.  I also wanted to talk to them about insoles.

When we left, it was pouring down rain, but we didn’t have any ice.  The farther away from home we got, the more ice we started seeing on the sides of the roads and the trees.  Once we got to Edmond, there ice covering everything!  We even saw a power line down across the middle of a road.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (10)

We got to Red Coyote around 10:30, and we were lucky because there wasn’t anyone else in there!  I got to spend the whole time talking to the saleswoman, with her attention all on me.  The last time I went to buy shoes, they were so busy, that I had to wait for 45 minutes to even have someone help me, and then she was helping me and three others at the same time.  So, this was nice to actually be able to explain to her exactly what kind of pain I have been having, so she could fit me in the best shoe and insoles.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (15)

She was so helpful and attentive, I got the best service!  I tried on four different pairs of shoes, and two different insoles.  The first pair were Nikes, and as soon as I stood up, the insoles hurt my foot so badly that I immediately had to take them off.  So, she put a different one in there, and it was so comfortable that I couldn’t even tell it was there.  I ran on the treadmill with the Nikes.  They were really lightweight, but I just didn’t feel like I had a lot of support.  Next I tried some New Balance shoes and I really liked them.  They felt really light, and almost bouncy when I landed.  They were comfortable too.  Then, I tried on some Saucony’s.  I did not like these at all.  As soon as I started running, I got sharp pains in my foot.  Finally, I tried on some Brooks.  These are my absolute favorite brand of running shoes.  They are all I have ever worn, so I know they will be good.  Of course as soon as I put them on, I loved the way they felt.  They are so supportive and comfortable, that I don’t even feel them.  Hopefully that makes sense.  I knew I loved these, but I wanted to make sure.  So I put on one Brooks and one New Balance and ran.  I could tell a huge difference!  The New Balance shoe felt light in my hand, but when I had it on with the Brooks, I felt like I was lifting a weight every time I picked my foot up.

So, of course I went with the Brooks.  I got the Ravenna 7.  And, I got some new insoles.  I am itching to try them out, but yesterday it was still raining and gross, so today or tomorrow I may go over to my moms and try them on her treadmill.  I get really excited about new running shoes!  That is the best!  But, what’s even better than that is when your husband offers to buy them for you!  He was a little shocked at the price though!

college game day new blog post run and live happy (16)

When we left Red Coyote, we stopped by the new Cabelas in Oklahoma City.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (6)

Everything was covered in ice there.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (18)

The store was really nice.  It was packed with people, and they had so much merchandise crammed in there that it was hard to get around.  They had all of their Christmas stuff out, and a beautiful tree up.   I am definitely in the Christmas mood!  (Now if I can just get my shopping done!)

college game day new blog post run and live happy (7)

Jeremy found something that he wanted for Christmas, and I found a toy that I wanted to get Jake.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (9)

I loved looking at all the animals!  I can’t even begin to imagine what a taxidermist made doing all of these!

college game day new blog post run and live happy (4)

We walked around looking at everything for a little bit before getting back on the road.  I like Cabelas, but you can find the same things at Academy for much less!

We left there and headed to Stillwater for GAME DAY!! It rained and sleeted on us the entire day, but right before the game it stopped!

Heading to College Game Day
Heading to College Game Day

We got to Stillwater around 2, and ran to Academy because Jeremy didn’t think I was going to be warm enough.   He bought me some new insulated coveralls to wear over all of my layers of clothes.

We stopped at a McDonald’s so Jeremy could run in and put on all of his layers of clothes, and I just got dressed in the car.  Then, we went to find parking.  All of the lots we drove by said $40 or $50 for parking.  We got lucky because we saw this couple standing outside of their apartment complex with signs that said $30.  We pulled in, and they moved their car and gave us their hanging permit tag.  We were only a block away from Eskimo Joe’s and from the stadium!

We headed down to Eskimo Joe’s to try and get something to eat before the game.  It was so much fun seeing all of the people tailgating up and down both sides of the road.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (8)

It was all OSU fans, but I wore my OU colors proudly!!  We were just about to walk in Eskimo Joe’s when we heard the Boomer Sooner song being blasted down the street.  We went to the curb to look, and there was a Range Rover with huge speakers driving down the road playing the OU’s fight song!  It was hilarious!  I’m surprised no one threw anything at that guy.

We went in to Eskimo Joes, but it was standing room only, so we knew we would not be able to get a table.  Everyone was already camped out to watch the game in there.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (19)

So, we headed across the street to The Garage.  It is a burger joint, and it is really good.  We ate at the one in Norman and loved it!  There was a line out the door, but it seemed to be moving pretty quickly, so we waited.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (21)

While we were in line, we got to talking to the three people in front of us.  We waited in line with these people for about 30 minutes and then once we ordered, they asked if we wanted to sit with them.  Of course we said yes, and we had a lot of fun talking to them.  The restaurant was full, but it looked like it was mainly people hanging out at the bar.  We were able to get a table as soon as we ordered.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (22)

Our food came out pretty quickly, and it was so good!  I forgot to take a picture of the whole burger, but you get to see what I didn’t eat!

college game day new blog post run and live happy (23)

I ordered just a plain cheeseburger.  They had a game day menu, and all they had were burgers.  Their regular menu is huge, and has all kinds of things to choose from.  They even have turkey burgers and bison burgers.  I don’t eat a lot of burgers, so when I’m going to splurge and eat one, I want it to be good.  This one did not disappoint, it was awesome!  The meat was fresh and flavored just right.  The bun was good, but it wasn’t what we all thought they normally had.  We decided it must have been a game day bun.  The fries were hand cut, and were good.  They didn’t have a lot of seasoning on them though.  One of the guys ordered the garlic parmesan fries and he said they were really good.  We hung out with them for a couple of hours before heading back to the car to put on the rest of our clothes for the game.  When we got back to the car, it was not raining anymore, but it was cold.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (11)

I put on a base layer top and bottom, then my cold weather gear running tights and top, then my jeans and a OU hoodie.  Over that, I wore my new insulated coveralls.  Then I put on my insulated camo hunting coat, and over that I wore a Columbia coat.  Then I put on 3 pairs of socks and my insulated hunting boots.  I also had on two toboggans, a scarf, and ski gloves.  I felt like a giant ball, and could hardly move, but I was warm!

college game day new blog post run and live happy (26)

We walked over to the stadium and had to wait in line for about 5 minutes to get in.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (27)

They wanted us to take our hats off and unzip our coats.  I asked him which coat.  LOL  Then, we ran into these guys on our way to our seats.  I had to have a picture!  (I look like I have chipmunk cheeks because of the hat and scarf!)

college game day new blog post run and live happy (28)

The stadium is really nice!  I hadn’t been there since I was in high school.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (30)

We went in and found our seats, and they were awesome!  We were on the 35 yard line, 14 rows up, and on the aisle.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (39)

We could see everything clearly!  We had great seats!  We got to our seats about 45 minutes before kickoff.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (33)

There was a little bit of a wind break inside the stadium, so it didn’t seem as cold.  I really enjoyed all of the pregame activities.  It was senior night, so they recognized all of the seniors and their parents.  Then they brought out Bullet (the horse).

college game day new blog post run and live happy (36)

The way they introduced the players was exciting!  There was so much smoke, and we could watch them leaving their locker room on the big screen, and then they all came running out on the field.  It was cool!

college game day new blog post run and live happy (38)

The stadium filled up, and the game began!  I was surrounded by OSU fans, my own husband even wore an orange hat!  (His was a hunting hat, but it was still orange!)  There were very few OU fans around me.

Surrounded by orange

Some of the OSU fans gave me a hard time, but in the end, they were telling me congratulations!  I tried not to celebrate too much since I was still outnumbered!  Actually, everyone around us was really nice and friendly.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (32)

We stood up the entire game, and I think it helped me stay warm.  The halftime show was great!  The bands were both really good.  OU’s band played Maroon 5 songs, and OSU’s band played Back to the Future songs.  Both bands had a twirler.  I was really impressed with both of them.  I don’t know how they held on to those batons in the cold.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (5)

Then, after the bands were done, they brought out a little boy and his mom on the field.  They told him he won a prize from Pistol Pete and he got to take his picture with him.  Then, they brought out his dad who had just returned from Afghanistan to surprise him.  He was so excited.  He ran to him and just clung to him!  I’m glad we got to be there to see that.  Everyone in the stadium was standing and cheering for them!  It was such a moving experience.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (37)

After half time, I finally started getting cold.  Jeremy covered with me a blanket, and then only my feet were cold.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (41)

Sometime during the second half, something began to fall.  I thought it was snow at first, but then it just became a heavy mist.  Our outer layer of clothes was soaked by the time the game was over.

college game day new blog post run and live happy (2)

We stayed until the very end.  We had so much fun at the game!  The stadium was loud and the crowd was very energetic!  And, my team won!!  Go OU!!  I can’t wait to go again!

college game day new blog post run and live happy (1)

When the game was over, we headed back to the car.  We took off all of our wet clothes and threw them in the trunk and headed home.  It rained on us most of the way home.  We got lucky since the rain stopped for the game!  We got home around 1:30, and went straight to bed.  We slept until noon on Sunday!

It was still raining on Sunday, so I stayed in and did some work on the computer.  I also did some online Christmas shopping.  I am having a hard time finding gifts for my family, because no one will tell me what they want! But, I did get a few bought!

Pile on the MIles Final Check in Run and Live Happy

I had such a good weekend, and I was not ready for it to be over!

What did you do this weekend?

Final Pile on the Miles Check In

Hello Everyone!  Did you have a good Thanksgiving?  Did you get your miles in?  I tried, but the weather is not cooperating!

Pile on the Miles

This was the last week of the Pile on the Miles Challenge.  My goal this week was to walk or run for 30 minutes at least 5 days this week.  If I count all the walking I did yesterday at the OU / OSU game, I met my goal!  Here’s a brief recap of what I did this week.

Monday – I took a rest day from running because I had so much stuff I needed to get done before Thanksgiving.  I did take Jake for a 2 mile run/walk.  We ran the trails in our pasture.  He ran for a mile with me, and then we walked for a mile.

Pile on the MIles Final Check in Run and Live Happy

Tuesday – I ran 3 miles.  It was really cold and the wind was blowing really hard.  Once my body adjusted to the cold, I had a really good run!  I ran into some guineas that were friendly; they didn’t run from me.

Pile on the MIles Final Check in Run and Live Happy

Wednesday – I just went for a 2 mile walk on Wednesday.   I woke up with a headache, sore throat, and I was having trouble breathing so I didn’t want to run and make it worse.  I was planning on walking at least 3 miles, but it started misting really heavily, so I went home to get out of the wet weather.  I drank a ton of water and doubled up on my vitamin C, so Thursday I felt much better!

Thursday – I got up early to get everything ready for all of our company.  Once I was finished with all the last minute prep, I went for a 3 mile run in the rain!  It wasn’t raining when I started, but it started coming down pretty hard halfway through.  But, I have always wanted to run in the rain, and it was really fun!  Plus, I was proud of myself for running on Thanksgiving.  I could have easily found lots of excuses to stay home.

Pile on the MIles Final Check in Run and Live Happy

Friday – It was raining and sleeting all day, so I didn’t get to run.  I keep telling Jeremy that I need a treadmill!  I do some strength training and an ab workout.

Saturday – It was still raining hard when we got up.  We left early to go to College Game Day, so I got a TON of walking in.

Sunday – It is still raining/icy/wintry mix so I am inside trying to stay warm.  I did do some strength training and an ab workout.

Pile on the MIles Final Check in Run and Live Happy

Even though the Pile on the Miles Challenge has ended, I am still going to challenge myself to meet my goal each week.  I also am thinking hard about starting training for a marathon.  I found a plan that I like, and it has me running 4 days a week with long runs on Saturdays.  It is the Hal Higdon Marathon Training Novice 1 program.  I really think this is doable, if my leg and foot will allow me.  I got new shoes and insoles yesterday, so hopefully that will help!

Make sure to check out my weekend recap post tomorrow when I tell all about College Game Day!

For this weekly update I’m linking up with Holly of HoHo Runs and Tricia of MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. I’m also linking up with the other Weekly Wrap bloggers.

Thanksgiving Day – Family and Food!

Yesterday was a really special day!  It was full of family, food, and fun.  I had all of my family at my house, and we had a feast!

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (15)

My day started early.  I woke up at 7 am to set out the hot rolls so they could rise.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (19)

I debated on going back to bed, but instead finished all the last minute cleaning – mopping the floors, setting the tables, things like that.  We had to set up a table in the living room so we would have enough room for everyone.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (13)

After doing all of that, I sat down for a minute and thought about going for a run.  I knew it was supposed to rain later in the day and once I ate I probably wouldn’t want to go.  I sat there for probably 10 minutes watching out the window deciding if I wanted to go or not.  I was feeling better than I did on Wednesday, and I wasn’t wheezing as bad, so I put on my shoes and out the door I went.  It was surprisingly warm, but it was wet.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (12)

Nothing was falling when I started, but about halfway in, it started raining.  I kept going, and got soaked! But, that was okay, because I have always wanted to run in the rain and it was fun.  I got in 3 miles in the rain!

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (16)

After my run, I cleaned up and turned on the parade.  My cousin’s group wasn’t on until the very end, but I watched the whole thing.  I wanted to see if I could see any of our family in the crowd.  Around 11, I started cooking the hot rolls and ham.  Everyone started showing up around 11:45.  My parents, Jeremy’s dad, my grandparents, and my sister and her boyfriend came.  We also had my aunt, uncle, and my cousins from Texas.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (14)

Once everyone arrived, my mom and aunt helped me finish up everything in the kitchen, and we finally got to eat!

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (22)

I was starving by the time we ate.  I didn’t eat anything before or after my run because I knew I would have a huge meal.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (7)

We had sooooo much food!

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (10)

My aunt brought a honey ham, and we had a smoked ham.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (23)

She also brought brussels sprouts.  My mom brought sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, and some dessert.  And, my grandma brought turkey, dressing, and cranberry sauce.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (24)

Even though we had so much food, I didn’t overeat.  I was not miserable when I got done.  I was really tired and wanted to take a nap!  I tried a little bit of most of the food.  My favorite was and always is the sweet potato casserole!  My mom makes it every year and I love it!  I also love the hot rolls.  I could seriously eat a dozen of them, but I didn’t.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (20)

I ate some honey ham and some turkey.  I had corn casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, and a hot roll.  I think I could have eaten another plate full, but I tried to have some self control!

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (1)

And then we had dessert.  Oh my, it was so good!  My mom brought mini cheesecakes.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (4)

We also had pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cherry pie, peach pie, and a cranberry fruit salad.  I had a bite of each of the pies, seriously, just one bite!  I didn’t try the cheesecakes, but my mom left us some.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (3)

My grandpa liked the cherry pie!  He got really excited when I told him I made him one!  (He also tried my pecan pie.)

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (5)

Then, I sent all the food with everyone else so we all we have left is ham.  I just wanted to have one cheat meal, and not have a bunch of it left to eat on for the next few days.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (8)

After lunch, we cleaned it all up and sat around for hours just visiting and watching football.  We have a hard time getting everyone together, so it was nice to be able to spend a few hours together with no distractions.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (21)

As I sat there, I started getting sleepy!  After everyone left, I just wanted to take a nap.  But, we had to put up all the tables and chairs.  We also had to run over to my grandmas because I forgot to give my aunt some pecans.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (17)

We sat over there for a couple more hours visiting with them.  My aunt and uncle only get to come to town a few times a year, so I really enjoy when they are here. When we left my grandmas, the rain had finally started!  It has poured and thundered all night, and it is still raining.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (9)

It’s supposed to rain for the next 4 days.  I have seriously got to look into getting a treadmill!

I had a really good Thanksgiving.  I loved having everyone at my house, and seeing everyone together.  I am so thankful to have my family all here this year.  I saw a commercial during the parade that said instead of saying what you are thankful for, say who you are thankful for.  So, I am thankful for my family.  Each and every one of them.

Thanksgiving Recap Run and Live Happy (11)

What or who are you thankful for this year?

Pre Thanksgiving Madness – Mid Week Recap

I have had an extremely busy week, as I’m sure most of you have too! I feel like I have been running around like a crazy person!

Monday morning, I was not very hungry for a long time.  I think around 10, I finally ate a Bear Naked bar.  Then, for lunch I made a salad.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (4)

It was a Dole sunflower chopped salad, and I added grilled chicken to it.  It looked really good, but I had a couple of bites, and it just didn’t taste very good and I didn’t have much of an appetite.  So I didn’t eat it.  Later that afternoon I had another Bear Naked bar and some turkey snack sticks.  I had planned on running, but instead I took a rest day.  Not necessarily because I needed it, but because I had so much stuff to get done before Thanksgiving.  I had to make a last minute mad dash to Wal-mart.  That place was absolutely crazy!  There were people everywhere, and it makes it so much worse when you’re in a hurry.  I only needed a couple of things, but I ended up being in there for half an hour.  When I got home, I took Jake for a run/walk.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (5)

We ran the trails in our pasture.  They are just trails that the horse has made, but they work!  He ran a mile with me, and then we walked for a mile.  We have to go around and around the pasture, but he loves it!  At least in there, he can be off of his leash and run as much as he wants to.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (2)

Once we got back from his walk, I got busy doing things around the house.  I started picking up everything and getting ready to clean.  One of my friends told me that she hired a house cleaner to come this week.  Jeremy offered but I said no.  Now, I’m wishing I would have taken him up on that!  Then I baked a cherry pie.  My grandpa and I love cherry pie.  I always bake him one for Thanksgiving.

After that, I had to get all of Jeremy’s refereeing clothes ready for Tuesday night.  And then, I spent forever cleaning up my room.  (It’s our guest bedroom, but it’s where I get ready.)  I had clothes strewn all over the bed, shoes thrown all around the room, jewelry lying all over the dresser, and makeup scattered everywhere!   Plus, Jake had drug out all of his toys and they were all over the floor.  I don’t know how it got so bad because I am very OCD about keeping things picked up.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (21)

After all of that, I stayed up until 11:30 so I could watch Adele on Jimmy Fallon.  She is really funny!

Tuesday I had my normal green tea and yogurt for breakfast.  Then I had some chicken strips for lunch.  I went to a bird show at our local university.  The show was put on by the Sutton Center.  They are a conservation organization from Oklahoma and they work with OU to find conservation solutions for birds.  They had a lot of birds and owls, but the Bald Eagle was my favorite!  I wanted to hold it really bad!

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (1)

Later in the afternoon I got in a 3 mile run.  It was chilly!

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (9)

My weather app said that it was 60, but I don’t believe it!  Plus, the wind was blowing 22mph, and it was cold!

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (10)

But I like running in the cold weather once I adjust.  I had a good run.  I felt really good, and was pretty much pain free.   I did start having a dull pain in my foot during the last mile, so I slowed way down and just jogged it.  I ran up and down a little side road.  I went up and down it probably 3 or 4 times and then on my way back down, I ran into these little guys.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (11)

I thought they were turkeys at first, until I got closer.  LOL

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (20)

They didn’t even run from me!

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (3)

And then there was the swarm of the birds.  There were literally hundreds of them, and every time I would run under these trees, they would all fly to another one.  I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture of them all flying away, but I got a few.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (12)

After my run, I went home and got busy!  I did not sit down until I went to bed around 11:30. I had to run back to Wal-mart to pick up some cleaning supplies and dog food.  (I have not been very organized for this holiday!)  I also grabbed the ingredients for corn casserole.  Monica at RunEatRepeat posted it this week.  This is one of my favorite dishes, and I can’t remember the last time I had it, so I decided to make it too.  You can find her recipe here.  When I got home I started my house cleaning frenzy!  The first thing I did was wipe all of my cabinets and furniture with Liquid Gold.  It just makes them look new and shiny.

Then I started baking pies while I cleaned the rest of the house.  I made good use of a lot of those pecans I picked up!  First I baked two pecan pies.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (13)

Then I baked two pumpkin pies.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (14)

When Jeremy got home from his basketball game, he wanted me to fix him a frozen pizza.  I realized then (at 10:30) that I had not eaten anything.  So, I fixed him a pizza and had a piece of it.  I was exhausted by the time I went to bed.

I woke up this morning with a sore throat, headache, and was having trouble breathing.  I immediately did a breathing treatment and started some medicine.  I don’t worry so much when it’s just a cold, but when it’s in my chest it quickly turns into a respiratory infection and I can’t get rid of it.  Seriously, it will last for months!  I was just thinking yesterday that I hadn’t been sick in a while!  I guess I jinxed myself.  Since I wasn’t feeling so well, I just went for a two mile walk.  I didn’t want to try to run and make it worse.  Plus, it was misting really heavily, and I didn’t want to be out in that for too long.

Once I came in, I threw the corn casserole together and put it in the oven while I showered.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (16)

Jeremy came home from hunting with a surprise for me!  He got my deer back that I shot last year!!

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (15)

This was my first buck, and I have been really upset about it because the taxidermist promised us it would be ready in June (we even paid extra to have it rushed), and after June we have not been able to get a hold of him.  He won’t answer the door to his shop or his phone.  I was really afraid that I wasn’t going to see it again.  But, here it is!!

Jake wasn’t so sure of it.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (19)

Then, Jeremy and I ran to town to pay a bill.  He had to go to the ER back in September.  We got a bill for an insane amount of money, and it showed that his insurance had only paid $200 of it!  When I called the insurance company, they told me what they had been billed, and it was $700 less than the total amount of the bill that we received.  This made no sense to me!  So, when we went today to pay it, I asked about that, and the cashier said that they had not billed his insurance yet, that they had given him a $200 discount because he was put in the computer as “self pay”.  So, that was good news!  Hopefully now his insurance will pay some of that ridiculous bill.

After that, we came back home and I baked the green bean casserole.

Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (17)

Jake figured out that he likes green beans now.  He sat at the counter and whined until I gave him half the can one.
Pre Thanksgiving Madness - Mid Week Recap Run and Live Happy (18)

Now all I have to cook tomorrow is hot rolls and ham.

This afternoon I started feeling a little nauseous, so when Jeremy went hunting, I laid down to take a nap.  I felt a little better when I woke up.  I really hope I am not getting sick!  I am so excited for Thanksgiving tomorrow. And, I’m really excited to watch my cousin on TV in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!  Her group is the Spirit of American Dance Team, they will be after Mariah Carey and right before Santa.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

What are you thankful for this year?

Confession Time

Ok, I have a confession to make. It really kills me to say it, but it’s the truth. So here it is: I am just not
into running right now.

giphy (2) giphy (3)

I can’t believe I’m actually saying that! For me, coming back after being injured is harder than just starting out. I am unmotivated, and I am also extremely worried about being re-injured if I do too much. I have to force myself out the door. Once I’m out the door, I usually do fine, but it’s just getting out the door! The Pile on the Miles challenge has helped to get me out the door. I did have days where it hurt and I just walked, and days that it hurt so bad that I took a rest day.

Rifle Season is Here

Used to I would schedule everything around my run, and I was excited to do it. And, I would get annoyed if I wasn’t going to have much time to fit one in. But now, I dread it! If I’m short on time, instead of running faster, I cut it short, or just don’t do it. I don’t know if it’s because I’m just too much in my head and I have made it all mental, or if it’s because I have no end goal. I am really getting frustrated with myself because I want to be able to run the amount of miles that I was before I was hurt. (I know I have to work up to that, and the only way to do it is to run more.)

I think I really want to start training for something – anything. I just need a goal to work towards that will help me get back in the right frame of mind. The only thing that is holding me back is that I know I’m not 100% yet, and I don’t want to set a goal and start training for it and then get hurt again and not be able to do it.

Monster Dash Racing Recap New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (2)

I have been thinking the last week a lot about this, and I know the goal I’m choosing is probably the craziest one that I could set. But, I am really thinking about starting training for a full marathon. Part of me is saying this is absolutely crazy because I know my body is not fully healed. I’m almost laughing at myself thinking why not set a goal of a 10K. But the other part of me is saying why not? I want to do it, so just do it!

giphy

The doctor has cleared me to run, and maybe if I just take it easy and make sure to stretch, ice, and foam roll I will be ok. Maybe if I just listen to my body and if or when it starts hurting, then I will stop. I have 21 weeks (152 days) until the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. I ran the half marathon this year, and I really want to do the full. I have been looking at marathon training plans, and I have found a few that I am considering. I just think this would be better for me than all of the junk miles I am running. I know they don’t mean anything, so maybe that’s why I’m not very motivated to do them. What are your thoughts on these training plans? Which one would recommend?

Training Plan 1 - Run and Live Happy Training Plan 2 - Run and Live Happy

I am determined to get back to where I was, and pass it! I have a friend that is training for the same race, and she is on my case about doing it with her. (Which is what I need) So, I think this is going to be a good thing. I really think the only thing holding me back is the fear of failure. But I guess that is a risk with any goal that you set. So, I just have to tell myself if I get hurt and don’t get to run it, at least I tried.

Rifle Season Is Here – Weekend Recap!

Happy Monday!  How was your weekend?  Did you do anything exciting?  I did!  I hunted all weekend, and I think it’s exciting!

When I got up Saturday morning (at 4:45), I had every intention of going hunting with Jeremy. It was opening day of rifle season and I was excited! But, when I started getting ready, I was so sleepy because we had stayed up till midnight, I decided to go back to bed! It was really windy so I didn’t think the deer would be moving anyways. So I slept for a few more hours and then went for a run. It turned out to be more of a walk and some jogging, because I was so tired, but I did it! The wind was blowing hard and it was cold!

Rifle Season is Here
After that I ran to town to pick up a few things for Jeremy and some vitamins for Jake.

He's shaking so he can have one!

I have been kinda down all week. I’ve had a lot going on and it has really been weighing on me this week. So, I treated myself to some retail therapy! And it helped!! I found this cute dress on the clearance rack for $5!

I also bought a new shirt and vest.

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (13)
And, I got this shirt. I’m not sure about this one yet, so it may end up going back. I like it, but I’m not sure how much I would wear it.

When I got back home, I worked on sorting pecans till Jeremy got back. I finally finished the last bag!

Then we ate a sandwich for lunch and got ready to go back to the woods.

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (19)

A cold front came through Friday night so we had to bundle up! I had on 3 layers of clothes. I feel like a giant marshmallow and can’t move when I have on that many clothes, but they kept me warm.

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (20)
We saw a lot of does and a gigantic buck! But, the buck never came in close enough for Jeremy, and I only took my bow and never had a good shot. We left after dark and the full moon was beautiful!

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (22)

We went home and watched the OU and OSU games. I also did a little Christmas shopping online and bought my first present! I fixed us some frozen hot wings that we found at Aldi.  They were huge, and I forgot to take a picture of them.  They probably would have been good, but I accidentally cooked them to long (the smoke alarm went off LOL), so they were extra crunchy! They didn’t burn, so we did eat them.
When the alarm rang Sunday morning at 4:45 I debated sleeping in. But, I knew the weather was going to be perfect! It was supposed to be cold, clear, and no wind. So I went. It was freezing, literally!!

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (3)

The ground was covered in frost and I could see my breath. If it wasn’t for my Big Buddy heater, I would have been miserable! It kept me pretty warm until we ran out of propane!

We were really surprised because we only saw a few does.  When we were ready to leave, the 4 wheeler would not start. Jeremy tried and tried to start it, but it just wouldn’t. So we pushed it out of the trees and I walked all the way back to get the truck. It was probably about a mile, but it felt like 5 because of all of my layers of clothes and my big boots! By the time I got back with the truck, Jeremy had finally gotten it running. So, we loaded it up and headed to our cousins land to check their feeders and cameras for them.

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (4)
After checking all of that, we stopped to get some lunch and head back to our land to hunt again!

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (5)

It had warmed up a lot, so I didn’t have to wear so many layers.

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (8)

When we got in the blind and I got still, the sleepiness set in!  I literally could not keep my eyes open.  I really thought about laying on the ground!  I took a little nap until the feeder went off.  We sat there for several hours and didn’t see one deer!  Jeremy had decided that he was going to shoot them with his slingshot!

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (10)

Just kidding!  We had a random dog come running through a few times.  So he shot some bb’s at it so it would leave and quit scaring the deer away.

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (9)

We think we didn’t see any deer because the man who has the land that joins ours kept driving up and down the fence!  He does it every year during rifle season and it is so annoying!  He thinks he owns all of the deer!

Rifle Season Is Here - Weekend Recap Run and Live Happy (11)

We stayed until the sun was setting.  So, I saw the sunrise and sunset from a deer blind on Sunday!

After hunting, we went home and watched the AMA’s and ate some scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast for dinner, and we were in bed by 10!

What did you do this weekend?

POTM Week 3 Check in & Weekly Update

Hi Everyone!  How was your week?  Mine flew by!  I feel like I blinked and it was over!  But, even though it was so quick, I have a lot to share and I need to check in with you on my POTM Week 3 progress!  Here’s a recap of what I have been doing all week.

I woke up hungry Monday morning, and I was really craving a donut.   I have really had an annoyingly persistent craving for one the last couple of weeks.  Usually I will give in and eat just one to get it out of my system.  So, I decided that I would just go get one.  When I got to my favorite donut shop they were closed.  I took this as a sign that I really should not have a donut, so I had a Bear Naked bar instead.  Then I ate ground turkey and asparagus for lunch.

I took a rest day on Monday from running or walking.  It was pouring rain all day!  It started Sunday during the night and didn’t let up until sometime Tuesday night. Jake was really bored from having to be inside all day, and he would not leave my side!

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (2)

Monday night I fixed some tomato soup and a grilled cheese for dinner.  It was delicious!

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (12)

So, Sunday night my dryer started making this awful squealing noise!  Then, it started smoking!  Jeremy tried to take some of the clothes out and let it sit and cool down for awhile, but it still made the noise.  At one point it just completely quit running and wouldn’t come back on!  So, a repair man came out on Monday and said that our dryer was finished!  It needed a new motor, and for what that would cost, he could sell us a used one.  So, we decided to get a used one to get us by until we get a new one.  I have been wanting a new washer too, but the repair man looked at it and said nothing was wrong with it.  Boo!  But, at least I will be getting a brand new dryer soon!  I’m excited about that.

When I woke up Tuesday, the sun was finally out.

Pile on the Miles Weekly Update Run and LIve Happy

I had some oatmeal for breakfast, and then ground turkey and asparagus for lunch.  I went for a 3 mile walk, and saw this little guy.

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (4)

I was surprised at how close he let me get.  Then I took Jake for a walk.

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (5)

I had to wear my rain boots and he got covered in mud!

Pile on the Miles Week 3 Update Run and Live Happy

Jeremy had a ball game Tuesday night, but I stayed home.  I spent most of the evening sorting pecans.  I finally got finished with all 77 pounds of them!   And then for dinner I fixed some scrambled eggs and toast with a few slices of avocado.

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (1)

Then I caught up on my DVR shows.  I love the show Married at First Sight.  I think it’s crazy that someone would actually do it, but I’m addicted to reality TV!

On Wednesday, a friend brought me some homemade potato soup for lunch.  It was really good!  Later in the afternoon, I had a really good 3 mile run!

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (14)

I didn’t have any pain while I was running!

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (13)

As soon as I was done I went home and iced my leg.

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (17)

Jake went to get a bath, so I didn’t want to take him out in the mud, so we didn’t go for a walk.  He didn’t mind though.

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (15)

He is usually pretty tired when he gets home from the groomer.  He doesn’t get to take a nap at all when he’s there.  When Jeremy got home, he had 3 more bags of pecans to sort.  52 pounds!  I had forgotten about these and was so excited when I finished the other ones.  I did NOT want to sort these, but they were not in little pieces like the others, so they were much easier.  We worked for a little while on them, and got a whole bunch done quickly!

Jeremy decided he wanted burritos for dinner and went and picked up everything while I was at work.  So, I made chili cheese beef burritos.

Pile on the Miles Week 3 Update and Week Update Run and Live Happy (2)

It was very simple.  I browned some hamburger meat and put taco seasoning in it.  Then I warmed up a can of chili (without beans).  I took two tortillas and filled them with beef and cheese then rolled them up and put them seam side down in a baking dish.  I covered them with chili and cheese and baked them until the cheese melted.  Then, I made some pumpkin bread.  It was a quick bread in a box, but it was good.  I think it would be really good with some cinnamon cream cheese on it!  After dinner, we played with Jake and then we actually went to bed early.

Thursday morning I finally gave in to my craving and had a donut.  I had a glazed croissant and it was amazing!! That got rid of my donut cravings for awhile.  Then, I had ground turkey and asparagus for lunch.

POTM Week 3 Check in and Weekly Update Run and Live Happy (3)

Once I got home from work, I only had 45 minutes to fit in a run and shower.  I did a quick 2 mile run, then showered and was ready to go.  Jeremy and I met up with my dad at the gun range.

Pile on the Miles Week 3 Update and Week Update Run and Live Happy (3)

We needed to check mine and Jeremy’s rifles, since rifle season starts today!  Check out my shots!  I am pretty proud!

Pile on the Miles Week 3 Update and Week Update Run and Live Happy (1)

When we left there, we headed to a basketball game.  I have stayed home all week, so I wanted to go with him since I would have some friends and family there.

After the game, we went home and I ate some cheerios and warmed Jeremy up some leftover burritos for dinner.  I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow!

Friday was pretty uneventful!  I ate the last of my ground turkey and asparagus for lunch.  I got in a quick walk/jog before we left for another ballgame.  My best friend was going to be there, and Jeremy’s refereeing partner’s wife was coming too.  The games were awful, but we had a lot of fun hanging out!

We headed home after the games to get all of our hunting stuff ready!  Rifle season starts today, and I’m ready!  We got up at 4:45 am to get ready to go!  I’m planning on a 3 mile run between hunts today.

Thanksgiving Prep

I am so excited for Thanksgiving next week!  I can’t wait!  I have so much to be thankful for this year.  The biggest thing I am thankful for is my family.  You never know what could happen.  We’ve had some really rough patches with family members being very sick this year, so I’m very thankful that we are all together.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.  I’m not big on Thanksgiving food, but I love having everyone come together.  We do Thanksgiving at my house, and that is probably one of the reasons why I love it so much!  Everyone comes over to eat lunch and spend the day visiting.  My grandma gave me this beautiful centerpiece a couple of years ago for hosting.  She thought it would work for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Jake had to check it out when I got it out this week.

I also enjoy the preparation for the big day just as much.  All of the women divide up the dishes, so I don’t have to cook everything.  (Although, I don’t think I would mind that)  I do the ham, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, hot rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and cherry pie.  We always have so much food!

This past weekend, Jeremy and I went ahead and bought everything we will need.

Thanksgiving Prep New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (1)

Jeremy ordered a smoked ham, so all I will have to do is heat it on Thursday morning.  I think being organized is the biggest part of hosting a holiday!  I plan on spending Wednesday cleaning my house and baking pies.

PicMonkey Collage

I will probably make the green bean casserole on Wednesday too.

I think the more you can get done before, the more it will help you the day of.  It will also free up the oven for other things, and it will give me more time to visit with everyone instead of being in the kitchen all morning.

This year I’m really excited about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  My cousin is dancing with the US Tap Team in the parade.  Watch for them, they are supposed to stop and dance on TV!

What do you do to get ready for Thanksgiving?

Gift Guide for the Outdoorsman

Gift GuideFOr the Outdoorsman

Every year I put a lot of thought into the gifts that I give people.  I want gifts to be something that they enjoy, but also something that they need.  I also try to start early, so I can buy something nice for everyone, and then I’m not broke at Christmas!  With hunting season going on, and with me having so many hunters in my family, I thought I would put together a list of gifts that are perfect for the outdoorsman or outdoorswoman (I would like some of these!) in your life.  I enlisted Jeremy to help me with this.

Simple Ground Turkey Recipe

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (7)

I got a new recipe from a friend last week, and she made it sound so good that I decided to try it myself.  I am all about trying out new recipes, especially easy ones.  This dish is so healthy for you, but it doesn’t taste like it.  The meat is packed full of flavor!

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (8)

You will not believe how super simple this recipe is!  It literally took me less than five minutes to prep it! I am really excited to share it with you!

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (1)

All you need is a pound of ground turkey meat and some kind of seasoning. I used Mrs. Dash southwest chipotle seasoning.

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (2)

Now for the easy part –

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (1)

I dumped the ground turkey into a glass baking dish and covered it with Mrs. Dash.  My friend said to season it well, and once you think you’ve got enough on there, add some more.  I completely covered the top and sides with seasoning.  (The juices from the turkey will wash some of it off.)

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (3)

Then I put it in a 400 degree oven.  My friend said to cook it about 20 minutes, but after 20 minutes mine was still raw.  So I ended up cooking it for 40 minutes, but I checked it every 5 minutes.  I would also scoop out all of the fat.

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (4)

I used a meat thermometer to make sure it was done and then I also cut it in half to double check.   I think next time I may turn the heat up on the oven to decrease the cooking time.

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (5)

Once it is cooked through, it kind of looks like a casserole.  The spices form a crust on the outside of the meat.  The inside is moist and delicious!  One serving of this has only 160 calories.  It also has 22 grams of protein!  (Calculations are based on My Fitness Pal.)

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (6)

To go with my ground turkey, I steamed some asparagus and seasoned them with a little bit of Lawrys seasoning salt.

Easy Ground Turkey Recipe New Blog Post Run and Live Happy (9)

I could not believe how easy and delicious this was!  I always have ground turkey in the freezer, so this will be a quick meal for when I don’t have a lot of time.  One pound of ground turkey made 4 lunches.  I just put each serving in a plastic container with some asparagus and put it in the fridge until I’m ready to eat it!

I hope you will try this, it is delicious!
