I have a new food find that I am so excited about! I found this awesome new southwest chopped salad mix kit at Walmart.
All you had to do was dump it in all in a bowl and toss!
I love when things are so easy! It was low in calories, and it was really, really good!
The mix included a seasoned cheese blend, spicy tortilla strips, and pieces of fried jalapenos which gave it a spicy kick.
The package made two big salads and they were very filling! This is my new favorite salad mix.
In running news, I have now run three times with my new orthotic insoles. The left one is really comfortable, but the right one is causing the sharp pains to come back in my leg. When I ran on Sunday, it hurt, but not bad. So I thought I just needed to adjust the placement of the insole in my shoe. I tried to adjust it for my run on Monday. I got it in there where it felt comfortable when I walked on it, but once I started running, the pain became unbearable. I could not go any further than 3 miles, and that was with a lot of walking limping. It feels like there is something really hard pushing on my arch, like a big rock in my shoe, and it sends pain up through my foot and into my shin. I tried just walking in them, and that hurt just as bad. Tuesday, I tried again to adjust the placement of the insole and went for a walk. It was really painful, so I took Tuesday off and iced my leg and took some ibuprofen. I also massaged my foot and shin and yesterday, it felt a little better. It was back to just being sore. I took the insoles out of my shoes and had a really good run with no sharp pains, and no having to stop and walk! I think I will try for a while to just really pay attention to how I land and see if I can run without the insoles.
My run yesterday was awesome! I have been pretty down lately because of my leg, and I have not been very motivated because I can’t run the miles like I was before I got hurt. Yesterday I was really tired, and I kept coming up with excuses as to why I needed to skip my run. I finally just made myself go, and I was so happy with how I ran. It really helped give me some motivation! I felt so good after I finished too. Usually the days when I don’t want to run are the days when I need it the most and I do the best. I truly believe what is said about it being a mental thing. Once I change my way of thinking and push all of the excuses aside, I do really well.
We also picked up pecans. I wish I could teach Jake out to sniff them out so he could help me find them. That would make it so much easier!
I am really wanting to run a race on Halloween, but I’m afraid to push it and hurt myself again. I am thinking that I may just go do it to have fun and not worry about my time.
In other news from this week, Jake had an ear ache and had to visit the vet.
He loves going to the vet. He gets really excited to ride in the truck, and then he goes nuts when we get there.
They all love him because he is so friendly. Everyone wants to pet him and he loves all the attention.
Once we were in the room, Jake wanted to get up on the table. But, it was too far to jump.
The vet checked his ears to make sure there wasn’t anything stuck down in them, and they were good. He said one of them was pretty red and he wanted to try out a different kind of treatment. Usually this time of year, Jake seems to get ear aches because he is outside more. We have ear drops and a rinse that we use and I keep his ears very clean, but he always gets at least one ear ache a year. So, the vet said that since they weren’t dirty, the rinse and the drops wouldn’t do much except bother him more, so he squeezed a little tube of gel in each ear.
He said that it takes a week to heal and then if they are still bothering him, he will put another dose in and it lasts 45 days. He said while that gel is in his ears, there is no need to rinse them or clean them; the gel takes care of everything. I am hoping that it works because after we got home, he continued to shake his head and paw at his ear all night. He doesn’t act like he feels bad though and he is eating and drinking normally. I just hate it when something is bothering him.
So far, my week has been full of salads, running, and a couple of long walks. I am really going to try to continue to go slow with my running and get back on a schedule like I was before I got hurt. I am hoping that if I don’t push it too hard, and I continue to take it easy I will heal and be okay!
I hope you’re having a good week and enjoying the fall weather!
